Kaleidos clearly pivoted to the Asian market. While they’ve fallen off with Western consumers, for all we know they’re killing it in Asia.

My hot take: indie brands do palettes for youtube creators reviews. Not that weird since its their largest chance of them getting pr, however I feel like a lot of youtubers have a specific taste where palettes have to be extremely pigmented and/or sparkly + swatch good to get attention or for creators to say its ”good”. I personally miss more subdued eyeshadows with smaller shimmer particles and medallics

Odens eye PR vs bought…, YES!! I honestly used to buy every indie palette that was hyped until I was so disappointed with Odens eye!The palette I have of Angie’s from her first collab has been completely hard panned since the day I got it. I think my Christmas palettes from last year are slightly better, but I have to scrape the shades with a brow spoolie to make most of the shimmers work for me. I bought all the singles they’d released, and was totally disappointed.

Oh the original Hela palette is one of my favourites in my whole makeup collection 😢 Never had an issue with any shades and it's the palette that got me hooked on the brand

@@marmelaota1703 that’s exactly what I mean! It seems like there has GOT to be a difference in quality for some of the palettes? It just makes no sense that some people got fantastic ones, and some of us have palettes that we have to scrape before each use?? I even got mine from the immediate first launch bc I just love Angelica!

The "breathing in powder" one cracked me up because I often wonder how many bullets of lipstick and tubes of lipgloss we've each eaten over time. I don't mind preorders at all. Esp since I know that small brands can't keep too much extra product on hand because that money is tied up, and over-ordering is expensive. I do understand where the person is coming from who said "there's no new color stories" because I often have a Miranda Priestly moment like, "grungy greens in an indie palette, groundbreaking....."

Miranda Priestley - perfect! As much as I love the grungy greens, after a few there isn’t a color story justification to make for buying another. (I say, owning waaaay too many eye palettes 😜)

Yes!!!! An Oden’s Eye purchase comparison, please! And under a different name if you can. When the singles first came out, I watched a bunch of videos and purchased 4 that looked different from one another so I could have nice variety. When they arrived, they all looked almost the same. Not at all what I saw from my trusted KZfaq peeps. 😮😩😭😭 I haven’t been able to think of the brand well ever since then.

I think Oden's Eye has consistency issues. I had a bunch from them and they were hit and miss. The first Legendary Diversa collab was good but the Saga of Freya palettes were meh. Also not a fan of the singles I purchased. I had to repress them with alcohol to get the excess binder out.

half of the shimmers from the first diversa collab hard panned for me in a year and are unusable even though they give a three year shelf life. Thats my only issue with OE.

Yes, please do a PR vs Oden's Eye purchase comparison on the next palette consumers complain about. All my favorite reviewers that I trust, love it. I have the Stone & Rock and Jewels & Jems. I was so excited to get them and they swatch great, but the performance is awful. I just don't get it, and I know reviewers I trust aren't out there just lying, so I truly don't understand.

So sorry for you!😢 My both palettes Stone & Rock and Jewels & Jem performed on me perfectly. I don’t use any another palettes rest of the summer from time I get them. And now I purchase 4 palettes from Christmas collection and they also are great! I have oily lids and very hooded eyes so use eyeshadow primer (nothing fancy, just Essence) and no glitter glue

I love Oden's Eye. Just have to use a tacky base for the special shades. Other than that, no problem whatsoever. One of my favorite brands! I'd still love to see PR vs. purchased comparisons please!!!!

For people in America multi chromes are maybe redundent. But I live in europe and the website monolith does not have a lot in stock. And multichromes from brands like odens eye or glamshop are not the same as terra moons, clionadh or devinah etc.

Perhaps my love of Clionadh, Terra Moons, and Devinah is why I am not impressed with Odens eye. Even Adept, while close doesn't compare to those brands for me.

For me, the issue I have with products made in China is mainly Chinese politics, labor right and animal right. I don't care about odens eye or any other brand producing in China, not bc I don't like them or think their quality would be bad but I want my products made by a person who gets paid for their work and has a actual weekend of free time

YES. "Hiding" it tells me they know and don't care about bad practices. When a brand is transparent, it feels like they're acknowledging the problem and addressing/taking care to do better with wages and conditions because they're actively opening themselves up to criticism.

