Hurts was clearly playing thru injury last season (For some reason everyone skips over that part)

You brought up Stafford's health concerns last offseason but didn't discuss the season he had following those concerns. He'll be just fine behind an improved offensive line. Also don't underrate just how good of a head coach McVay is. Makes a world of a differnce AD or no AD. You glowed about Shannahan. He's pretty good but with that roster has been a choke artist when it counts. I give McVay big respect for what he did last season with the roster he fielded every week. I'm gonna be that guy to defend Colin, Rams over Niners is not crazy. I still would lean Niners, but Rams have an offense that is as good as almost anybody in the NFL, are very well coached, are mightily improved at CB, losing Donald is HUGE, but Kobie Turner was a sneaky star DLmen as a rookie, you add Verse and Fiske in draft, and this defense is suddenly looking pretty solid. 49ers have questions at OL, they did do some replacements at DL, but I think losing Armstead isn't something to not look at. 49ers also rely a lot on the health of their top weapons, and now they may have some questions to answer with the Aiyuk situation. The Rams ended the year super hot, and now had a bazillion picks and with how well they draft Rams winning the division is not out of question. I personally have both teams finishing 11-6, with the tie breaker going to the 49ers due to sweeping the Rams since they matchup well with the Rams.

The Texans were hot dogshit the past few years and all of a sudden they are a great team. The Bengals suddenly shot up to being one of the best teams in the league a few seasons ago. The Cardinals got off to a blazing start in 2021, but fell off a cliff, like the Eagles did last season. The Packers are looking to be a contending team all of a sudden, when their future looked real bleak. Needless to say, power rankings before the season even starts are worthless really.

Eagles biggest problem was solved. After losing two great coordinators after going to SB they placed two coaches in house in those positions with zero experience calling plays. Then they changed D coordinator in week 12 ! Injuries on the defense also happened especially back end. They had practice squad guys playing in secondary , because of new defense in week 12 guys were out of position. It was disaster after starting 10-1. It was all coaching. The roster that was 10-1got better. Great draft , coaching problem fixed.

So yeah when it comes to offense McVay has a lot to work with especially with an O-line that can create gaps for the running backs Now let's talk defense - The Rams have dogs and they are young and hungry Last season defense was the Rams weakness especially when it came to the secondary and rushing the passer. But they totally addressed that issue this offseason D-line Rams you got Byron Young Edge coming off a rookie season where he got 8 sacks and Kobie Turner who also a rookie got 9 sacks as a nose tackle. Now you add Jared Verse and Brendan Fiske to that line and you also have guys like Bobby Brown, Brennan Jackson, Tyler Davis, Michael hoecht that's a scary young D-line. Safety you got Kamren Curl, Kamren Kinchens, Quintin lake, Russ yeast, Jason Taylor Corner you got Tre'Davious White, Darius Williams, cobie Durant, Tre tomlinson, derion Kendrick Linebacker is the weak spot but you still got earnest Jones, Christian roseboom, troy Reeder, Jacob Hummel and Brennan Jackson Oh and yes while the Rams backups beat the 49ers backups last season it shows we have more depth then people realize and we were a different team when they beat us the second game of the season. Another thing the Rams lost to the lions was by one point with a ok defense and the lions got lucky the refs didn't call pass interference on Puca or ruffing the passer on Stafford. The Rams have a better team now than they did last season and that's without Aaron Donald.

The list seems pretty tame, no teams with the same rankings, no 1.5 ranked team, no team in heaven or hell, the Broncos are not first. But then again, maybe watching Perns's top 10 has lowered my expectations?

Love your work, but I do think it was a mistake not to listen to Cowherd's explanation of his tier list before doing this take. Not doing that leaves you open to fair criticism, and it also prevents you from putting out a better product; one that takes into account Colin's arguments for why he ranked each team where he did.

The Chiefs are no.1 out of respect, which is fair. I think not ranking them 1st is disrespectful because they have earned so much more benefit of the doubt than any other team in football over the past 6 years and have the best QB, HC, etc. But by that same logic, shouldn’t the Niners be 2nd? Look at their recent history. Feels odd imo.

Packers have a better offense than San Francisco. Clearly the better qb is in Green Bay and it’s not even close. It’s arguable who is the better running back between Josh Jacobs and Christian McCaffrey. And the Green Bay Packers have way more depth on the wide receiver, chart than the Niners much more talented. Packers have too tight end the Niners just have one Packers back rb is better than all the back ups in San Fran. Packers secondary is better than San Francisco’s.

I have the texans worse this year. I know they have that drama queen wide receiver now, but he will be a distraction. Tank and Colins will get their targets, and diggs will be pissed about it. Also, they will play a lot harder schedule this year, and teams won't underestimate them either. Rams will be worse. I think stafford falls way off this year. Bills struggled last year. They cut basically their entire secondary. Lost two wide receivers Chargers won 5 games last season . How are they top 10 when the Bengals are not even on the board.
