As 42 years old Korean, the firm was well made but not enough to explain why the SeoTaiji is the most influential in K-pop history. He also changed the relationship and hierarchy between a production company and an artist. Until the early 90's, the power of production companies were so strong, so even in the case an artist become so popular nation-waidely, the profit distributed to the aritst was very very small. But, SeoTaiJi had fought for the right of the artists and he won. After that, the artists can have a way better profit-shares that they deserve. SeoTaiji brought the Rap, Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop based dance, and rebelious spirits in the K-pop industry. You should also note that, YG, one of the member of SeoTaiJi group, made the enter company, and it brought us so many famouse K-pop artist like BigBang, 2NE1 and BlackPink.

Hey DT. The concert Seo Taji did in 2017 with BTS as guests is called 'Time: Traveler'. BTS weren't only there for one song, they did multiple songs with him, and this concert was AMAZING I watched it a few times. You should try to check it out if you can find it somehow.

Every time I watch this video of DKDKTV I wonder why they didn't include his career development after '96. For me personally, this is an important period from - '98 till now. That era ST got me into Korean music and I love his attitude towards music and professionalism. He is really a great artist and you should try to listen to some of his solo songs - starting from Quiet Night his last official album (yet), and go watch the MV for "Cristmalo.Win" - you will see the full creepy keyboard potential of Docskim (the producer of Jimin's Lie) - I just loved that MV from the day it was released... Trust me - you will enjoy it.

@AwakeningWings
@AwakeningWings 2 жыл бұрын
@@MsKaz1000 I know and they were dressed that way to show a point of view about dictators. It was because people thought that it was a swastika on the flag, but it actually wasn't and I watched that full performance. Seo Taiji and BTS were also speaking about how schools and government force us to be like them. They were talking about things against dictatorship. The lyrics to the song show it too. (The Nazi flags are red and white with a stolen swastika. The swastika is part of Indian culture and many other older cultures and to use it for something destructive was very bad. So no one can use that swastika now. I still see them on lamps and lanterns, but I don't think it's used much now.) So these people who bullied BTS were lying about everything to bring down BTS. People don't take the time to actually look and make sure before talking about it. This is why ARMY protects BTS from these lies and haters. (I'm just sharing this information/knowledge. I don't want to bring up pain about the horrible things people did to BTS but sometimes we have to talk about it. I'm sorry if I hurt anyone by bringing this up.)

Seo Taiji is an amazing guy. After Seo Taiji and Boys disbanded, he went on to have a solo career and has been making music for decades. He went on to reinvent himself over and over. He even did nu metal for a while. You should check out Seo Taiji and Boys doing Come Back Home on stage. Warning: there is a black face controversy and if you do any reactions on Seo Taiji, you'll probably hear about it/see it. You'll have to make up your own mind as to whether they were meaning to be disrespectful.
@DoubleMonoLR
@DoubleMonoLR 4 ай бұрын
The "black face controversy" as far as I could find is an invention based on some clueless kpop fan assumptions, and as usual online endless repetition of such claims. It was seemingly based on one of the members seemingly having a black persons skin colour & style, which would certainly be cultural appropriation in that particular case. However there was clearly no intention to mock or degrade, so it probably wouldn't be what many people would consider blackface. But rather more importantly...that's his skin colour, not all Koreans are pale.
@IThink2Much
@IThink2Much 4 ай бұрын
@@DoubleMonoLR While his skin color is indeed darker than average in South Korea, in some of their performances, it was MUCH darker and his hair is normally straight but he definitely did use black hair styles. I agree that there was likely no intention to be disrespectful, but from interactions I've had online, the black community doesn't tend to care about intentions when it comes to black face and cultural appropriation. And I do understand their side of it when it comes to seeing people turn their appearance into a costume. And while I also do feel that it would be helpful to give people a little (but only a little) grace for things they did when they were young and stupid and didn't necessarily understand why it would be wrong, I can't speak for the black community. I was just letting the reactor know that the controversy exists as a heads-up.