Regarding Oden's Eye, I wanted to love them because I find the color stories, their collabs and the pricing to be very intriguing. But, unfortunately, the quality of my palettes have simply not held up, it's been less than a year and my Sea Talk (Lauren's collab) is not performing properly anymore, it has hardpan on ALL the shimmers (and I never use my fingers with them) and the tape trick is not enough. I also ordered the Christmas Eve palette as of Nov 11 and have not received it, I've tried sending them emails and DMs and have not gotten any response, and that's simply not okay. Their social media was also very deceiving regarding the black Friday sale and their swatches are NOT inclusive or realistic with darker skin. So, because all of that, the influencer's fave indie brand is somewhere were I will not be shopping from anymore.

I would love to see a video about Oden's eye. I want to enjoy all of their palettes, but I can't. They just don't work for me very well. I owned Red Dragon, Giant Wolves, Hela, Solmane II, Cat's Breath, and Freya palettes and they've all been decluttered. The Christmas palettes I love but the formula could be better. I even ordered the Silent Night Palette from Gourmande Girls because it looks a lot like the Christmas Eve Palette from Oden's Eye and I'm hoping the formula will work better for me.

Yes, Amy, do the PR/non PR Oden's Eye comparison, but please make sure you don't buy the products directly (ask a friend or someone else to do it for you) because they know you. Great idea! 😀

Kaleidos has definitely pivoted to ignoring their international customers and they are more popular in China and Korea now. Which is a shame , because they used to be more niche in China and their international customer base is what made them bigger, and now they are just ignoring us hahaha.

I'm just an ordinary makeup lover and I have about a dozen, give or take, OE palettes and I've kept and enjoy them all. I almost didn't buy the Snowman palette this Christmas because "people" were saying how bad it is - it's really not lol - I love it. I'm confused as to why the brand are getting this hate.

Oden's Eye is my favourite brand 😫 I just had issues with the big Norn palette and just with 1 shade (the red one). I'm seeing if I buy the remastered version at the end of the month and the only 2 palettes I'm missing

I think it all started coming up following the singles. Some were apparently really oily and PR receivers didn't discuss it (or maybe had no issues with theirs). The light pastels in the new Christmas palettes look like they need lots of packing on.

I have 5 and 4 of them are amazing and the 1 is the earlier quality, not bad but not as great as the newer ones! (Hela, Christmas last year are the newer formula for me )

Oden's Eye. I have several pallettes from them and something about their color stories really bothers me. I'm not even sure what it is but I'm always unhappy or just meh when I'm done. Also....All The Fallout. All I hear is how sparkly the shadows are but they seem so lackluster next to other pallettes. And then my undereyes are covered in sparkle at the end of the day. Ugh. And that new holographic eyeshadow in the xmas pallette took 3 days to get all the sparkle off my face. I never heard anyone say in reveiws how hard it was to remove completely 😢

I wanted so bad to love Odens Eye. But I've bought from them twice, and both times I've been so, so disappointed. My experience is so different than that of all the creators I love. I got the Alva years ago and thought the shadows were so dry and wouldn't apply right. Then this year I got both the Stone and Rock and Jewels and Gems palette because I thought maybe they improved their formula. But the mattes again are so thin and dry, and the shimmers are also thin and fall out worse than ANYTHING I've ever experienced. And the fallout sticks. I spend forever using tape getting it off and I still can't. I just feel so gaslit--I don't know how everyone else is having such a great experience when I find it the palettes so unpleasant to work with.

OE has a lot of fallout and i just cant get rid of it! The only palette i truly enjoy is norns palette and i quit buying from them.i have a couple of unique colors(and not great shimmers) in each palette and hence i keep them otherwise i would have decluttered them.For a long time i thought maybe i dont know how to use eyeshadow but then i used clionadh,terra moons and i dont have any issue with them.OE swatch nicely on hands but on eyes its a hit or miss.Some shades apply thick and look awful. So i dont really get the hype creators create when they say you have to buy from OE. Please compare and do a review !

I feel this way about Shine by SD. My single Golden Girl arrived cracked and sooo dry, but SeekingShift's was really soft and emollient. I posted about this in my insta stories and 5 people told me their Shine by SD arrived broken and dry too. Also, Shine by SD saw my poll question and did not say anything to me about my experience.

My Oden’s Eye palettes are great. I don’t own all of them, but the 10 or so I do have are well loved, well used and worth the coin. I keep some of them on my desk because they so easily fill “holes” in other palettes.

