It is very hard to pick just 10 top films, but here they are: 1. Fantasia (1940) 2. Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) 3. The Naked Gun trilogy* (1988-1994) 4. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) 5. Sunset Blvd. (1950) 6. Nights of Cabiria (1957) 7. Mulholland Dr. (2001) 8. The Wizard of Oz (1939) 9. Spirited Away (2001) 10. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) * Yeah, I know it's cheating.

If you're going to watch apocalypse now just watch the final cut. The extended gets exhausting and the ending loses it's power.

Stumbled on this a year late, but here's what I would say is my top 10 at this time (although this keeps changing, yet not that much) Johnny Guitar Wings of Desire Dead Man Mad Max: Fury Road / Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior - I often can't decide which one I like more Chimes at Midnight The Night of the Hunter Andrei Rublyov Stand by Me The General Tremors But I already feel guilty for leaving out the next 10, so it really depends how much these movies have been on my mind lately.

Fun video, which I guess is the point of Variety's list, as you suggested. I mean, one can't take too seriously any list that puts The General (not even Keaton's best; Sherlock Jr. is) @ #52. Of all the films on the list you haven't seen, 12 Angry Men is the one I would urge you to check out, posthaste. My list -- off the top of my head, mind you: Early Summer (Ozu, 1951) My Night at Maud's (Rohmer, 1969) Masculin féminin (Godard, 1966) The Lady Vanishes (Hitchcock, 1938) Z (Costa-Gavras, 1969) Sherlock Jr. (Keaton, 1925) Day for Night (Truffaut, 1973) Seven Samurai (Kurosawa, 1954) Kamome shokudô (Ogigami, 2006) The Apartment (Wilder, 1960)

Such an interesting list! The Apartment is so good, and Seven Samurai is my pick for best film ever. Your inclusion of Kamome Diner though! Wow! That really warms my heart, I adore Naoko Ogigami's work.

It was tough to do top ten, it feels like one of those things that'll always change, ask me again tomorrow and I might switch out a couple films (which I did after I pasted my choice and thought about it more) No order Do the Right Thing Holy Mountain About Elly I Vitelloni The Sword of Doom The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford A Face in the Crowd Catch 22 Volver To Be or Not to Be

I'm probably biased from being born in 1994 and having seen The Fellowship of the Ring when I was 7, but for me I've never seen anything that has topped the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the trilogy as a whole will always be slotted in at number 1 on my list I think. Although Lawrence of Arabia could maybe tie for first for me personally, I'd probably put it number 2 on my personal top 100 list. I definitely think a case can be made for most of these movies being worthy of a top 100 spot though, at least the ones I've seen. Hard disagree on Charlie Chaplin though lol, The Kid will always be his best in my mind.

Great video. Psycho is interesting as a number one I regard it as maybe the weakest Hitchcock one. It is the most iconic but that's not the list the list is meant to be the greatest. Off the top of my head animation wise Wall-e should be there. 3rd Godfather should be there; just as good as the first two. James bond wise I'd place the Pierce Brosnan ones above Goldfinger. A lot of the Best Picture winners were omitted which probably should be there.

This is not my top 20 of all time or anything like that, it's just some movies that haven't been included neither in the "variety" list or the "sight and sound" one (both the critics and the director list). I don't even think a thing like the 100 best films ever made list is an achievable thing to do, because the films, the countries, the eras, the genres are too many and the masterpieces in the history of the medium are certainly more than a hundred. So i put here just some of my favourite movies that are not in the aforemontioned lists. I don't know if they are amongst the best 100, 200, or 500 ever, they are just films that I really love. "The adventures of Prince Achmed", Lotte Reineger "The blue angel", Joseph von Sternberg "Freaks", Tod Browning "To be or not to be", Ernst Lubitsch "The life and death of Colonel Blimp", Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger "Children of Paradise", Marcel Carné "Nights of Cabiria", Federico Fellini "Witness for the Prosecution", Billy Wilder "The exterminating angel", Luis Bunuel "Il sorpasso", Dino Risi "The last picture show", Peter Bogdanovich "Harold and Maude", Hal Ashby "The wicker man", Robin Hardy "Picnic at Hanging Rock", Peter Weir "Blow Out", Brian De Palma "Once upon a time in America", Sergio Leone "Sonatine", Takeshi Kitano "Fallen Angels", Wong Kar-wai "Secrets and lies", Mike Leigh "Happiness", Todd Solondz

