looks like you have a low view of Christ🤢🤢 He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.' Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?' And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.' Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.' Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?' He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.' And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." St Ignatius of Antioch, a deciple of the apostle John wrote in 107AD a letter to the Philadelphians "Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. To deny the Eucharist is to turn your back on Jesus. “my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink” and that “if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you” (see verses 6:26 through 6:71). Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” (John 6: 60). After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him (John 6:66)

Jesus says, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Upon hearing these words, many of Jesus’ followers said, “This is a hard teaching” (verse 60), and many of them actually stopped following Him that day (verse 66). Jesus’ graphic imagery about eating His flesh and drinking His blood is indeed puzzling at first. Context will help us understand what He is saying. As we consider everything that Jesus said and did in John 6, the meaning of His words becomes clearer. Earlier in the chapter, Jesus fed the 5,000 (John 6:1-13). The next day, the same multitudes continued to follow Him, seeking another meal. Jesus pointed out their short-sightedness: they were only seeking physical bread, but there was something more important: “Food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you” (verse 27). At this point, Jesus attempts to turn their perspective away from physical sustenance to their true need, which was spiritual. This contrast between physical food and spiritual food sets the stage for Jesus’ statement that we must eat His flesh and drink His blood. Jesus explains that it is not physical bread that the world needs, but spiritual bread. Jesus three times identifies Himself as that spiritual bread (John 6:35, 48, 51). And twice He emphasizes faith (a spiritual action) as the key to salvation: “My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life” (verse 40); and “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life” (verse 47). Jesus then compares and contrasts Himself to the manna that Israel had eaten in the time of Moses: “Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die” (John 6:49-50). Like manna, Jesus came down from heaven; and, like manna, Jesus gives life. Unlike manna, the life Jesus gives lasts for eternity (verse 58). In this way, Jesus is greater than Moses (see Hebrews 3:3). Having established His metaphor (and the fact that He is speaking of faith in Him), Jesus presses the symbolism even further: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh. . . . I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life. . . . My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. . . . Anyone who feeds on me will live because of me” (John 6:51-56, NLT). To prevent being misconstrued, Jesus specifies that He has been speaking metaphorically: “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you-they are full of the Spirit and life” (John 6:63). Those who misunderstood Jesus and were offended by His talk about eating His flesh and drinking His blood were stuck in a physical mindset, ignoring the things of the Spirit. They were concerned with getting another physical meal, so Jesus uses the realm of the physical to teach a vital spiritual truth. Those who couldn’t make the jump from the physical to the spiritual turned their backs on Jesus and walked away (verse 66). At the Last Supper, Jesus gives a similar message and one that complements His words in John 6-when the disciples gather to break bread and drink the cup, they “proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). In fact, Jesus said that the bread broken at the table is His body, and the cup they drink is the new covenant in His blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:26-28). Their act of eating and drinking was to be a symbol of their faith in Christ. Just as physical food gives earthly life, Christ’s sacrifice on the cross gives heavenly life. Some people believe that the bread and wine of communion are somehow transformed into Jesus’ actual flesh and blood, or that Jesus somehow imbues these substances with His real presence. These ideas, called transubstantiation (professed by the Catholic and Orthodox churches) and consubstantiation (held by Lutherans), ignore Jesus’ statement that “the flesh counts for nothing” (John 6:63). The majority of Protestants understand that Jesus was speaking metaphorically about His flesh and blood and hold that the bread and wine are symbolic of the spiritual bond created with Christ through faith. In the wilderness testing, the devil tempts Jesus with bread, and Jesus answers, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4, quoting Deuteronomy 8:3). The implication is that the bread is God’s Word and that is what sustains us. Jesus is called the Word of God who came to earth and was made flesh (John 1:14). The Word of God is also the Bread of Life (John 6:48). The book of Hebrews references the way that God uses the physical things of this earth as a way to help us understand and apply spiritual truth. Hebrews 8:5 says that some tangible things are “a copy and shadow of what is in heaven,” and that chapter explains how the Old Covenant, so concerned with physical rites and ceremonies, was replaced by the New Covenant in which God’s laws are written on our hearts (verse 10; cf. Jeremiah 31:33). Hebrews 9:1-2 says, “The first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place.” According to Hebrews 8:5, the consecrated bread, or the “bread of the Presence,” was a physical representation of a spiritual concept, namely, the actual presence of God being continually with us today. The physical tent of meeting has been replaced by a spiritual temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16), and the physical bread of the Presence has become the spiritual bread that abides within us through the Holy Spirit. When Jesus said we must “eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood” (John 6:53), He spoke, as He often did, in parabolic terms. We must receive Him by faith (John 1:12). “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Matthew 5:6). We understand that we need physical food and drink; Jesus wants us to understand that we also need spiritual food and drink-and that is what His sacrifice provides.

The early church fathers show in their writings that the Eucharist was understood as the literal body, blood , soul and divinity of The Lord. I would assume that if they who learned from the apostles, who learned from our Lord, believed it, than it must be true and Jesus was not speaking metaphorically. If they were mistaken, than I guess that the gates of hell had prevailed against the church. I’m with you and the early church. The Eucharist is the center of the Christian life.

Justin Martyr (150 AD): Justin Martyr would reject transubstantiation because he referred to the unleavened bread as a "remembrance of His being made flesh", not that the bread was the literal body. He also referred to the unleavened juice as "in remembrance of His own blood" not that the juice was the literal blood of Christ: "Now it is evident, that in this prophecy [Isa 33:13-19] to the bread which our Christ gave us to eat, in remembrance of His being made flesh for the sake of His believers, for whom also He suffered; and to the cup which He gave us to drink, in remembrance of His own blood, with giving of thanks." (Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho, ch 70) 2. Irenaeus (180 AD): Irenaeus refutes the Gnostics on the basis that the Lord would not use "evil material things" like bread and juice in the Lord's Supper. Had Irenaeus argued that the bread and juice Transubstantiated (changed) into something different from what they appear, the Gnostics would have agreed, saying this change was essential because Jesus did not have physical flesh either! "Irenaeus has the realist terminology but not the realist thought. There is no conversion of the elements. Indeed, if there were any change in the substance of the elements, his argument that our bodies-in reality, not in appearance-are raised would be subverted." (Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 114) 3. Tertullian (200 AD): Tertullian comes right out and states that the bread is a mere symbol of the body of Christ and specifically refutes the Gnostics on this basis: "Taking bread and distributing it to his disciples he made it his own body by saying, "This is my body," that is a "figure of my body." On the other hand, there would not have been a figure unless there was a true body." (Tertullian, Against Marcion IV. 40) 4. Cyprian (200 AD): Augustine as late at 400 AD, quotes Cyprian as saying that the juice is offered in remembrance as a type and foreshadow of the blood of Christ: ""Observe" he (Cyprian) says, in presenting the cup, to maintain the custom handed down to us from the Lord, and to do nothing that our Lord has not first done for us: so that the cup which is offered in remembrance of Him should be mixed with wine. For, as Christ says, 'I am the true vine,' it follows that the blood of Christ is wine, not water; and the cup cannot appear to contain His blood by which we are redeemed and quickened, if the wine be absent; for by the wine is the blood of Christ typified, that blood which is foreshadowed and proclaimed in all the types and declarations of Scripture." (Augustine, On Christian Doctrine, book 4, ch 21, quoting Cyprian) The same situation prevails in the writings of Tertullian and Cyprian: ... both men when they speak with precision distinguish the symbol from what it represents. The bread was a "figure" of the body. But Tertullian turns the word figura against the Docetism of Marcion (IX.6). The language of symbolism does not help those who deny a real body to Jesus. The bread would not be a figure unless there was first a true body of which it was a figure. There is no shadow without a substance to cast the shadow. Similarly, for Cyprian, literal language about drinking Christ's blood is balanced by language of "remembrance" (X.5) and "representation" (IX.7). Both symbolism and realism are present in the thought of Cyprian and Tertullian. The symbolism concerns bread and wine as signs. (Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 115) 4. Hippolytus (200 AD): Hippolytus speaking of the Lord's Supper as an antitype based upon Prov 9:1: "And she hath furnished her table: "that denotes the promised knowledge of the Holy Trinity; it also refers to His honoured and undefiled body and blood, which day by day are administered and offered sacrificially at the spiritual divine table, as a memorial of that first and ever-memorable table of the spiritual divine supper. (Hippolytus, Fragment from Commentary on Proverbs 9:1) For Hippolytus, too, the bread and wine are the antitypes or likenesses of the reality portrayed. His consecration prayer (VIII.5) contains both the words of institution and petition for the Holy Spirit. But there is no suggestion of a change in the elements. (Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 115)

