They were a perfect duo. Alison needed someone to "discover" her and put her lyrics to music (like Midnight, Ode To Boy, Nobody's Diary, etc) and Vince needed a powerful voice to sing his lyrics (like Don't Go, Only You, etc) after he quit DM. Weird to think that Depeche Mode and Alison all grew up together in the same town. It's shame that they didn't get along too well because Yazoo was amazing and as much as I like Erasure, I'll take Alison's voice over Andy Bell's any day of the week.

Alison did a version of That Ole Devil Called Love that is really good. She, also had some hits of her own called Invisible, All Cried Out, Love Resurrection and Is This Love. Together Alison and Vince had another couple of other excellent songs, Nobodies Diary and Only You. Vince went on to have a very successful career with Erasure and did a side project with Fergal Sharkey who was the singer from The Undertones called The Assembly from which they had a song called Never Never which was very nice, however a little melancholy.

Love Yazoo. Vince Clarke ahs a huge number of brilliant songs to his credit with early Depeche Mode, Yazoo and then Erasure. When Alison decided she wanted to do a different style of music Vince went looking for someone who sounded enough like her that they fir the songs he was already working on and he ended up with Andy Bell whose tone is very similar. I saw Erasure live and they were fantastic. Check out O'Lamour or Sometimes and you'll hear how similar he was at that point.

Vince left Yazoo there's a documentary that he is saying it.
@alphaomega71912 жыл бұрын
@@billeliadis6771 - You might be mistaking Yazoo for Depeche Mode. Yazoo was more a case of her wanting to do other styles and them really not being able to communicate well at the time (both have said that since). Vince is apparently bad at dealing with conflict and when it happens he kind of packs his stuff up and quits if history is any indication - so he might have thought he left but she was already going. He then formed the Assembly for 5 minutes with Eric Radcliffe (Feargal Sharkey sang on the first track) and released something with another guy (Paul Quinn?) before forming Erasure. He left Depeche Mode over personality conflicts, Yazoo was more a case of both kind of going different sort of opposite directions, nobody really knows about the other two projects pre-Erasure as they were over so quick. It wasn't until Andy that he found someone who didn't really clash with his personality or musical tastes. Ironically when Yazoo reformed briefly they got on well because they wee older and more settled and confident.

They’re Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet. They broke up after their second album, and Alison went on to have a successful solo career. Vince, who was actually a founding member of Depeche Mode (whom you mentioned) but who left after their first album, went on to form Erasure, a highly successful synthpop duo (and my favourite band). So he and Alison were part of Yazoo from ‘82 to ‘83 after Depeche Mode and before Erasure.

Yeah this was so big that was still playing in the dance clubs in 85/86 when i first was going (and he was in Depeche Mode too by the way) Though this was on the radio a little bit in 82 it wasnt played too much. Cracked top 100 type song but it played it enough though that i remember it on the radio. But the same year in 82 when i was 14 Allison Moyet was pretty famous with her solo career. Her videos were on very heavy rotation for a couple years. Household name for 14 year olds that followed video show top 40 shows for sure.

The pipes on Alison Moyet are killer (vocal pipes, not being rude lol) "Only You" is a great slow dance song they had. And if they gave out a Ph.D for synthesizer, Vince Clarke would have one. I‘ve recently watched an interview with Vince Clark about Yazoo. He told how he used to prepare the songs until Alisons vocals were needed. She would come to the studio, doing her singing part and leave again. There was no interaction between them artistically. No socialising by having a drink in a bar e.g., nothing. They had a strange relationship as band members.

He teamed up with Alison and Yazoo was born. They only made 2 albums but WOW what albums they were! Arguably the 2 best synth-pop albums ever made and a huge inspiration for all the edm acts that followed and quite a few other artists too! Alison, voice of a generation, Moyet went on to have an extremely successful solo career and Vince, the synth king, Clarke, went on to form Erasure, with Andy Bell and years of worldwide hits followed! :)

I was a massive teen Yazoo fan, got their original albums on vinyl. Synth genius Vince Clarke was originally in Depeche Mode but left early on over musical differences, as u can see, to form Yazoo. Then he formed Erasure, but they were crap as he moved to far away from his pure synth roots to produce more mainstream pop. Successful but dire to his synth fans.👍🙏😎

As so many others have said, Alison Moyet has an incredible voice! Such power and a wonderful range and control. Listen to some of her solo stuff. She was a bigger hit solo than with Yazoo. Funny you should mention Depeche Mode. Vince Clarke (the keyboardist in the above video) started out with them but then they split as the rest of the band didn't see themselves as synth poppers like Vince. So he moved on, joined up with Alison Moyet and here's the result! They didn't last long either as Alison Moyet and he just didn't see eye to eye on their musical direction. Both Depeche Mode and Alison Moyet did much better going their own way but Vince Clarke finally found his place with Andy Bell and formed Erasure... I think they're still touring to this day.