I think what's interesting is that both his and BTS' stories are similar. They both speak their truth in their lyrics and do social commentary. They both have the underdog story and weren't supported by the industry so they had to come up with their own alternatives. Even though Seo Taiji started kpop with his honest music, the average kpop song became pretty bubblegum over time. BTS again rose to fame largely due to their honesty and har work. Seo Taiji was the most influencial artist in Korea, BTS has become that worldwide. It fascinates me that a lot of people still don't see this and even with everyone nowadays trying to create/become the "next BTS" don't see this. They think they'll just sing and dance nicely and use money to pay themselves to the top. It's not gonna work, it never has 😅

Even before BTS was what it is today Seo taiji was always considered the one to open all doors for kpop groups. They were rebels, they broke rules, they made music that was not acceptable in those days, they pushed ideas and empowered the young people. BTS was never the first to push kpop in these ways, BTS did not open the doors for other kpop groups, they followed and broke records but they were not the firsts and they did not open the doors for no one. Now lets watch Army be mad at the facts😂

I do not consider Seo Taiji as the first KPop artist, I consider him the father of KPop. So basically he is more like the inventor or employer. All KPop acts that were manufactured after him, such as BTS & 1Tym, would then be his "employees" or "children", once the industry began to establish itself. If other people consider him the first KPop act, then I am fine with that, but again I do not. While it seems like he officially founded the industry, he actually ushered it in by accident (or inadvertently). He has been active making & performing musc since the late 1980's. The irony though is that he does not consider himself KPop. Heck, I do not either. He is his own musician & music. Of course he has performed at KPop venues, with his band & in collabs with KPop acts. Think about it though, KPop was founded by a metal & rock musician, yet KPop itself is much closer to hiphop & R&B, simply because Taiji made a huge musical & cultural impact with his hiphop group "Boys". Perhaps it was destiny & fate that the proper formula succeeded with "Boys" to bring KPop into reality. Had he started a metal band in 1992, then KPop may have not come into existence, who knows. Maybe another music industry might have been born in SK instead, or no new industry at all, but here we are today & KPop is alive & kicking, in our timeline of this universe.

He popularised the concept of kpop, which was itself ultimately largely based on jpop. His own stuff was clearly far more based on western performers though, with obvious influences like Cypress Hill.
@robwebnoid5763
@robwebnoid5763 4 ай бұрын
@@DoubleMonoLR ... Yes I have also said that in many comments throughout the years, in that is one thing many KPop fans do not realize, that KPop was never inherently Korean. It is a western-based music concept since its beginning. JPop itself also came from the US. Seo Taiji (real name Jeong Hyeon cheol) helped usher in, magnify & popularize Hiphop in SK, which hiphop itself was still only about 2 decades new in the US. Then he mixes that with rock music, because he is first & foremost a rock & metal musician. I think many people thought that Taiji & Boys was a pure hiphop act, but they were actually a hiphop-rock band. He has also met with Jonathan Davis of Korn who bought Taiji's album(s). I think people forget that Korea, along with Japan & other parts of Asia, had been listening to & adopting western music since at least the 19th century, so that is part of the butterfly effect of why KPop got popular because Korea was already familiar with how western music sounded like for at least 150 years, including the regular usage of 12TET & other western musical concepts. Korea was also already familiar with rock music since the 1950's, as the Communist conflict helped accidentally bring that in. Even Korean Trot is a progression of music from the US, also by way of Japan, unfortunately through colonial rule. BTS is one band that is thus making KPop come back full circle to its origin, the US, by being the first of their KPop generation to make KPop even more hugely popular internationally than ever before, even though some other KPop acts did arrive first, like the WonderGirls, but never really made an impact. KPop is also slowly bringing in rock bands. That has been the big irony of KPop, in that they never really addressed that one aspect of Seo Taiji, which are instrument bands. Taiji & Boys also played as an instrument band in some of their performances, not just singing & choreo all the time. One day, KPop may throw away the singing+dancing aspect & incorporate only singing+instruments, just like typical rock/jazz bands, or it may incorporate all 3 aspects, sing + choreo + instruments, which would then copy what KPop's forefathers did 4-5 decades ago, such as the Jackson 5 & Prince. It's one possible future of an industry that is only 25 years old. And even the word "idol" in this context goes all the way back to the days of Sinatra (RIP) in the 1940's when he was an idol, as the word "KPop" itself is just a nickname for this industry & is really formally called idol music. In recent times, Taiji converted his Time Traveler 2017 concert, where he collaborated with BTS, into a theatrical release, including on Apple TV, afaik. It is hard to say if Taiji will continue to make further concerts or new songs in the future, as the pandemic probably messed up his schedule & he is now in his early 50's. He himself did get Covid, but has since got back to normal.

The real pioneer is Jinyoung Hyun. Seo Taiji's music is garbage that only plagiarizes.
