It's also an unintentional but valid way to retroactively justify why Luffy's powers are inconsistent throughout the series. Why can Luffy stretch super far sometimes, and only a bit sometimes? Why can Luffy not get hurt my impacts but still occasionally gets hurt by impacts (non-haki)? Why can Luffy even use his gears and set himself on fire? The explanations, while suitably immersive, are obviously fictional and cartoony in nature. But now we see... Luffy's fruit is designed around imagination. All those things make sense if it's in the context of imagining things in a cartoony and silly way. It really appears that with devil fruits, creativity is really the limit of how they are used, making it the perfect power system for Oda and also consistent to the story.

@@MarcyTheKindaCoolWizard well I meant the dino stuff justifies previous inconsistencies in the series including with Luffy's powers. I can't think of all of them now but basically the way Oda has written devil fruits he's basically allowed to say "That wasn't me accidentally forgetting how this power was supposed to work, this is the user of the fruit forgetting how their power is supposed to work" given that we've learned that dreams and desires hold literal power in One Piece. Obviously Oda's not perfect and many of those inconsistencies were either minor oversights or intentional comedic gags that technically broke the power system but that's why I think it's a funny way to make all those things "justified" and make sense in universe. Think Luffy and Brook growing their teeth back on Whole Cake Island. Can our understanding of devil fruits explain why milk was able to heal either Luffy or Brook? Sure, it's a gag for Brook that milk is good for your bones, but obviously it shouldn't just instantly heal him. Even moreso for Luffy. Rubber has absolutely nothing to do with his ability to just grow back detached body parts. But if you take Oda's description of devil fruits and also the general themes of how willpower trumps all and all dreams are achievable in One Piece at face value... Then yes, you could technically say Luffy and Brook growing back teeth with milk is justified in universe. All this to say this obviously isn't why Oda made these themes relevant and he certainly wasn't thinking about immersion and realism when writing the series, but it's just a funny line of thought to follow that the amount of freedom Oda has written into his story technically allows for readers to come up with any excuses they want for anything and it technically can't be considered untrue. This is why people sometimes think Oda has made insane connections or foreshadowing for future events in tiny easter eggs that are actually coincidences. It's because Oda leaves so much room for freedom and interpretation in his series that you can wholeheartedly believe something that is unlikely to be true and it still has a tiny chance of actually bearing fruit.

True, he did hit Vivi that one time. But generally, he's tougher on the boys than the girls. As far as most OP characters go, Luffy cares the least about gender. But I think some gender norms did still slip into how Oda writes him.
