Yeah, not "set up" (which means to determine the fight from the start)...... Mick simply handpicked fighters who would "most likely" lose the fight in general. Kind of taking the number 4 contender as the "opponent" instead of the number 1 contender. Still "good"... just not "good enough at this time", sort of matches.

@@Dularrno that’s not a set up it’s called hand picked . He fought various contenders and some discretionary opponents. Joe Czack his 2nd title defense was a top prospect mentioned in the first Rocky movie as a possible opponent for Apollo Creed and we see Rocky knocked out the Germany champion in his 4th defense. They were fighters who Rocky would most likely beat . Rocky legitimately won his matches .

Adrian's character arc in the first three Rocky movies is remarkable. She goes from being mousy, shy, and almost timid to a fiercely strong stoic woman who helps her broken husband find his footing again. Rocky gave Adrian a newfound sense of confidence and determination, and Talia Shire communicates this beautifully. Her delivery of that speech on the beach is brutally moving: "You're the one that's gotta settle it!... Get rid of it! Because when all the smoke is clear and everyone's through chanting your name, it's just gonna be us! And you can't live like this! WE can't live like this!" And let's take a moment to recognize that Mr. T is actually a genuine, down to earth good guy in real life.

Great reaction, Dawn! Adrian's Golden Speech to Rocky is a great example of her character arc. It is one of the highlights of the movie for me. Some FYI for you: - "Eye of the Tiger" was specifically written for this movie. - Mr. T got his start here. He moved on to star in a TV series called "The A-Team". His quote "I pity the fool!" became very popular. - Mr. T in real life is the opposite of Clubber Lang. He is a real class act. He took his mother to the "Rocky 3" Premiere and she was very angry with him. She said "I didn't raise you to behave like THAT!" What a dear woman.

The painting at the end was done by Leroy Neiman who was a popular artist that did sports themed paintings in the 70s and 80s. He has a small part in this film as the ring announcer during the Thunder Lips fight. Sly wanted to cast an actual boxer as Clubber but when they trained together he hit so hard that Stallone was afraid for his health so he got Mr T who was working as a bouncer in a Chicago nightclub and bodyguard for boxer Leon Spinx at the time.

This was the first Rocky movie I got to actually see in the theater. I think I was 12. We didn't have sources like IMDB and such, so seeing Hulk & Mr T were total surprises. Hulk was just really starting to run roughshod over the rest of wrestling and Mr T's TV show was amazing at the time. Bringing them both into a movie at that time was not even thought possible. The amazing thing to me with this series is that they could have produced 10 films in the time they did the first five. It could have been a true money grab, but they didn't. Sure - they kept them coming, but they had substance and stood on their own as solid films. I think Rocky IV was the last (during the run) of the good ones, they really tried hard not to totally sell out and produce a bad product simply for the money. I totally respect that.

After Mr. T got out of the Army in the late 70s, he went to work as a bouncer in Chicago, and quickly became the doorman, wearing the jewelry left behind by customers (some accidentally, and some as a result of being in a fight in the club and being forcefully ejected by the bouncers), which kept them from having to be let back in the club to claim their items. His look and personality got him noticed, and after a couple of years, he became a body guard for wealthy celebrities, which resulted in him moving to Los Angeles. He began to go to auditions, but he wasn't hired as an actor until he was cast in a very early reality show - a kind of "Ninja Warrior"-type show for bouncers called "America's Toughest Bouncer" - which he won and which REALLY got him noticed. That led to him being cast as a regular member of the TV show The A-Team, which skyrocketed his popularity and sold a ton of merch, and eventually as his role as Clubber Lang. That established him as an actor and he had several of his own shows, including his own cartoon show. He worked steadily into the 90s before pulling back from acting in the 2000s.

As a die-hard Stallone fan since the 80s, I have always loved Rocky IV since it was released in 1985 and I have seen it countless times, but some of the changes Sly made in the new cut are excellent and especially the Apollo character benefits from that. If I had the skills, I would make my own personal version out of these two cuts (e.g. I prefer the final fight from the original cut). Mr T (Laurence Tureaud) was an amateur wrestler ("real" wrestling), a nightclub bouncer (he got all his jewellery from customers he got into fights with) and won some toughman contests. Rocky III was his first major acting debut which then led to his role as B. A. Baracus in the TV show The A-Team. In '85 he was in the main event at Wrestlemania 1 in a tag-team match with Hulk Hogan.

This is more like classic old school boxing. The champion fights a few non-championship fights. Hand pick a few lesser challengers. Until they are forced to retire, stripped of their belt or fight the top challenger.

Mr. T got his start as a bouncer in bars. Where he broke up bar fights. Then he entered several world's toughest bouncer and worlds toughest man contests He got his start in acting when he got a role in the 1980's TV series The A Team where he played a character named B. A. Baracus. The initials B and A stood for Bad Attitude the character was a former US Army Special Forces Sargent who along with the other members of his team were falsely accused of and convicted in a military court martial of robbing a bank while they were serving as a Special Forces A Team during the Vietnam War. The whole team promptly escaped from military custody and started a life as soldiers of fortune and avoided being recaptured by the military police.

Mr. T started out as a bouncer and gained a reputation. He then became a bodyguard for celebrities, most notable being Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. He appeared on a show called "America's Toughest Bouncer" and caught the attention of Stallone because of the cool and colorful way he talked.