I was an evangelical Protestant for about ten years. I used to think like Mike Gendron. I am now a Catholic. I understand where Mike is coming from and used to believe the same. Then I came to see I was wrong. Mike is doing what he believes is right. No need to argue about every point. Let me just address his “primacy of scripture” point. The entire early Church didn’t read the Bible like Mike. They read it through four different levels of interpretation: literal; allegorical; tropological; and anagogical. And the early Church, for centuries, didn’t have Bibles. So clearly, the Bible is not the sole authority in the Christian life. How can it be when it didn’t exist as a Bible for centuries? How can it be when everyone can interpret it differently? How can it be when it never claims to be the sole authority? If the Bible is the only authority and it doesn’t say it is the only authority, from whence commeth the theology that it is the sole authority? From heretical men in the Reformation is the answer. And Mike agrees with them. The Church is the authority, based on the scriptures. Christ gave Peter specifically and the apostles more broadly the authority. What they loose and bind and forgive are loosed and bound and forgiven according to Christ, or don’t you believe the scriptures? Peter says that the letters of Paul have many things difficult to understand and that can lead many astray if read without understanding. Does this not warn against the scriptures that they are not so “clear” as Mike says? Does not Mike argue with a great many people over their opinions on the scriptures? Don’t you? Which of you will be the final authority? Don’t you see that allowing everyone to be their own authority on the Bible led to everyone believing they were the sole authority on everything, which has become the idolatry of the individual in our present age. The Protestant step towards everyone reading the Bible for themselves is responsible for everyone who now believes they can claim their own gender for themselves. It also split the Church into many denominations. Return to the Church of the apostles- in whom Jesus left the authority. As Paul says to those who may go astray, “If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). So, Paul says the Church is the authority. Paul says that the scriptures are profitable, good, etc. but at the time, the only scriptures he was talking about were what we call the Old Testament as the New Testament hadn’t been written or compiled BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH yet. But Paul still doesn’t say that the scriptures are “the pillar and foundation of truth”. That authoritative description is what he says of the Church, not the Bible. The “Bible” wouldn’t exist until the Church, with its authority as the pillar of truth, composed the Bible and said, “These too will be called scripture because we, the Church with the authority to say so, call them scriptures.” So, obviously, Protestants are wrong about the Bible. It is the Word of God, but Protestants are not trusting in it alone, but in their own interpretation of it or their pastor’s teachings on it, etc. And others disagree and that’s how we ended up splitting the Church, the Body of Christ, into pieces and denominations. Jesus prayed we would all be one. This can only happen if those who have left the authority of the one, holy, apostolic, and universal Church return to it. I am a Catholic, but I know not to trust in myself for salvation, for any good I do is only through Christ and God’s grace. Mike is misrepresenting what the Catholic Church teaches, and he doesn’t know it. The list of things Mike says Catholic must believe to be saved is not what the Church teaches. Reading the Catechism and watching Catholic Answers would be instructive. Videos by Trent Horn and Jimmy Akin, Bishop Robert Barron and the channel “How to be a Christian” can be helpful. Scott Hahn is another good source for Catholic teachings. Reading the Church Fathers in the early church and seeing that their beliefs in the early Church were Catholic. Come to the Church Christ established. Then you can read John chapter 6 without feeling like you’re one of the ones who walked away from Jesus. Come eat his flesh and drink his blood. Jesus said if you don’t, you won’t have life in you. May all who read this come to have life.

John 6:51 Verse Concepts I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.” John 6:53-57 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. John 13:1-4 Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, Acts 2:42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:46-47 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 20:7 Verse Concepts On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ? Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. 1 Corinthians 10:21-22 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we? 1 Corinthians 11:20-34 Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper, for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk. What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I will not praise you.

The Catholic and Greek Orthodox false doctrine of "transubstantiation" teaches that the bread and juice undergo a change to become the literal body and blood of Christ. "And when Jesus had taken a cup and ***given thanks*** (Catholic transubstantiation happens here), He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for ***this is My blood*** (Orthodox transubstantiation happens here) of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. “But I say to you, I will not drink of this ***fruit of the vine*** (Jesus still called it juice) from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”" (Matthew 26:27-29) 1. Transubstantiation teaches the bread the juice for the Eucharist miraculously changes into the literal flesh and blood of Jesus. 2. Both Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches admit transubstantiation is NOT taught I the Bible, but is based upon human tradition which has its origin with the apostles themselves. 3. Orthodox say the grape juice changes into literal blood at the “prayer of thanksgiving” before the proclamation “this is my body”. 4. Catholics say the grape juice changes into literal blood at the proclamation "this is my body" after the prayer. ONE VERSE REFUTATION #1: If you carefully read Mt 26:27-29 above, you will notice that after Jesus “gave thanks” and proclaimed “this is my blood”, Jesus himself refutes both RC and Orthodox because he then afterwards called it “fruit of the vine” not blood. This utterly collapses and refutes, with no chance for rebuttal of any kind, the false doctrines of the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches. BONUS REFUTION #2: The fact that Orthodox and Catholic BOTH CLAIM their ritual is direct apostolic authority, example and tradition, BUT they practice TWO DIFFERENT THINGS, proves transubstantiation is a human false doctrine invented in the 4th century AD. A. Transubstantiation is a false doctrine for the following reasons: No Bible verse teaches transubstantiation. Supposed proof texts put forward by Roman Catholic and Orthodox advocates are most naturally seen as proving that the bread and juice were symbols of the body and blood. To see transubstantiation in these texts requires one to strain the text as much as our mind. Transubstantiation is a false doctrine because Jesus is not a liar: In Mt 26:29 after Jesus had said, "this is my blood" and prayed, he still referred to the contents as, "fruit of the vine". If transubstantiation of the juice into blood had occurred, as both Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches say it was at this time, then Jesus would never have referred to it as "fruit of the vine' but rather "blood". This proves that when Jesus said "take eat & drink" he LITERALLY gave them bread and juice. In like manner, Paul also refers to the elements of the Lord's Supper as "eat this bread and drink the cup" in 1 Cor 11:26 after they should be transubstantiated. 1 Cor 11:26-27 proves transubstantiation wrong because Paul calls the loaf, "bread" after both Roman Catholics and Orthodox say the "change" was supposed to take place. Catholics make Paul a liar by calling the loaf "bread" rather than what Catholic false doctrine claims it was: Literal Flesh. In 1 Corinthians 11:25, Jesus said literally that the "cup was the covenant". So which is it? Is the it the juice that is the covenant or the juice that is the blood? Is it the cup that is the covenant or is the cup the blood? In 1 Cor 11:26-28, Paul instructs us to "drink the cup" instead of "drink the blood". The Holy Spirit would not use such a figure of speech as "synecdoche" (referring to a part for the whole) if such a literal transubstantiation was actually taking place. To use a symbol when such a literal change is taking place is unthinkable. Transubstantiation is a false doctrine because Jesus instituted Lord's Supper before his blood was shed and body broken! He spoke of His blood being shed, which was still yet future. This proves it was a symbol. The very record of historically, (Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Cyprian and Hippolytus) which the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches love to quote as authority, proves that before 200 AD, the church viewed the bread and juice as symbols. Conversely, the earliest historical hint of transubstantiation was in the 4th century. Obviously Jesus words, "this is my body" should be taken symbolically because it falls within a long list of symbolic statements Christ said: "I am the bread," (John 6:41), "I am the vine," (John 15:5), "I am the door," (John 10:7,9), "I am the good shepherd,"(John 10:11,12), "You are the world the salt, (Matthew 5:13), "You are the light of the world the salt, (Matthew 5:14) The apostasy of withholding the Cup: Roman Catholics, in the 1415 AD Council of Constance, decreed that the laity could no longer drink of the cup, but the bread alone. This is completely contrary to Scripture and the earliest church traditions. Jesus' own words are "drink from it, all of you" Matthew 26:26 and in Mark 14:22-23 it says "He gave it to them, and they all drank from it." The Greek Orthodox church does not withhold the juice. The Greek orthodox church violates the Bible pattern by using leavened bread, whereas Roman Catholics use unleavened bread, just as Jesus did, (Matthew 26:17) and the Bible records in 1 Cor 5:7-8. Both Roman Catholic and Greek orthodox churches violate the Bible pattern by using leavened wine, instead of unleavened grape juice. The Greek orthodox church violates the Bible pattern by using a "communion spoon" to dip into the cup to retrieve some wine-soaked bread. The Bible pattern for the Lord's Supper is that the bread and juice are not combined, but are two separate steps of "Holy communion". We wonder why Roman Catholics and Orthodox doubt God will grant his full grace and love in the symbolic elements of the bread and the juice? Why is it so hard for them to believe that He grants us the full grace of His Body and Blood via symbols? The water of baptism washes away sin: Acts 2:38; 22:16. You don't get your sins forgiven until you are immersed in water! Water is a symbol of the blood that literally removes sin. For Roman Catholics and Orthodox to believe in "real presence", is as logical as the idea that water of baptism turns into literal blood!