Heather Austin bought the big Norns Palette herself because she wanted the new reformulated version. And it was the really great formula she was always talking about. My Odenseye palettes (and I have a lot) are very good!! Even the older ones from Freya Saga and Norns collection perform pigmented and nice 🤷🏻‍♀️ I love them for the beautiful themes and I think toppers are also a great thing for every day! Not every shimmer needs a base.

Suggestion... if you order from Oden's Eye, order in a different name. I've heard about some indie owners pay attention to when a beauty influencer places an order. Now, don't go doing the comparison on my behalf. I've not tried Oden's Eye yet. 😊

@@AmyLovesMakeup Yes agreed. Or better yet ask somebody from a different address to purchase the product. This is what an influencer did for a product (not makeup) and found that the brand was indeed selling different quality products to consumers from what they sent to the influencer. I am anxious to see the result of your experiment. I will be putting on my lab coat while watching 🤣🤣 But this is truly a mystery because I love all my OE palettes and they perform so well on me using mediocre techniques. If you get the same awesome quality after the randome sampling then....what is the explanation? I want to truly believe that OE is above board. Thanks for your hard work. I am definitely confused on the Odin's Eye thing. I waited a long time before I finally made a purchase, but felt confident because everyone raved about the brand. When I finally tried it about a year ago, I found the shadows to be very smeary. They just didn't wear well through the day. So I don't get the hype. I do really love Kaleidos. I'm hoping that they have some interesting collections in 2024.

Maybe the comments saying they hate Odens Eye because they are made in China, is short form for I hate all makeup that is made in China, but they are referring to one of those brands, Oden’s eye, for xyz particular discussion. Also, I feel that most people that do not support made in China makeup is not racist, but because all makeup made in China, by Chinese law, must be tested on animals. My daughter is vegan, and will not use made in China products because of the animal testing. There is also the humans rights issue for made in China products, all products, not just makeup. There is a very good book about it, talking about the sweatshop firetraps of manufacturing in China. Something like 99%, some ridiculous number, of the products made in China are from this one city, and it is a death trap. I will look to see if I can find the book name….

I like the multichrome hot take. From a subjective standpoint multichrome can age just quickly as any other trend but for me it’s about being overwhelmed. Too many of anything makes me uncomfortable when it comes to makeup. Palettes with full row of multichromes intimidate me like Adept that usually has 2 rows for example. But also, I don’t know if I can call it phobia but it really feels like one - all shimmer/duo/multichrome palettes are just nightmare for me. {I have few thoughts about Consumerism so let’s see how well I can voice them 😂 I’m tired lol:} That’s why IMO being called influencer is the worst thing you can be called because of negative conotation it has in makeup sphere (people like Jaclyn, Mikayla and many other are great examples of influencer in that negative conotation - they are here only to make people buy stuff). It’s hard to not be influenced by anything in this age let’s be honest - but that’s the beauty of true content creators, they can influence you to use colours you would never use together or try new technique etc. It’s not always about new product if you as consumer are not looking at things in videos as new shiny things to buy. We saw big shift in that regard here on YT few years ago when people could do one review and haul after another but it stopped being enough once people realized it lacked any meaningfulness. With that challanges, bingos, tier lists, GRWM etc. became popular… but with TikTok bringing back the old format at much bigger scale we as community (brands included) fell victim to uncontrolled consumerism from before where brands feel need to push products out or they will be called irrelevant, creators don’t have time to create more of that meaningfull content or they become irrelevant and people suffer from FOMO. Some people think that just one part of that cycle is THE problem when all of it is interconnected. (+many, many other things that influence this whole cycle I just don’t see them as relevant enough to mention them right now) I’m sure there are so many mistakes. Lol I’m so sorry for any eye damage it causes but it’s midnight where I live and I can’t focus anymore ❤ thanks for the video ❤