Mr. T is the stage name of the actor (real name Laurence Tureaud) who played Clubber Lang in Rocky III. In fact, Rocky III was Mr. T's film debut. He went on to be featured in the comedy DC Cab, and later starred in the very popular action TV series, The A-Team. Mr. T and Hulk Hogan met on the set of Rocky III and became friends, which lead to Mr. T taking part in the main event of the very first WrestleMania, where he and Hogan teamed up against "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff in a tag team match. During the 1980's, Mr. T was one of the most popular celebrities in Hollywood, with his own Saturday morning cartoon, breakfast cereal, action figure, and starring in various TV specials. He continued his relationship with the (then) WWF, fighting "Rowdy" Roddy Piper in a boxing match at WrestleMania 2, and occasionally acting as a special guest referee during an occasional grudge match. Hulk Hogan and other wrestlers would also appear as guest stars on The A-Team from time to time. Sadly his acting career didn't go much farther after the eventual cancellation of The A-Team. He would star in commercials and PSA's, make special celebrity appearances at events or guest star as himself in the occasional TV show. But other than that, he just kind of faded away, like many popular stars do.

Mr. T was discoverd while employed as a bodyguard I think it was. He had also been trying to break into an acting Career at the time. He was also involved with strongman competitions. People have said that his real character is the total opposite of the ones he usually plays. They say he's a very sweet likable good natured person. And he fought cancer and beat it's ass!!! He's a cancer surviver.

Mr. T attended the premiere of Rocky 3 with his mother. During the scene where he yells lurid remarks at Adrian, his mother turned to him and said "I did not raise you to talk to a lady like that." She then stormed out of the theatre. I actually don't know for sure if that is truth or urban legend but it is pretty widely spoken of. I do know first-hand that Mr T has a video singing a song about 'treating your mother right'.

One of my favorite bits of trivia involved Mr. T. watching this movie with his mother. As soon as the part came on where Clubber was making advances toward Adrian, Mr. T's mother got mad, said to him, "I did not raise you to speak to a lady like that!" and walked out of the theater!

And just like that, America was cheated out of 34 years of great villainy. If his mom kept his mouth shut, we might have seen him in Predator, New Jack City, Boys-N-da Hood, Harlem Niights, who knows! How many actors have made a CAREER of being the bad guy: and then transitioned into other roles? Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, Raymond Burr, Steve Buscemi, John Malkovich, Humphrey Bogart, and Raul Julia Momma T doesnt understand how acting works.

RIP to Carl Weathers (Apollo) and Burt Young (Paulie). The beach scene with Stallone and Talia Shire (adrian) always gives me chills, she delivers such a good monologue and her character beside Rocky is so amazing how she starts out timid and shy but very sweet to a very strong woman who adapts to living with a fighter, and she's jsut as strong a fighter as he is, but in a different way. Beach monologue gives me chills every time. Hoping I can find my Adrian someday.

The first time, I remember Mr. T. I was watching the best body guard contest on a Saturday afternoon. It consisted of multiple events. The one event everyone talked about that saw it. The obstacle course to get from the back of the bar to outside the front door of the bar. Mr. T had run the course the fastest. He had an average time up to the last two obstacles (to exit the front doors and stop the time upon reaching the sidewalk outside the bar). He topped everyone time by running thru the doors, thus that was one of those, did you see that on the television over the weekend?. I believed it made the Wild World of Sports back then.

Eye of the Tiger was written and performed by members of Survivor after Queen turned down Stallone for use of Another One Bites The Dust. The first Rocky wasn't a boxing movie, it was a love story about a boxer and a shy girl. Stallone tried to sell the picture to several studios for a few years before he was actually able to get it picked up. Butkus is Stallone's actual dog he raised from birth. Yes, real prize fights are exciting, you would have a blast, I wish I could take you to one. Anyway, loved the review, love you, take care and stay safe ❤️

When this movie was filmed in the spring of 1981, Hulk Hogan was just a minor star in the wrestling business and had always been a "bad guy" like in the movie. When the movie was released in 1982, it made Hogan very well known in wrestling and outside of it. He had already started becoming popular as a "good guy" in the fall of 1981 and Rocky 3 only made him a bigger star. Within two years, Hogan would be signed by Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) and become champion there. In 1985, the first WrestleMania was held. Hogan was in the main event in a tag team match. His partner was Mr. T.

Originally the song for this movie was going to be "You're The Best Around" by Joe Esposito, but as much as Sly liked the song he didn't feel it really fit the movie. So he went to the band Survivor to come up with a new song, and they wrote "Eye of the Tiger" for the movie. The other song (the 1st one) ended up in "The Karate Kid" instead, and fits way better I might add.

Why Rocky 3 works so well, even WITHOUT the Apollo/Rocky friendship. Because you have a rather simple story of "Mirror Opposites" with Clubber/Rocky going on. Rocky has ALWAYS been concerned about what he EARNS in the ring and out of it. Clubber DEMANDS everything in the ring and out of it. Rocky is KIND, Clubber is RUDE. Rocky is about the "science" of boxing (strategy, training, planning) where Clubber is about the "brute force" of boxing (knock outs as soon as possible and direct attacks). And Rocky APPRECIATES everything that he gets through boxing WITH HUMILITY.... Clubber CONTINUES to demand everything that comes with "winning the belt". In short, being a complete "mirror battle" between the characters, you can FEEL the way that Clubber's "direct approach" differs from Rocky's and WHY Rocky's victory at the end feels so good... because it is deserved not just due to his hard work, but because Rocky overcomes the same "negative traits" that he has to keep in check at ALL TIMES in the ring. And this "internal struggle" of good/bad, being displayed on a physical level (boxing) is a completely AMAZING visual/narrative story to tell.

Well I originally Sylvester Stallone said in an interview before this came out that this was going to be the final rocky film he felt the story comes full circle that Rocky and Apollo start as rivals at the end of the third become almost like brothers . But with how huge this movie was and how big the fasbase is it became a saga with rocky 6 being the very last Rocky film .