Transubstantiation is completely unbiblical, being a doctrine that grew out of the Gnostic controversies of the mid second century and gradually developing to full flower in the 4th century. The Gnostics claimed that Jesus did not have literal flesh and blood, it only appeared that way. The early post-apostolic Christians countered that Jesus indeed had ordinary human flesh and blood and they began to emphasize this in the Lord's Supper. "The early centuries were not exercised with a "moment" of consecration, for they had not become concerned with a conversion in the elements." (Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 114) 2. Orthodox writers misrepresent history, but correctly identify the Lord's Supper as a battle ground between Christians and Gnostics. "In the early Church, the only people who denied that the Eucharist was truly the Body and Blood of Christ were those who also denied that the Word had truly become man." (THE WAY: What Every Protestant Should Know About the Orthodox Church, Clark Carlton, 1997, p 173) 3. The historically accurate way of saying this would be: "In the early Church, before 200AD, both Gnostics and the church took the same symbolic view of the bread and juice. Some Gnostics refused to eat the Lord's Supper altogether. Transubstantiation was not an issue that was discussed. By the fourth century, the church drifted away from the original symbolic view of the Apostles and began to teach transubstantiation. Only in the fourth century, were Gnostics isolated in their symbolic view. But amazingly, they were the ones who maintained the Apostolic traditional view. It was the church that had changed her theology towards transubstantiation." 4. Some Gnostics groups refused to break bread altogether. The only churches today that do not break bread at all, like the Gnostics, are groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Salvation Army. But even still, the 2nd century Gnostics and the church both viewed the elements of the Lord's Supper as symbolic. Transubstantiation was never the issue at this time. 5. But those Gnostics who did partake of the Table of the Lord, were openly criticized by the church as being inconsistent. "How can they (Gnostics) be consistent with, themselves when they say the bread for which they give thanks is the body of their Lord and the cup his blood, if they do not say he is the Son of the Creator of the world? ... Let them either change their views or avoid offering the bread and wine. But our view is in harmony with the eucharist, and the eucharist confirms our view". (Irenaeus, Against Heresies IV.xviii.4, 5) 6. Amazingly the language of the Gnostics was the same literalistic language used by the church: "they say the bread for which they give thanks is the body of their Lord and the cup his blood". (Irenaeus, Against Heresies IV.xviii.4, 5) 7. In truth, however, this literalistic language was typical of how everyone talked on all sides of the debate before 200AD. But we want to note that the Orthodox statement is quite wrong when they say the Gnostics distinguished between transubstantiation and the symbolic view, for they in fact used the same identical literalistic language as the church. For Roman Catholic and Orthodox historians to be consistent, they would need to admit, that if the literalistic language of "this is my body" proves transubstantiation, then they are forced to admit that the Gnostics at the time of Irenaeus in 180 AD, also believed in transubstantiation. Of course the truth is that both the church and Gnostics taught the symbolic view, while employing the same literalistic language. 8. In fact, the logic employed by early church leaders like Irenaeus to defeat Gnosticism, were specifically based upon a symbolic, non-transubstantiation view of communion. In other words, Irenaeus' whole argument would have been defeated, if he believed in Transubstantiation. The very logic of Irenaeus' argument is that the Lord's supper is composed of natural elements of common juice and bread. "He (the Gnostic) acknowledged the created cup with which he moistens our blood as his own blood, and he confirmed the created bread from which our bodies grow as his own body. Since therefore the cup that has been mixed and the bread that has been made, from which things the substance of our flesh grows and is sustained, receive the word of God and the eucharist becomes the body of Christ, how do they say that the flesh which is nourished from the body and blood of the Lord and is a member of him is incapable of receiving the gift of God which is eternal life?" (Irenaeus, Against Heresies V.ii.2, 3) 9. The Gnostics viewed everything physical as evil. Had Irenaeus argued that the natural elements of common juice and bread were transubstantiated into something different than what they appear, namely the body and blood of Christ, the Gnostics would have agreed completely, while maintaining their view that the body of Christ was not composed of natural elements, but only appeared to be. Had Irenaeus been arguing transubstantiation, the Gnostics would have countered, "We agree and it proves Jesus did not have literal flesh and blood. Just as you (Irenaeus) have argued that the bread and juice must be transubstantiated into something that is undetectable to our senses, we argue that the reason it is undetectable to our senses, is because the literal body and blood of Christ on the cross, like the bread and juice, were not what they appear! 10. "Irenaeus has the realist terminology but not the realist thought. There is no conversion of the elements. Indeed, if there were any change in the substance of the elements, his argument that our bodies -in reality, not in appearance- are raised would be subverted." (Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 114) 11. So it was critical that Irenaeus specifically avoid the doctrine of transubstantiation in his recorded argument against the Gnostics. 12. The way the church refuted the Gnostics was based upon the symbolic view. As late as 200 AD, Tertullian bases the reality of Christ's body on the cross, upon the fact that the bread is symbolic: 13. "Taking bread and distributing it to his disciples he made it his own body by saying, "This is my body," that is a "figure of my body." On the other hand, there would not have been a figure unless there was a true body." (Tertullian, Against Marcion IV. 40) 14. This is the kind of historical information that Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches keep from their people. Both the early church and the Gnostics rejected transubstantiation and took the symbolic view.

Roman Catholics and Orthodox misrepresent the historical development of Transubstantiation, since its invention was no sooner than the third century. After all, Transubstantiation only became official Catholic doctrine in 1215 AD, with Pope Innocent III, in the Fourth Lateran Council. So before 200 AD, when writers said that the unleavened grape juice and bread were the body and blood of Christ, they were merely borrowing the words of Christ: "This is my body" etc. It is clear, however, that the church understood this in the symbolic sense, not in the later false doctrine of Transubstantiation. Here are the historical records that are usually never quoted by Roman Catholic and Orthodox writers because they know it destroys their case. 1.