Loved hearing everyone’s hot takes, yep we are definitely an opinionated community lol! But that’s why I love it. ❤ When it comes to the rampant consumerism, I feel like those of us who were on the KZfaq anywhere from 2016 to 2019 we already saw all the big beauty gurus shoving so many products down our throats acting like we needed to buy all of that stuff. and I know I definitely was buying a lot of crap I didn’t need or even really do much research into. Nowadays I try to make sure I actually want the makeup instead of just immediately buying at the height of the hype, I watch multiple reviews, follow people who are NOT just shoving products and telling us to “run don’t walk” or whatever they say just to try and make as much money in commissions or links or whatever. That’s why I like following people like you, Amy, because you definitely are not just like shoving all these beautiful eyeshadow palettes in our faces and acting like we’re missing out if we don’t buy. No, you just show us what’s good about the products, what maybe could be improved, you show us beautiful swatches and the color stories and give us the information we need to make our informed decisions and that is seriously why I love you and your content. This is also why I kind of avoid TikTok because I know that there are a lot of people over there who are literally just trying to sell sell sell - they don’t care if it’s actually a good product that they’re recommending to people. That’s not the type of person I personally want to put any time into watching and you are the COMPLETE opposite of that, so anyone who acts like you’re trying to shove all this into our face, well they’re not very smart then lol. Or clearly haven’t watched much of your content, because you’re not one of those shady influencers. PS you are always one of the reviews I consider when thinking of buying a palette and you’ve never once lead me astray ❤❤❤

I have a theory as to how some of the opinions of Öden’s Eye have evolved. A little while back, I watched a YTer’s makeup review videos and she was vehemently touting that OE’s makeup was no better than drug store and she didn’t understand why so many YTer’s hyped it. And, much of ÖE’s early makeup was not the best, but this video was after ÖE had begun changing their quality. I know she had a rather large following and I’m sure there are others that have claimed the same. Also, many times people forget that a product that works for some, may not work well for them. This can be more than just preference. It could be the products used such as bases, brushes, etc., skin type, techniques used, and yes, even eyeshadow will succumb to these factors. Öden’s Eye is one my favorite makeup brands, but I have been disappointed with the some of their eye palettes and formulas. This is due to my person preference and I don’t believe in calling them a bad brand because of it. For example, I think the shadows in the Flora palette are too thin and some don’t translate as dark on the eyelid as they look in the pan. There’s a formula they like to use for a topper shadow that appears hard pressed - it’s not actually hard pressed - the shadow formulation is kind of creamy and makes them more difficult to pick up, such as Eternal in Giant Wolves & Fauna in Planet Spirit, for 2 examples.

It bugs me that indie brands Give out so much PR and then don’t have any actual stock to sell! Glaminatrix I’m looking at you.. I live in Australia and have never been able to actually buy a palette from a local brand due to lack of stock.

if you do a "sent in PR vs. bought myself" video, consider ordering with a different email adress / name (maybe your partner's) just to be extra sure they brand didn't make adjustments!

I obviously do not get PR, but I have a plethora of OE palettes and I have enjoyed all the palettes I own from them. I just wonder if some folks and the way they play with makeup, maybe the formula isn’t compatible with the techniques they’re using? I don’t mean to minimize people’s experiences I just mean to say that with different formulas in my collection I play with/apply them differently based on formula.

I can't speak for anyone else who has issues with OE quality, but I have literally tried every technique I have heard of. I also agree that I doubt they are sending out a different formula in PR. My best guess is that either they have some serious issues with inconsistency at the factory (as in most palettes are turning out great, but a small but significant enough minority are not) OR (and I think this is the most likely) that some of us either have an eyelid shape or a skin texture which simply does not agree with the OE shimmer formula. No matter what I do, the fallout is insane and impossible to clean up and it continues to fall throughout the day. Maybe some of our lids just can't hold on to the texture of their shimmers but most people's can? I think their mattes are beautiful and their color stories are beautiful and I want so much to love their palettes, but I can't spend anymore on makeup where I can't use half the palette and have to find other workable shimmers to go with the mattes. Hope this ram le makes sense.

@@morganwu282 that makes total sense and if I experienced those things I too would be super frustrated and not want to continue to support a brand whose products aren’t meeting my expectations. I admittedly put down a glitter glue with all my shimmers no matter the brand just because I feel like it intensifies them, but it also conveniently minimizes my fall out. It’s totally possible you’ve already tried this method but if not, it could be worth a shot! 💖

@morganwu282 This completely makes sense! Shroud Cosmetics mattes do this to me, they end up all over my face no matter how little product or how careful I am blending. I only have BattyBean's first collab palette and haven't purchased from them since. If they did an all shimmer palette that would be a different story.