Don't you mean "Once Upon a Time in the West"? (By Leone)
@lucazacforever
@lucazacforever Жыл бұрын
@@linjicakonikon7666 No, I mean "Once upon a time in America", cause I thought "Once upon a time in the west" is in fact in the S&S list, both critics and directors if I recall well. "Once upon a time in America" is a curios case, cause in Italy is always mentioned as one of the best films of all time, and it's considered by many the greatest Leone's work, while abroad it's often overlooked, maybe because only recently the foreign pubblic has had the chance to see it in his entire lenght and in the form that italian pubblic has seen it from the 1908s.

Ikiru missing from top 10, imo, contender for the best film ever made I would say. Fantasia for sure would need a spot, I dont know if I think Lion King would belong there, my opinion tho. Original King Kong for the lower part maybe? Hiroshima Mon Amour, possibly, or La Dolche Vita instead of 8 1/2, for me atleast. Metropolis is certainly influential enough for the list, but I do feel like its mostly sound films for some reason. Night of the Hunter might not maybe it in top 100, but top 150 atleast, Green Mile as well I think could be somewhere in top 100. Paprika or Perfect Blue I feel needs a spot, but im biased, so...
@sassnick5757

a few more; Once upon A time in the West instead of Stagecoach, I would say. Stagecoach inspired Citizen Kane, I heard Orson saw it 100 times or so, might by why its there?
@RazorwireReviews
@RazorwireReviews Жыл бұрын
Yeah, silent films are not really represented very well. Metropolis should likely be there. Perfect Blue is brilliant, though I think Millennium Actress might be a touch better, and Tokyo Godfathers is my favourite Kon film. Haven't seen Paprika yet though! I seem to watch one of his films every two years, so 2023 is my year to check it out, haha.

I usually tend to revisit my greatest films ever list on Letterboxd in january so I will probably do that one of these days, but from my most recent one this was the top 10 and it will probably remain this way I reckon in 2023. 01. Mulholland Dr. 02. Psycho 03. Taxi Driver 04. There Will Be Blood 05. Trainspotting 06. Raiders of the Lost Ark 07. Idi i Smotri 08. The Shining 09. Pather Panchali 10. Le Cercle Rouge

My list of "greatest movies" is a lot different than my "all time favorite movies" but here's my top 10 movies I consider to be the greatest in the entire history of cinema! (ok not really cause there's a ton of movies I haven't seen but you get the idea) 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey 2. The Matrix 3. Jurassic Park 4. The Hurt Locker 5. The Shawshank Redemption 6. The Shining 7. The Lion King 8. The Godfather 9. Rocky 10. The Breakfast Club I apparently really love movies that start with "The"

Kind of a ridiculous reaction for a while: "Malcolm X, is that Norman Jewison?"... "Do the Right Thing, haven't seen it"... "12 Angry Men, I know I should see that"... "Le Samourai, don't know anything about it, have to see it"... "Paris is Burning, haven't heard of it"... "A Man Escaped, I have heard of it"... "Titanic, is that Spielberg?" It would probably be useful to have seen some movies to make a good reaction or commentary to this. At least half of what's on the list. At least you had some knowledge in the top half. As for the list, not a great one in my opinion. Kind of just OK. Surprised that Shawshank wasn't on there as it did seem like the sort of list that would have it. I mean, Bridesmaids over Shawshank?

I'm sorry but My Best Friend's Wedding should not be on a list titled The Greatest Films of All Time. Replace that with The Thing, Schindler's List or if they were looking for a rom com Chasing Amy (very different) or When Harry Met Sally.

Psycho might have the greatest scene of all time but isn't the greatest film of all time. Vertigo should be in the top ten while Saving Private Ryan and Pulp Fiction shouldn't even be on the list. The same for Titanic, which isn't even the best film about the Titanic. Did I miss Sunset Boulevard? The Maltese Falcon should have also been on there.