The devil wanted to get the church to go into apostasy. So he started with the Gnostics who argued Jesus only appeared to have literal flesh and blood, but in fact he did not. After 200 years of anti-Gnostic battling, the church, finally adopted a remarkably similar view! Transubstantiation teaches that, although the elements of the Lord's Supper appear to be literal grape juice and bread, they are not what they appear. They are in fact different than what the 5 human senses tell us they really are: the literal blood and flesh of Christ. Our senses are deceiving us! At first (100-200 AD) the church merely began to emphasize to the Gnostics, that the symbols of the Lord's Supper were based upon a literal flesh of Christ. In time, however, between 225 and 300 AD, the church began to counter the Gnostic theology in a new way. Whereas before, they had argued that the symbols of the bread and juice must be based upon a literal body, they suddenly began to emphasizing the literalistic language Jesus: "this is my body" against the Gnostics. Although this new line of reasoning that began no sooner than 225 AD, was successful, it required an abandonment of the orthodox arguments used the century before, which were all directly based upon the symbolic view. But now the Devil had succeeded in getting the church to use one false doctrine (Transubstantiation) to defeat another: Gnosticism. Refuting one false doctrine with another is quite common in theological debates and the reader needs to be aware of this. For example, Seventh-day Adventists convert all kinds of Catholics to Saturday worship because Catholics mistakenly call Sunday the Sabbath. The Adventist correctly points out that the 7th day Sabbath is Saturday, but completely overlooks the fact that the Sabbath law itself was abolished. Thus Adventist false doctrine merely converts the Catholic from one false doctrine to another. In like manner, the church between 225 - 300 AD defeated the Gnostic false doctrine with the false doctrine of Transubstantiation. E. Transubstantiation is a close cousin to Gnosticism: While the Gnostics claimed the literal body and blood of Jesus Christ on the cross was different than what it appeared to be, so too the church began to claim that the bread and juice were not what they appeared to be. Transubstantiation, therefore, is a close cousin to Gnostic theology because both false doctrines claim that "things are not what they appear". F. The case of transubstantiation proves that the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches reliance on "church tradition" is invalid: When the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches teach the false doctrine of transubstantiation, they are teaching something quite "unorthodox and uncatholic". Christ, the apostolic tradition and the early church up to 200 AD universally taught the symbolic view. But even if we accept their claim that transubstantiation is the view that church tradition verifies, we ask, "Then why do you disagree with each other?" Remember, communion is a most basic and fundamental ordinance. In fact, since the earliest Christians gathered together for the express purpose of "breaking bread" (Acts 20:7) it obviously proves transubstantiation a non-biblical doctrine, because had it been taught by the apostles, the fourth century fight over the liturgy of the Lord's Supper would never have occurred. "No consideration of the nature of consecration or the precise moment when it was effected appears in the early sources. In the fourth century, however, the idea of a conversion of the elements finds expression. When that occurred, it became important to define the moment of the change." (Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 107) The western church (which later developed into the Roman Catholic church, headed out of Rome) believed the precise moment the unleavened juice and bread changed literally (transubstantiated) into the blood and body of Christ, was when the words "This is my body ... This is my blood" were spoken. The eastern church (which later developed into the Orthodox church headed out of Constantinople) believed the precise moment the unleavened juice and bread changed literally (transubstantiated) into the blood and body of Christ, was in the prayer of thanksgiving. Obviously then, "church tradition" does not lead to unity because the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches are irrevocably and bitterly divided over the Eucharist. Using the scriptures alone is the only way to settle all doctrinal matters. The Catholic and Orthodox churches are not in "communion" with each other because they have huge differences over the "Eucharist". Christians use this as proof that "church tradition" is an invalid way to determine truth because both claim their different practices are based upon a traditions that date back to the Apostles.

Transubstantiation is as much an assault against scripture and the earliest apostolic traditions of the church, as it is an assault on reality and common sense. It is not taught in scripture, the language of the church up to 200 AD unequivocally rejects transubstantiation. They not only taught the symbolic view, they defeated the Gnostics on the basis of the symbolic view. Transubstantiation is an assault on reality because "if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, smells like a duck and tastes like a duck", it must be unleavened bread and grape juice! Transubstantiation also illustrates a classic case of failure of church tradition to be a standard bearer of doctrinal unity and divine truth. The Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches are bitterly divided to this very day over the Eucharist, both claiming their own "church tradition" is the correct one. (My don't they sound rather Protestant they way each one says they have the right tradition!) While Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches rely on "manmade tradition", Protestants rely upon their various human creeds. Of course true Christians rely upon what the Bible says alone, to the exclusion of all tradition and all human creeds. Sola Scriptura leads us to the symbolic view, which is in keeping with Christ and the earliest post-apostolic tradition. Transubstantiation is a false doctrine because: Mt 26:28 proves transubstantiation wrong because Jesus calls the cup "fruit of the vine" after both Roman Catholics and Orthodox say the "change" was supposed to take place. Catholics make Jesus a liar by calling the cup "fruit of the vine" rather than what Catholic false doctrine claims it was: Literal Blood. Tertullian clearly rejects the idea of "real presence" and had never heard of transubstantiation since he taught the true symbolic view of the bread and juice, just as Jesus and Paul taught! By Steve Rudd The following From: Early Christians Speak, Everett Ferguson, 1981, p 107 The Language of the Real Presence About the Lord's Supper: "This is my body" Some New Testament Texts: Mark 14:22 and parallels; John 6:35-65; 1 Corinthians 10:16; 1 Timothy 4:4. SOURCES IGNATIUS: [The Docetists] avoid the eucharist and prayer because they do not confess the eucharist to be the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ which suffered for our sins and which the Father in his goodness resurrected. (Smyrnaeans 7) 1 will make plain to you the dispensation in the new man Jesus Christ, by his faith, his love, by his passion and resurrection. Especially will I do so if the Lord should show me that all of you, to a man, come together in the common assembly in grace from his name in one faith and in Jesus Christ, "who was of the family of David according to the flesh," son of man and son of God. The intention is that you obey the bishop and presbytery with undisturbed mind, breaking the one bread, which is the medicine of immortality, the antidote in order that we should not die but live forever in Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 20) JUSTIN: And this food is called by us eucharist. It is not lawful for any other one to partake of it than the one who believes the things which have been taught by us to be true, and was washed with the washing for the remission of sins and for regeneration, and lives in the manner Christ taught. We receive these elements not as common bread and common drink. In the same manner as our Savior Jesus Christ was made flesh through the word of God and had flesh and blood for our salvation, even so we were taught that the food for which thanks have been given through the prayer of the word that is from him and from which our blood and flesh are nourished according to the bodily processes is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh. For the apostles in their memoirs, which are called Gospels, delivered what was commanded them, that Jesus took bread, gave thanks and said: "Do this for my memorial; this is my body." Likewise taking the cup IX. and giving thanks, he said: "This is my blood." And he gave it to them alone. (Apology I, 66) IRENAEUS: How can they (Gnostics) be consistent with, themselves when they say the bread for which they give thanks is the body of their Lord and the cup his blood, if they do not say he is the Son of the Creator of the world? . . . How can they say that the flesh which is nourished from the body of the Lord and from his flesh comes to corruption and does not partake of life? Let them either change their views or avoid offering the bread and wine. But our view is in harmony with the eucharist, and the eucharist confirms our view. We offer to God his own things, proclaiming rightly the communion and unity of flesh and spirit. For as bread from the earth when it receives the invocation of God is no longer common bread but the eucharist, consisting of two things-one earthly and one heavenly-so also our bodies when they partake of the eucharist are no longer corruptible but have the hope of the resurrection to eternity. (Against Heresies IV.xviii.4, 5) But if the flesh is not saved, neither did the Lord redeem us with his blood nor is the cup of the eucharist a participation in his blood nor the bread which we break a participation in his body. . . . He acknowledged the created cup with which he moistens our blood as his own blood, and he confirmed the created bread from which our bodies grow as his own body. Since therefore the cup that has been mixed and the bread that has been made, from which things the substance of our flesh grows and is sustained, receive the word of God and the eucharist becomes the body of Christ, how do they say that the flesh which is nourished from the body and blood of the Lord and is a member of him is incapable of receiving the gift of God which is eternal life? (Against Heresies V.ii.2, 3) TERTULLIAN: Taking bread and distributing it to his disciples he made it his own body by saying, "This is my body," that is a "figure of my body." On the other hand, there would not have been a figure unless there was a true body. (Against Marcion IV.40) CYPRIAN: The cup which is offered in commemoration of him is offered mixed with wine. When Christ says, "I am the true vine," the blood of Christ is certainly not water but wine. Neither is it possible to see that his blood by which we are redeemed and made alive is in the cup when there is absent from the cup the wine by which the blood of Christ is shown forth. (Epistle 62 [631 :2) CYRIL OF JERUSALEM: The bread and the wine of the eucharist before the holy invocation of the worshipful Trinity was simple bread and wine, but when the invocation is done, the bread becomes the body of Christ and wine the blood of Christ. (Lectures on the Mysteries i.7 [= Catechetical Lectures XIX:7] ) For in the type of the bread there is given to you the body, and in the type of the wine there is given to you the blood, in order that you may become by partaking of the body and blood of Christ the same body and blood with him. For even so we become bearers of Christ since his body and blood are distributed in our members. (Ibid. iv. 3 [=XXII:3] ) We beseech the loving God to send forth the Holy Spirit upon what is offered in order that he may make the bread the body of Christ and the wine the blood of Christ. For whatever the Holy Spirit touches he sanctifies and changes. (Ibid. v.7 [=XXIII:7] ) GREGORY OF NYSSA: He disseminates himself through that flesh whose substance comes from bread and wine in every one who believes in the economy of grace, blending himself with the bodies of believers, as if by this union with what is immortal, man too may become a partaker in incorruption. He gives these things by the power of the benediction through which he transelements the natural quality of these visible things to that immortal thing. (Catechetical Oration 37) AMBROSE: But this bread is bread before the words of the sacraments. When consecration has been added, from bread it becomes the body of Christ. Let us, therefore, prove this. How is it possible for that which is bread to be the body of Christ? By consecration. In whose words then is the consecration? Those of the Lord Jesus. [The next chapter quotes the words of the last supper as repeated by the priest, and the explanation concludes:] Before the words of Christ the cup is full of wine and water. When the words of Christ have operated, then is made the blood which redeems the people. (On the Sacraments IV.iv.14-v.23)

