Stan is singing in our language which is Maori, we are a staunch people, stanch to our culture, our culture is based on Tikanga meaning correct ways. You can see a cultural challenge using our war dance performed by our national rugby team the All Black's who are No1 in world rugby... Stan has many songs, there are many haka & we are a loving people who are great hosts to visitors. Mauri ora ki a koutou...

I love the way listeners are picking up on the kaha (power) of the Māori language, considering NZ’s new Coalition government is doing all it can using official policies to remove Māori from public view and use. By this song gaining such international recognition, perhaps it will help convince our prime minister that his anti-Māori language policies might not be such a good move after all, even if it’s just to avoid embarrassment on his part.

I dig your style and glad you dig Stan. When someone sings from there soul you know it’s not just pure talent, you know there’s a story (challenges) behind it. One could say music saved his soul and he sings from the pit of gratitude and as a vessel of purpose for all people. I have followed him since 2009 Australian idol which he won. He is an indigenous Māori of New Zealand (roots) but born in Australia. He has been residing back in NZ for most part of his life, throwing himself back into his culture and language. I think the song ‘I Am’ is really a development of where Stan has truly found his superpower, and I hope that we may all find our superpowers in our own ‘Origins’ roots. I am a happy subscriber now 🤣👍

The back-up singers Stan has worked with are named The Standard. However, the woman back-up singer in this video is not the usual one… I read somewhere else than the female vocal on the movie-associated video is his cousin, and maybe that’s her appearing here. The band is The Levites.

I usually hate lives performances because its so disappointing 😂😂😂 but Stan Walker actually sounds just as good, if not better, in live performances. Pretty amazing huh
