This. I'm not a rock guy but goddamn they are good. There's a ton of intricate stuff going on and yet it is also a simple FUN rock tune. They grab the best of pop, rock, metal, funk and many other styles. Most bands would make a mess of it; Band-maid makes masterpieces.

"Not to dominate the song, enhance the song" Exactly! Each member have super technique but they don't dominate the song by one person. Great solos in every songs but not too long, and we want next song! "Please give me next song! next solo!" Oh it's rabbit hole.

Kanami has been composing 95% of the Band Maid songs since 2015, and the arrangement are shared. Besides, there are two main types of instrumentalists. Those who are happy to show off their technique, and those who know, how to use it best. Kanami, MISA and Akane definitely belong to the latter group and that is why they form such a phenomenal trio, and sometimes shining as short-lived duets. Great reaction.

This is their best song imo. Always feel better listening to it :) The great part of the Misa into Kanami Duel, is that Misa's last note directly feeds into Kanami's first note, it's like a relay team handing over the baton.

Normally, reactors who keep pausing a video annoy me to no end. I know for YT reasons, some is necessary, but too often the reactor just fills the pauses with fluff - I know it was great, I don't need "you" to stop and tell me it was great. However in THIS case - each time you paused you broke something down and explained some technicalities or nuances to the performance that I found really enlightening. I really enjoyed hearing the reasons *why* something sounded (or felt) the way it did. That aspect of music has always fascinated me. Thank you! Definite Subscribe

The "wanting more" feeling is exactly how I describe their solo parts. A lot of people want them to write longer or more technical solos, well I disagree. I love having the feeling that the part was amazing and I want to hear more of it instead of it going on forever. Also great point on them being brave on using multiple ideas for one song. What blows my mind even more is they write new parts for songs that are only heard live and sometimes maybe only for 1 show. They could use these for a new song but instead turn it into something amazing to enhance a live show.
@SMILELY995

Ironically, "want more" is the name of a song that they are working on. They gave all their fans a raw copy of it during the "day of maid" event. I will treasure it in my pc even after the completed version comes out.

Yeah I think the solos are very appropriate for what they are doing. I like bands like Lovebites ( and other power metal bands) too that throw like 2:30 minutes of solos into songs but that is something that just fits more in power metal.

Best band of this millennia! Musical ability of Rush. Energy and tightness of AC DC. Showmanship and sexiness of the Rolling Stones. Melodic genius and euphoric warmth of Fleetwood Mac. I've been playing music and writing songs in Nashville for over 20 years. Which means I pay my bills by being a hotel maintenance man. But I make enough off of music to pay my bar tabs and buy more Guitars. I'm not great but I've played with some greats. These girls are as good as anyone out there!... Also It has been fun to watch your evolution on this band. From this is pretty good. Not what I expected. To these girls are hit machines. You helped me a lot also. I knew they were awesome but you John maddened it. A lot of that that stuff I knew. A lot I did because I was taught. Never thought about it just did it. You're very good at this. Thanks for teaching. Thanks for helping in world domination! Band Maid! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Very astute of you to recognize their songwriting style (more like credo) of not getting it out of balance. Everything is to uplift the song, not wank all over everything. It’s all the subtleties that are there that you may not catch the first or second time. Hey Chase, I so much enjoy your breakdown of the music that Band Maid does, just great. You notice the little nuances of the different members very well. Most people notice of course Misa, Kanami, Akane and Saiki who are all incredible on the own instruments but what is so often overlooked is Miku. She has a beautiful voice that complement Saiki so well and her rhythm guitar work ties the music together for the band, never overstated, just the right amount delivered everytime.

Loved it again, the reaction, I mean... I love this song, loved your (almost) involuntary smile as soon as the chorus came through... I just can't get enough of these ladies. I already saw a lot of people mentioning how short the songs are, but all Band-Maid songs have a pretty "normal" length between 3 to not much more than 4 minutes long... nothing to do with Dead Kennedy's "Dog Bite" (that's so awesome) ... they just leave you wanting more and more. Kanami's solos have that same effect... BTW, you should check "Matchless GUM" and the way Kanami leaves the listener desperately salivating for "please just a few more seconds of that, please please..." ... but she delivers just the right amount...no mercy! :-D More Band-Maid reactions please, there are like 80 songs you haven't done yet, so, yeah, if you can still find the acoustic "Puzzle" would be awesome, better yet would be finding that acoustic moment on Zepp Tokyo 2018 and do both "Puzzle" and "Anemone"... check Kanami's sweet backing vocals in kawaii overload and Saiki being jawdropping awesome... Cheers, as always, loved the reaction video.

Great review and love your reviews of my favorite band currently. I love that you take the time to breakdown WHY the song sounds so good, WHY they are doing what in the song. It's a great technical reaction that most other reactors are not doing. Keep it up. Also, if you loved this, which Dice is one of my Top 10 songs from the ladies, you REALLY need to see the video for Blooming. Blooming and Don't You Tell Me are my 2 favorite Band Maid music videos.

What is interesting, is that despite their songs not being simple, they really don't over think it. They play rock music and they just play it well.

Great reaction to a really good song. MISA's bass tone is awesome on this track. What really does the song for me is that it SWINGS. You can do classic rock'n'roll dancing to the chorus. Being old, I can remember when you could dance to rock music ;)

Actually, as far as Puzzle goes, it might be interesting to do the MV, and then follow up with the acoustic live. The difference is fascinating. It's a heartbreak song (one verse sticks with me- "You look so beautiful dancing together; now could you be beautiful somewhere else? If you danced far away and never came back, that would be fine with me.") While the electric version is an explosion of pent up rage, the acoustic is a bitter self criticism.

A fantastic breakdown of a truly great song. I agree with all the points you made! The one point you made about being brave was particularly spot on. They just are relentless with seemingly no thought about possibly running out of ideas for the future. I often wonder how it is possible for them to continue to make such great and diverse songs over and over. I almost worry sometimes that it has to come to an end because it just seems inhuman at times. The studio version of this here was the way to go because IMHO they still haven't quite got this song perfected live, though they are getting closer, the production on this MV is just fantastic. Just such a great punch in the face, not a note that is not purposeful.

Yep - Band-Maid's music makes me happy too. Kanami has talked before about exactly what art is supposed to do: Invoke emotions. She and the band really, really know how to bake that into the compositions and performances. They're not alone, of course, but they do it exceptionally well. Po.

When you talking about headphones, it reminded me of a band that I LOVE listening to with headphones on. I love how the music and different sounds that make up their songs seem to roll around inside my head.

Brother-man! Love your reviews/reactions! 👍 One way to TL;DR is to say that Mincho is a Genius composer/arranger, and she has the absolute best bassist in MISA, and drummer in A-chan, creating the warp-drive for every one of their compositions. 🤘 Add to that Miku's (po!) genius at lyrics-writing (and for forming the band), and Sai-chan's ability to create the perfect vocal atmosphere (with Miku backing), and there's nothing more to say except MORE BAND-MAID! 😎🤘

The beginning if this reminds me of old, gritty surf rock. I lived in a rooming house with a lady who had her own surf rock band, so... I kinda grew to really like it. I DO like this bass and drum driven sound. The drummer of the surf band told me I liked their stuff so much because I liked it DIRTY. I was shocked, and then had to agree. I was raised on Manilow, Mouskouri and Springsteen.

You hit on the very reason I love this band. Their music is upbeat and happy, makes me feel good listening to it. So many metal bands are about death, suicide. And devil worship. I want to feel good after I take my headphones off, not like i need to destroy something.