Many of us Catholics are now wise to the mis-truths and slight-of-hand proof-texts of Protestantism. We know the history of Judaism out of which the mass and traditions grew. We know the early history of the church. We’ve read the church fathers, and we know that Catholicism was born long before Constantine came along. Finally, we know that protestants owe the codex of books in the Holy Bible to the Catholic Church. We also know that you’ve discarded 7 books from that Bible in order to fit God’s Word into your private interpretations. In 2023 we are more equipped to counter you than ever…and we are succeeding.

And Christians all know that the Bible is everything and more of importance regarding faith, practice, conduct and discipline for a believer, and that it alone is divine in nature and contains all of the answers required for the believer to live as a Christian and flourish in life and how to attain salvation. It even taught us that false churches like the Catholic church would rise up and deceive. Success may be yours on earth, but the body of Christ is comprised of believers who are justified by faith alone; no works, no sacraments and no input to salvation. And, that is exactly what separates you Catholics from Christians. We know we are saved, how we are saved, and that we are preserved by the power of God to the end. Mark 7:5-14 5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live [according to the tradition of the elders] instead of eating their food with defiled hands?” 6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; [their teachings are merely human rules].’ 8 [You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions].” 9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)- 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.” And the terrible thing about this scripture is that it runs perfectly in parallel with the ancient traditions of the RCC that one cannot differentiate between whom was spoken in this scripture and the RCC itself. Christ died for you, not a church, and no church is worth your soul but Christ who paid the ransom of yours. Repent.

@@markmeyer4532, Slow down and start with one thing at a time. It’s common for Protestants to make a comment and throw a ton of things at Catholics all at once. So let’s start with the 1st. The Catholic Church teaches a works based Salvation. Really??? Council of Trent Canon 1: If anyone says that man can be justified before God by his own works, whether done by his own natural powers or through the teaching of the law, without divine grace through Jesus Christ, let him be anathema. Council of Trent Canon 7: We are said to be justified by faith because faith is the beginning of human salvation, the foundation and root of all justification, without which it is impossible to please God and to come to the fellowship of His sons; we are said to be justified gratuitously because none of those things that precede justification, whether faith or works, merit the grace of justification. For, if by grace, it is not now by works, otherwise, as the Apostle says, grace is no more grace. It sure doesn’t sound like the Catholic Church is teaching a works based Salvation. Oh yeah, we don’t, because Mike Gendron is lying to you. The above is official Church teaching. What Protestant can’t seem to understand, is that when Paul is talking about works, he isn’t talking about good works, he’s literally talking about the works of the law, which is the Mosaic Law. Paul is telling this to the Jewish converts. As Christians, we do not follow the Mosaic Law. The works of the law, and the works that Paul states that we are judged by, are two different kinds of works.

If I weren't Catholic, I'd look for the Church that the world despises, for the world despised Jesus, and he would be there. - Fulton Sheen😘😘 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.". Things seemed to be going pretty well. That is until Jesus said “For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood,dwelleth in me, and I in him.” This was too much for many of his disciples and “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” Jesus turns to the 12 and asks, “Will ye also go away? Vs 61, Jesus did not back down, for He said, "Does this offend you?" it offends protestants. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Jn 20:21, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." Jn 17:18, "Even as thou hast sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world." Jn 17:22-23, "And the glory that thou hast given Me, I have given to Matt. 28, 18-20: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye, therefore. and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Jesus says to the crowd, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved." But in reference to the same people, Jesus immediately follows with "He who does not believe will be condemned." This demonstrates that one can be baptized and still not be a believer. This disproves the Protestant argument that one must be a believer to be baptized. There is nothing in the Bible about a "believer's baptism." "Accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior," or "Ask Jesus into your heart" isn't the biblical answer. It’s important to be saved from hell, damnation, and the stain of original sin, but what are we saved for? We are saved for union with Christ. Our salvation began when we were born again through baptism and God’s own Divine Life was restored in our souls, making us like Adam and Eve were in the Garden before the Original (first) Sin. As we go through life, we are united with Christ through the Sacraments he left as gifts for us, especially through Penance (forgiveness of our sins committed since Baptism) and the Eucharist (partaking of God’s own Life, His own Divine Nature, 2 Peter 1:4) - until that day when we are truly united with Him in heaven. Scripture teaches that one’s final salvation depends on the state of the soul at death. As Jesus himself tells us, "He who endures to the end will be saved" (Matt. 24:13; cf. 25:31-46). One who dies in the state of friendship with God (the state of grace) will go to heaven. The one who dies in a state of rebellion against God (the state of mortal sin) will go to hell. (For the teaching on venial (non-deadly) and mortal (deadly) sins, see 1 John 5:16-17) What I must do to be saved: *I must be baptized with water and the Spirit. Mark 16:16, John 3:3-5, Titus 3:5, I Peter 3:20-21. (Exceptions: [1] If I desire Baptism but die before I can be baptized with water and the Spirit, God accepts my desire to be baptized, and [2] If I am killed (martyred) because of my faith, but I have not had the opportunity to be baptized, God accepts my death as my baptism, called the Baptism of Blood). * I must do the will of God the Father. Matthew 7:21 * I must keep the Commandments of God. Matthew 5:19-20, Matthew 7:21, Matthew 19:17, 1 Timothy 6:14, and others. * I must accept the Cross (suffering). Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24-25, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27. Phil 1:29, and others. * I must be a member of God's true church. Acts 2:46-47. * I must confess my sins. James 5:16, I John 1:9, John 20:19-23 * I must heed the words of St. Peter, the first Pope. Acts 11:13-14, Acts 15:7. * I must eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus Christ. John 6:51-58, I Corinthians 10:16-17, 11:23-30. * I must do unto others as I would have them do unto me and love my neighbor as myself. I must feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the sick and those in prison or give other aid to those in need. Luke 10:33 ff, Mt 25:31-46. "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God" Hebrews 13:16. Good works don’t save us, but we will be judged by them. *I must strive to be holy. "Strive for peace with everyone and for that holiness without which no one will see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14 *I must endure (persevere) to the end. Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:13, Mark 13:13. And ... ? What else must I do? Catechism #432 The name "Jesus" signifies that the very name of God is present in the person of his Son, made man for the universal and definitive redemption from sins. It is the divine name that alone brings salvation, and henceforth all can invoke his name, for Jesus united himself to all men through his Incarnation, so that "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

