I say oof-da fairly often haha "Ope" is for when you open a door and there's a person on the other side, oof-da is more of a "job-well-done" sound. PS: Do you know why purple is the Vikings team color? You'd be purple too if you've been choking for 60 years.

As a Minnesotan here we go, 1: It’s not that cold I go out side in the winter in a tee shirt all the time. 2: Lefse is the best food ever. 3: I’ve never heard a prince song before. 4: I’ve never eaten lutefisk before and I never even heard of it until a month ago. 5: And I am also confused why everyone likes the Vikings.

Prince thing is funny. Working for a company that stretched the country. It never failed when people came into town they wanted to go out to Paisley Park and all they talked about was Prince. Meanwhile I rarely listened to the guy none of my friend did neither. Lefse, never heard of it until going away to college in North Dakota. The O thing is real. Never notice it until listening to commercials and it really pops. Pop thing is funny, went to the Texas state fair in 2014 and asked for a pop. They had no clue what it was. Then I remember to say I will have a coke, and they ask what flavor. Which I agree is as odd as saying pop. One last thing. While I know hotdishes are a MN thing. Never grew up on them. My mom hated hotdish. The only time I have had a hotdish was tater tot hotdish my ex mother in law made. I felt so bad as the texture with the much american cheese made me gag and nearly throw up.

We say oof-da a lot in da Nortd and Lefse (lef-sah) is really good. It's a Norwegian desert, very tasty. I'd say Bob Dylan is highly idolized over Prince in MN. I don't like him but if you ever attend live music in a coffee shop, bar or open mic you will most likely hear at least one of his songs. Obviously "ope" is like a universal word throughout MN but I'd say a less know, but very overused phrase is "you know." Not sure how that translated into don't chya know but eh, at least it's close...
@tenllell83252 жыл бұрын
It only gets to -40 in the very , very northern part of the state, and it is very, very rare . In the Twin Cities in seldom gets to 20 below. I lived in Minnesota all my life and I never heard anyone say "Uff Da" or "notcha know ". I do not know what a Lutefish is and I never heard of anyone eating one. No clue what a 'lefse" is or heard of anyone eating it. We use the term casserole like in tomato casserole and I never heard the term hot dish. We do always say "pop" every time. We do draw out the vowel "o" more than others.

Completely different from Canada? You share two provincial borders and a great lake. Part of your state is only accessible from Canada, Northwest Angle? Canada is the most hockey country and Minnesota is the most hockey state. Canada and Minnesota both won two World Series between 1987 and 1993. You have both lost an NBA franchise but have one now. You are covered with snow most of the year, like Canada no super bowl trophies. Just own the Canadian comparison or find me a state more Canadian. :)