I'm glad you're talking about the bad experiences consumers are having with OE cosmetics. None of the other creators are and it makes me sad, like we are all wrong. The quality of my palettes purchased were good to begin with but the shimmers quickly lost that quality with hard panning. The early palettes really didn't have great quality but their blushes and lipsticks were good. Personally another reason I stopped buying them (on top of the quality issues and the odd swatch range) was because I hated how everything was wrapped in tight plastic. I didn't want to support the unnecessary waste created from a product going straight from the factory to the consumers door.

Hi Amy! Love your channel & I subscribed quite a while ago. I only started getting into indie eyeshadows at the end of last year so I'm a little late to the indie makeup party. LOL! You & several others have been extremely honest & helpful in your reviews, swatches, etc. for me to be able to come to whatever decision regarding making any purchase of indie shadows & thank you. 😊 Everyone has their own individual preferences as to what they do & don't like. Since there are so many available options out there, the liberating thought is (and if one has a mind of their own), we as the consumer have the choice to either go ahead & pull the trigger on making a purchase or not. Even if a reviewer/influencer does hype something up or they absolutely love it (nothing wrong with that), guess what? We still have the choice to buy it or not. It's so great these days that we even have the option of being able to check out online reviews, videos & actual photos (if available, of course) of what the shadows may look like since for many brands, we don't have the option to walk into a place to actually try them on. In general, online shopping is a risk anyway no matter what the item is so it's either one feels comfortable enough to take a chance on it or they don't. I research a lot & am very selective about what I buy so there's very few cases where I've purchased something online & ended up disappointed. So what. Can't win 'em all the time! But, I also know that I can either find a way to make those things work somehow, or give them away to someone who I know will really enjoy them. I believe some people either aren't researching enough and/or possibly making impulsive purchases, then receiving the items, ending up utterly disappointed/pissed off & then wanting blame someone else. It's ridiculous! I wouldn't be blaming you or anyone else for a risk I myself decided to take. Anyway, rant done. LOL! Keep on making great videos as always & Happy Holidays! 🎄🎅🎁

I never tap my brush, it's just wasteful, I get what I need on the brush and blend it out if necessary. I've also unfollowed a beautytuber that constantly tapped their brush every 10 seconds because it was SO ANNOYING, if they hadn't kept tapping the brush they would have gotten the colour pay out they were looking for more quickly.

I have found Oden's Eye to be really good quality. Flora is one of my favorite neutral palettes. It practically blends itself. The downfall of Kaleidos is sad because they were headed in a really cool direction. Their lip clay formula is still the absolute best. Maybe they'll come back with something amazing 🤷🏽‍♀️

The quality is definitely there as well as there are ways to get neutral looks with the colorful palettes too . I find them very useful with multidimensional purpose. I have 5 Oden's Eye palettes, ranging in time frame from OG Solmane to Angie's Hela, and I love them all. I have oily lids and hooded eyes so I do a lot of prep work with any eyeshadow and it lasts 10-12 hours. I also appreciate that they usually have just 1 multichrome, if any, to keep things more reasonably priced. A PR vs. Purchase would be interesting though. Thank you for sharing. 💚🩵💚🩵

i actually really enjoy my odens eye palettes. ive heard tho that ppl have issue with them. the one point i do see is though, that they need swatches on darker skin tones or fix their swatch lighting. i do think tho they do such a good price for the variety of finishes they offer.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! AMY!!!!!!!!!!! Please do that. Buy a few pallets from Odens Eye and see if they compare to the ones you got in PR. I have spent a TON of money on their pallets and here lately all of the ones I have bought have been HORRIBLE. I wanted to cry over the Christmas pallets. I was very upset. It literally felt like I was using old school 80's Cover Girl shadows.

I bet that there's NO difference between the Oden's Eye PR palettes that are sent to influences and the ones I've purchased myself as a regular consumer. Yes, I agree that few of their palettes aren't as awesome and perfect as their others BUT which brand has made overall perfection on EVERY palette and hold invictus in such category? NO ONE. Personally, the negative I find with both of their new Halloween AND Christmas palettes is based on their color story. I find them all over the place and too bright HOWEVER, theres nothing negative to say about their good quality and performance. Far from "trash" my friend! Every single brand flops big time, especially "top notch" commercial brands are the worst. They charge mecca prices for their mediocre cosmetics and the same ppl who critize indie brands spend their money senseless and blindly.