1. John 6:29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” John 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you-they are full of the Spirit and life. Educate yourself some more. Christ is using strong language (As he frequently does) to teach an important lesson; but, He follows through by affirming that the words He speaks are SPIRITUAL and not of physical or material matter; least of all of actual skin and blood; otherwise the disciples would have eaten Him alive and as we know we are not to consume consume anything that is bloody and, all would be condemned because He is no longer among us and cannot consume any part of His body. In addition, this completely obliterates the eucharist as nothing more than an idol. Simple. 2. Actually, believing in Christ and/ or accepting Him as your Savior IS the biblical answer. John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10, Acts 10:43, 1 John 5:13, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:28, John 6:40. In addition, you are, like most Catholics, misunderstanding the difference between faith and works and this always extends to the understanding of baptism. Not only that unfortunately, but you are misunderstanding that the lesson is teaching that if one is a believer, they will be baptized; not that must or cannot but they will desire to do so; to express their faith, as Paul says to go out and baptize. If baptism was essential to salvation, Paul would have made that evident and clear. We are not baptized by water which was in accordance with the Law but by the Spirit. You need to start reading scripture as a desiring Christian and not a Catholic which teaches you how to understand scripture which lead you to a false gospel and not the truth of Gods Word. 1 Corinthians 12:13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body-whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Acts 10:47 47 Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. Mark 16:16 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Scripture makes it clear that baptism is not a requirement of salvation but an expression; but it is faith that saves, not any work, as all works that are true are by the act of Living Faith. In fact, James explains this in detail when he makes reference to Abraham and how he was vindicated by his works but JUSTIFIED by his faith. To explain: Abraham was vindicated by his works, by Living faith; not by what he said or claimed but what he did which was his expression of his faith. Living faith is active faith; it does not say and then not do but does exactly what it says it will do. Many people will say things of faith, but actions that do not follow that profession of faith is evidence of a dead faith, for if someone has living faith then their works, their profession of faith with vindicate, prove the life of their faith. Read Romans: Romans 4:1-5 What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but [not before God]. For what does the Scripture say? “[Abraham believed God], and it was [counted to him as righteousness].” Now to the one who works, his wages are [not counted as a gift] but as his due. And to the one who [does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness]. And this is the lesson that applies with baptism: It is faith that saves, but it is the works that prove the life or death of the faith but, the works are not essential as scripture makes it clear. Not everyone will do works, and not everyone can. But, everyone can believe. Salvation does NOT require any input or have any dependence on works. 3. a. Now you are injecting Catholic doctrine into Gods revealed Word. No where in all of scripture is the requirement to be saved and justified described as anything other than faith in Christ. You see, as a Catholic, you DO NOT KNOW if you are saved; if you have merited enough to be justified. But as Christians, we can and DO know that we are saved; and though faith and faith alone. b. We are saved because we believe in/ have faith in/ follow/ commit our life to/ trust in and/ or build our identity on Christ. Any or either is sufficient. We are, as I have clearly demonstrated, saved through faith and in faith alone. c. Christ did not leave us sacraments. He left and the Holy Spirit became our comforter; the one who consecrates us and preserves us. We repent of our sin, follow Christ and we are then justified and become saved and, the Holy Spirit goes to work within us consecrating our soul who preserves us by His power. This is perfectly explained and clear in scripture. d. God does not differentiate between sins as all sin is mortal without exemption. All sin leads to death regardless of severity: Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." See also Eph 2:8-9. e. What you do not know or have a clear estimation upon is the power of God and that those that are saved will not lose their salvation; not because they chose to leave it behind but because the Holy Spirit preserves them to the end. John 6:39. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. You are saved by faith, by grace and by Christ ALONE. 01. The first importance. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. 1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 02. The promise of salvation. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 03. The acquisition of salvation. Romans 10:9-10. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 04. The imputing of righteousness. 2 Cor 5:21. For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 05. Receiving the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38. And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 06. The remission of sin. Acts 10:43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. 07. The assurance of eternal life. 1 John 5:13. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 08. Eternal freedom from sin, condemnation and death. Romans 8:1-4. 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 09. Grace through faith. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift from God, so that no one can boast. 10. God's approval of us. Romans 3:28. 28 We conclude that a person has God’s approval by faith, not by his own efforts. 11. The Will of God. John 6:40 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and [believes in him] shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. Notice that it says nothing of anything other than justification through faith alone. If salvation did have a dependence on works, it would have been made evident. Again and again, like the beating of a drum, if there was a dependence on works for salvation then it would be evident. 12. By Faith and Not Works. Titus 3:5 5 He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, No water baptism. No sacrifice of the mass. No indulgences. No transubstantiation. No immaculate Conception of Mary. No good works. No eucharist. Regarding what you said about the catechism (which is not a divine revelation but a written word of man), you have Mary who is ALSO savior in your Catholic religion.

You don't "gain" Heaven by giving to the poor. That is salvation by works-a false teaching. @@vanillacreem816James 2:14-26; faith without works is dead. This is the reason Luther wanted to remove the book of James from the Bible. He added the word alone to Romans 3:28. When questioned about adding the word, alone. He stated, “ Dr. Martin Luther will have it so, and says that a papist and an ass are the same thing.” Basically, he took his addition the word as Gospel, putting this above what was actually written. I’m not Catholic, but I have done extensive research. I concur that Luther was in serious error, and misguided. He pointed out some egregious acts taking place, and the church has admitted to these things. However, he has created a disastrous situation that continues to this day. How many denominations are there? You have Calvinist that don’t agree on salvation Arminian. The list of different denominations that don’t agree on everything. Is that a unified body that Jesus spoke about? Though there are many Protestants that earnestly want to convert Catholics. Many speak about what they really don’t know or fully understand. John 19 v 26/27. Catholics believe when Jesus said to John ' son behold thy Mother' immediately Mary became our spiritual mother. Another reason Catholics have such a devotion to Mary. What do you Mick believe Jesus meant?
@robertdelisle7309

Being that Jesus was a good son to his mother, he needed to make arrangements for her care after he had left the world. Jesus’ half brother James was an unbeliever at this time as was Jude/Judas ( both later wrote epistles in our new testament.) John was the only Apostle who didn’t abandon Jesus and he was there at the foot of the cross. So Jesus had John take care of his mother going forward. It’s simple as that. Extrapolating a universal motherhood of Mary to all believers should not be arrived at because Jesus didn’t make that point. It is going beyond what the scriptures say.

Jesus started One Church in Matt 16:18, the pillar and foundation of truth, 1 Tim 3:15, and the Final Authority, Matt 18:15-17. In 107AD, St Ignatius of Antioch, a bishop in Jesus’s Church, wrote a letter calling his Church “Catholic” meaning Universal. Protestant churches came along from 1517 and after. All man made. Catholic bishops today can trace their Office back 2,000 years in an unbroken line to one of the Apostles. There was no Bible until the late 4th century when the Pope and bishops gathered at the Council of Rome in 382AD and Authoritatively decided the 27 books of the New Testament from over 200 books being used and debated. "All sin is mortal." Someone needs to tell John, because he sure seemed to think there was some sin that wasn't mortal: 1 John 5:17 "All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death."
@geordiewishart1683
@geordiewishart1683 Жыл бұрын
What does 1 John 5:17 mean? In his final comments on sin leading to death, John clarifies that all disobedience is sin. Though sin is the ultimate cause of all death (Romans 5:12), not every act of disobedience results in immediate demise. Then again, some sins a person commits with their body or spirit can be fatal: a "sin that leads to death." However, John is also clear that all sin is wrong. His intent here is to make a distinction regarding how a believer should pray for other people, not about whether something is considered sinful or not. Though a difficult topic to interpret, the concept of "sin leading to death" is an important one. There is a relationship between our sinful actions and physical consequences, even for believers. Eternal life comes to those who believe in Jesus Christ, and no sin can take that salvation away. However, God has designed a world of cause and effect, and our choices still impact our lives. A believer can pray, ask forgiveness, and receive restored fellowship with God, but this does not necessarily remove the consequences of sinful actions.

What Protestants don't get: There was an existing, functioning and authoritative Church before a single word of the New Testament was written. What's more, Jesus never wrote anything down and never told anyone else to write anything down. Prior to his acending into Heaven, Jesus bestowed his authority to the church he founded. He didn't bestow his authority to book!!!!!! Because Jesus had the wisdom to understand that a book could be misinterpreted with each individual deciding what the Bible is saying based on his own interpretation and that has certainly been the result of the existence of Protestanism. Many of the doctrines of the Catholic Church became official as the result of Church Councils with all the Bishops deciding together. Protestants on the other hand use the Bible as an excuse to rebel against the true church Christ founded. So that every Protestants with a Bible thinks he's his own Pope and hence we have thousands of Denominations. I follow the guidance and teachings of the Church that existed before the New Testament was even written!t

I do not say that he should pray about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death." First of all, we all start out unsaved....dead because of our sins. All sins, big or small, keeps us from obtaining our own salvation...for the wages of sin is death. Thus everyone needs the perfect atonement sacrifice of Christ...no one comes to the Father without going through Christ. The perfect love of the Father also results in the perfect requirement that our sins be fully paid for....either by Jesus....or by us in eternal hell. Either saved from the wrath of God through the atonement of Christ, or being unsaved and thus having the pay personally for our sins eternally. Second, I think this section of verse is comparing a saved person who is still committing a sin (does not lead to death) vs an unsaved person (leading to death). The sin leading to death is rejecting Jesus....rejecting the Gospel....rejecting God....thinking that a person can be "good enough" to merit Heaven. The very idea that some sins are "venial" and thus are ok compared to "mortal" is just made-up theology. A person can live a very clean life, but if they don't accept Christ, then they are not saved.

The one that prays for the brother sinning a sin not leading to death is the one whom God gives life. For instance, you are the one praying for such a brother. So, God gives you life for him. How? In the form of word. His word is life. It can be word of correction for the brother. The brother is a person who hasn't resisted correction when he is corrected. He is someone who is willing to repent whenever light exposes any form of sin in him. So, his sin is not leading to death coz he hadn't resisted the light whenever light comes. Sin leading to death is a sin that you do wilfully. The sins mentioned in 1st John that are associated with death are- the sin of saying that Jesus is not the Christ, To say that Jesus Christ didn't come in the flesh, To not love his brother (1Jn.3:14). As long as a person remains open to the corrections, he may be like the brother who sins not unto death. The heart that is unwilling to repent is someone who sins a sin leading to death. Don't pray for such- meaning- I am not saying that you pray to God to give you word for such a person. Shake the dust off your feet and go to others that need your help.

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? To understand this scripture, we must remember the context. John was witnessing a vision while he was "in the Spirit" (Revelation 4:2). Under inspiration he was seeing future events depicted in symbolism. The fifth seal is figurative of the Great Tribulation, a time of world turmoil preceding Christ's return. In this vision, John sees under the altar the martyred believers who sacrificed their lives for their faith in God. These souls figuratively cry out, "Avenge our blood!" This can be compared to Abel's blood metaphorically crying out to God from the ground (Genesis 4:10). Though neither dead souls nor blood can actually speak, these phrases figuratively demonstrate that a God of justice will not forget the evil deeds of mankind perpetrated against His righteous followers. This verse does not describe living souls that have gone to heaven. The Bible confirms that "no one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven [Jesus Christ]" (John 3:13). Even righteous King David, a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22), was described by Peter as being "dead and buried" (Acts 2:29), not alive in heaven or some other state or location (verse 34). The description of souls "under the altar" is obviously symbolic. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Paul makes it clear that deceased Christians remain in the grave until Christ returns. When we allow the Bible to interpret itself, Revelation 6:9 cannot mean that anyone is in heaven now. Rather, it is both a prophecy that martyrdom would occur and that it would continue until the second coming of Christ.

Regarding John chapter 6 Jesus being the bread of life. Jesus begins the discourse on him being the bread of life with this when asked what must we do to do the works God requires? Jesus replies,“ The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.“ (The work is faith, it is not eating his flesh under the guise of bread) Jesus then says, “ I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.“ “ I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.” The Jews are then upset by this because they understand Jesus’ words to be literal. Jesus ends the discourse by clarifying that what he has been saying is spiritual. “ The spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.“ The discourse begins with pleasing God with faith rather than a work to be done and ends with the spiritual giving life as opposed to the physical. Therefore, we have life by putting our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and through that faith we receive the nourishment of our souls. Just as bread gives life to the body, so the Bread of Life, Jesus, gives life to our souls.

@@robertdelisle7309 Hi.... You wrote: "....The Jews are then upset by this because they understand Jesus’ words to be literal. Jesus ends the discourse by clarifying that WHAT HE WAS SAYING IS SPIRITUAL. “ The spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.“ .. I believe that this interpretation (i.e., eucharistic discourse being only 'spiritual' or symbolic), is awkward. Jesus spoke and wanted to be understood in the LITERAL sense. And his disciples, who were Jews, understood Him well that was why they felt offended. I read that the word used by Jesus when he said "eat" was the Greek for 'gnaw' or 'chew'. So the message was truly literal. And Jesus did not clarify, as you suggested. That was why in John 6:66, many of His disciples turned away. If Jesus was talking only in a spiritual or figurative sense, why would the disciples turn their back on Him and never followed Him anymore? Notably, Jesus did not hold them back, and even asked the Apostles if they, too, would leave Him? When Jesus said the 'flesh counts for nothing', He obviously meant pure human power or understanding, which is indeed worthless as against the power of the Spirit. If the 'flesh' meant nothing, then, it s as if you are saying that Jesus 'flesh' counts for nothing. It is indeed, awkward. No, it is absurd. So the CONTEXT was clearly Jesus that the consecrated bread and wine mysteriously transforms or truly becomes His holy body, blood, soul and divinity. How that works, all will be revealed at the end of time. It is a mystery we can only behold....Thanks and be well.