I've been only purchasing from indie brands recently. So I totally get what you are saying. Moreover, I just love Oden's Eye 😅 I have almost every palette from them (I'm just missing the jewel themed ones) and they are my favorites in my collection by far. The only issue I've had with OE are when I'm using Kaleidos eye primer. But it's just that their eye primer isn't good. Sometimes I even prefer go without primer and they are good.

You are the reason I started buying indie!! My very first indie palette was the Plain Jane from Adept. From there I’ve jumped in head first. And I love all of my purchases from each brand I try. I do try to keep a small collection of eyeshadow palettes tho. Only the absolute best of the best imo get kept. And I’ve also been a smart consumer and did research and thought on the purchases for much longer now. And if something sells out. Oh well. Wasn’t for me I guess. I have been really wanting to try the new buzzed indi brands like Unearthly, Ensley Reign, Simply Posh and Bella Beaute Bar. I have one OE palette, the Jewelys and Gems and I like fine. It’s not like ground breaking to me personally but I really like the color story.

I've purchased almost all of Odens Eye's releases and all of mine have performed perfectly. They're one of my top favorite brands and probably the brand I reach for the most. I guess different things work for different people cause I've seen those comments too and was confused lol. That said, I didn't buy the singles because I never reach for my singles so I skipped out. That's the release I heard the most negative reviews about 🤷‍♀️ Those Christmas palettes are the only thing I've used in a month though. They're perfect to me lol

Hi Amy, the Oden’s Eye quality I would assume is the same. I have three palettes so far and some of the single multi-chromes and love their quality, they are one of my favorite indi brands. I have never had any issues with their stuff.

I totally rely on reviews because for most brands I have to pay a lot for shipment, tax and customs fee. If I am not sure I‘ll love something I won‘t buy. That does not mean the creator has to love the product as well, but I need to see the product used and a description of the quality.

I think we should come to the realization, through all of our separate experiences, that Oden's Eye formula must not be consistent. Perhaps poorly regulated, poorly overseen in production and execution. Reading all of your comments have made me less likely to bet on that roulette in the future.

The thing about Oden's eye is that all of the influencers do a video at the exact day and hour even, so it looks a bit suspicious. I just bought the jewel and gems palette and it will be my first so I have great expectations :o)

I've wondered, since my experience with Kaleidos, whether some brands were doing one run in great quality for PR and the early adopters and thereafter future runs of the same palette in lower, cheaper, quality. My Kaleidos palettes didn't perform remotely like the youtubers' seemed to, whereas generally I can get similar results especially when following trustworthy youtubers. Interestingly, Marlena of Makeup Geek commented that when a brand goes into a retail outlet the quality often drops to keep the profit margin ... certainly my experience was that Juvias Place quality tanked when they started selling in a large retail outlet.

Just adding in the odens eye debate- I have 3 palettes from them! Gem = Great Og Helloween = Great Trick or Treat Helloween = Decent but not *amazing*. If there’s any of your friends that use odens eye that have a dodgy one- like I wouldn’t be surprised if it was as little as 1%. Might be worth surveying about it though! (Also to be fair - it’s a very human thing to be quiet when thing works as expected but to be much louder when it doesn’t)

I experienced an indie brand this year who never answered my emails or DM's to find out why my order that was placed a month ago never shipped, when I purchased the 2 9 pan pallette's they were in stock. This kind of thing for me leaves me to wonder if it was an oversite and should I even attempt to place another order, as their new 9 pan is not available yet but I really want to purchase. I have two Oden's Eye palettes, one from the Perfect World collection and the Christmas Eve palette. I will say there is a dud matte shadow in my Perfect World palette that doesn't blend and build as well as I hoped but I was impressed with the formula enough to buy the Christmas Eve palette. I love the quality of the Christmas Eve palette (although there is one lighter blue shade that takes longer to build than the rest of the shades imo). I love their textured looking shimmers but it is the only brand where I felt like the glitter fallout was an issue. I typically don't mind glitter fallout but Oden's Eye definitely has a noticeable amount and I am a Pat McGrath fan for reference. I use a glitter primer but I try to tilt my head back when I apply too to minimize it. There are other indie brands people rave about where I don't get the hype so I'm guessing its a preference for certain types of formulas. I prefer a buildable matte to an extremely pigmented pressed pigment.