The sheer foolishness of the Catholic Paganism in the mass is like paying money to the bank for a debt you took out that has already been paid off by someone else who loves you. The simple fact is that Catholics do not, because they cannot, understand faith, grace and justification and tragically the Sacrifice of Christ. You refuse to accept the gift of salvation which is a gift, and carries no debt or work to attain, and in fear, you worry you will be anathematized if you do anything that is not of the Catholic church when in reality, almost no denomination of Christianity does most of what the Catholic Church does. You're not the gatekeepers of Christian truth, you are pagans who metaphorically kill Christ over and over and over again countless times a year for your sins when His blood has already run to cancel your sins forever. All you have to do is accept Him as Lord, believe in your heart that He was raised and follow Him, but that is far too much for someone who keeps pointlessly working for a gift that has already been given freely and in love. But keep pretending your priests have supreme God powers of their own to call Christ from His throne and MAKE Him bow in obedience to His creation. The extent of the blasphemy and Paganism is why billions upon billions of poor Catholics will be told by Christ to leave His presence because He never knew them. Repent, and throw that toilet paper catechism in the bin and give up those pedophilic priests with god complexes. They cannot and will not save you. This is the pure love of truth that I give you and my heartbreak to see people doomed by a pagan religion that rejects the sufficiency of Christ. Also, I am not linked to any denomination, because God and the words He has inspired through the disciples and Apostles is all and adequate truth, knowledge and guidance in matters of faith and practice as a Christian. Anything and everything is are the words of evil and the devil, and that is common sense to all.

@@markmeyer4532 what you’ve presented here is a gross misrepresentation and caricature of the Catholic faith. You make me laugh at the showcase here of a typical ignorance and arrogance mistaken for evangelistic zeal of those with animosity towards Catholics and the Catholic faith. I invite you to take and read the official compendium of Catholic teaching entitled “Catechism of the Catholic Church” (CCC). Your long discourse here, I can see, is the product of long indoctrination of your teachers and pastors misleading you away from what the Bible clearly teaches. When you read CCC you will be surprised to discover how erroneous is your knowledge of the Catholic faith. When you read CCC be sure to have the Bible by the side for your easy reference and comparison. There you’ll see how you have been lied to and misled by your teachers and pastors. If you were a Catholic before with no or weak Bible knowledge as painted in the axiom I cited above then surely you were quickly deceived to take the so-called Romans Road which is the Evangelical tool to catch unknowing and unsuspecting Catholics. If you are a cradle Evangelical, then I can see you are still a mediocre or weak Evangelical at this point. I invite you to read, study and comprehend the full and whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation and its biblical theology. Do this comprehensive Bible Study for your education beyond the salad of clobber text passages you are fed with and trained to memorize and throw at us Catholics. Do this reading of the Bible and the CCC side by side. When you do this I assure you, you mature and become a strong Evangelical. As the axiom has been proven in reality, when you are a strong Evangelical, you leave behind the Romans Road and take the broader, genuine and full Roman Catholic Freeway. Do not be afraid or embarrassed to return home to the original, true and full Christian church founded by Jesus himself, the Catholic Church. To conclude and reiterate: take and read the CCC side by side with the Bible.

Once God raised up Paul and sent him to the gentiles Paul didn’t preach water anymore. He preached the gospel he received from Jesus. What’s the gospel??

Mark 14:22-24 While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Luke 13:26 Verse Concepts Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’; Luke 22:19-20 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

I was raised and “made” a catholic (baby baptism, communion, attendance at mass, learn prepared prayers, confess to a stranger who called himself “god”, eventually confirmation) . Growing up I saw no difference in catholics and non catholics behavior. I never saw a catholic really happy to be saved from hell. I knew I deserved hell being a sinner. And there is a true judge: God. I was taught NOT to read the Bible. When I did eventually read the Bible I realized why catholic priests kept me from the scriptures- the Bible contained the words to eternal life!!! Eternal life a catholic priest can’t give anyone. They don’t even have eternal life to give. Think about that. I personally could not answer the question If I were to die tonight would I KNOW I have eternal life (1Jn5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life,…) I could not honestly say I knew I had eternal life (Eternal life is Jesus Christ 1Jn1:2) after all the wafers I sincerely ate at mass and the ritual of confirmation there was no change. I knew hell deserved me because I was a sinner. I came to myself. Someone showed me the scriptures. I understood them, contrary to what I was taught not to read. I wanted to be saved God’s way. I confessed (my sinful life told me I was a sinner) -a sinner I wanted out of darkness (repentance) and asked God to forgive me, a sinner - my past, present and future sins to the saving of my soul. At that moment I knew God forgave me. Now the Holy Spirit resides in my soul. I can’t explain it because it is of God’s doing. You can have this too!! Being born of the flesh into this world was an act you had no part of. It’s a physical picture of the spiritual birth. God gave that as an example of being born again: a birth only God can perform that gives you residence with his Son, Jesus. I pray for lost souls to want truth. Argue if you disagree. Those words will come back to you at judgement day. God is not mocked. Or as you stand a sinner, God’s Son paid your price for redemption: sincerely believe the death, shedding of Jesus’ blood, burial and God the Father raising in from the dead satisfied your debt for sin. ❤ God’s love story to you.

Reads like a fairy tale. I would like to know who taught you NOT to read the bible? And why would that person have allowed you to go to Mass where you would have heard the bible over and over? Your statement makes little sense. Yes, you mentioned judgment. Study that word. Understand that someday you will stand before Jesus and will have previously made your choice to be with the sinners instead of in HIS church.

So in That Faith or Belief, You go to God and ask forgiveness for Your sins thru Jesus {Because Jesus is the Mediator between God and Man}, Even though you are Not saved by works, but by the Grace of God, You try to keep God's commandments because the wages of sin is death and Jesus said if you love me, you will keep my commandments. BIBLICAL AND HISTORICAL PROOF THAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH GOES BACK TO JESUS: (ALL copied from the protestant version of the Bible by Cynthia X) ➨ JESUS gives authority of the Church TO PETER the first Pope. (NOT TO CONSTANTINE, Not to Luther, not Calvin, not Ellen White or any other "reformer" ) ✦ MATT 16:13-19: Jesus gives keys of the Kingdom to PETER and builds his church upon PETER. ✦ ACTS 15:7-12: "After much debate had taken place, PETER got up and said to them, “My brothers, you are well aware that from early days God made his choice among you THAT THROUGH MY MOUTH THE GENTILES WOULD HEAR THE WORD OF THE GOSPEL AND BELIEVE." ✦ JOHN 21:15-19: Jesus tells PETER to "Feed my sheep" ✦ HEBREWS 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. ✦ JOHN 13:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. HISTORICAL EVIDENCE: ➨ The body of PETER now lies under the altar of St Peter's basilica. Evidence is even shown by unbiased secular media giants National Geographic, A&E & a book: "The Bones of St Peter" WRITINGS FROM THE EARLY CHURCH FATHERS: The word "Catholic" was used to describe the church in writing in the year 110 by St Ignatius of Antioch, and was used in a manner which suggests that it was already in use and understood. These writings also confirm Catholic teachings, not protestant teachings, and thgey confirm PETER as head of the church. Sources for the writings of the early church: book: The Fathers klnow best book: The four witnesses website: www.newadvent.com ➨The True Church is a TEACHING CHURCH: (To TEACH is to impart knowledge that is not oresently known....not in writing) ✦JOHN 14:26-31 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall TEACH you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ✦JOHN 16:14: "When the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you to all truth." ✦ Acts 8:26-40 King James Version (KJV) 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me?