I'm really intreagued...could you do a pr vs bought oden's eye review...specifically on one of the latest Xmas palettes which I found a lot of people complaining about specifically & that is the reason why I opted not to purchase them this year, even though I love the softer colour story of them. I have personally not had any issues with any of their previous palettes, and I have all their colabs & more, all purchased myself as I am not an influencer BTW absolutely love this eye look❤

I would appreciate that Oden’s Eye video because I’ve only purchased one Oden’s Eye palette and it was the Giant Wolves w Annette’s makeup corner…and one of the shimmers hard panned within the month. And the other shimmers were fine but Hati doesn’t really pickup anymore. And I’ve seen you and other influencers/content creators talk about how much you love their palettes and I love their color stories but I have been hesitant since then to make another purchase from them. I didn’t reach out to their customer service though because those were limited edition palettes and it had sold out and I wanted to keep the palette cause every other shade seemed to work just fine.

I don't mind all of the multichromes because it gives a variety to shop from. There may be a brand someone doesn't support, or terrible customer service, or they're always out of stock, or the price/shipping is too much or you don't like that specific formula. It just gives more options which I appreciate.

Oden's Eye has the WORST customer service. The way they speak to customers that have issues is really, really bad. I think mostly only influencers have good experiences. The quality seems to be inconsistent and if that's brought up to them, they blame the customer's skill level. I won't purchase from a brand if they won't replace a shadow that arrives broken and shames customers via email with complaints.

The conspiracy theory with OE is that this is a Chinese Brand. The brand has a Swedish address, but it is Chinese owned. I don’t think the reason some people are upset is based on race. Just my opinion.

Idk, I've purchased Oden’s Eye and it's been good? Only purchased 2 palettes but don't see any issues. Maybe theres a batch inconsistency thing, maybe pr palettes are better... maybe people just decide they're the brand to hate on? I don't know. Also yeah of all the youtubers youre one of the few I can count on to be realistic and not tell people they "need" anything. Also on the multichrome comment - as others have said, maybe the market is saturated in North America but like, in the UK we just don't get that variety.

Tapping off the brush take and inhaling powder? I don't do that. I have a little dish that I dip my brush in and then I will use what's there when I'm going in and creating the look so nothing gets wasted. AND this method prohibits you from inhaling what's flying around. Another thing, it's hard on your brushes! I see how hard some people tap their brushes and wow! 😲 Imagine doing that over and over agai ... that brush is taking a heck of a beating, if you think about it. And I'm sorry but my brushes cost a lot of money! ( not everyone but a lot of them ... my faves) personally don't have the money to replace them. The Dollar tree has these dishes you can get them for $1.25 and they work like a charm. Will admit, sometimes I forget but once you get in the habit of doing it it comes naturally! 😉

Hi, @SimplySteph, can you please explain further about your technique? What do you mean that you dip your brush into a dish? How does the eyeshadow powder get from the pan to the dish? and any time there's transfer of powder out of a pan (or a loose or pressed face powder vessel), powder particles get into the air, so I don't see how to escape that.

I am one of the people who are not in love with odens eye. I honestly can’t pinpoint why though. It’s not that I don’t like their formula but I’m also not in love with it. I can’t say I’ve ever gotten a bad palette and actually enjoy the snowman a few of the Christmas palettes. I feel like I’m always confused a bit my the color stories and have to reach for multiple palettes. I also wish they offered some shimmery topper shades. That’s the formula that I miss most from Kaleidos.

I remember I first learned about Kaleidos through Angeschka, the Deep Sea Luster palette was the palette of my dreams for a long time, I had never seen such dream-inducing shades! I was so sad that so many people didnt get their hands on it but I was so hopeful because I thought they were going to pop off as a brand. I only bought that palette and that’s it, they’ve had some good stuff but it’s mostly really boring stuff (imho) I really hope they come back strong and make dreamy stuff like that Deep Sea Luster palette!!

I own a lot of Odenseye pallets and love them and I am sad I missed out on the Christmas pallets. I think brands like Odens eye would not send different pallets to influencers,why would they spend money on different formulas. I don't like when people complain about things made in China brands like Coach are made there and they are very high end . Thanks for a great video Peace from Canada ❤

I love indie brands, I prefer them over mainstream brands. I’ve declutterred most of my mainstream palettes. I just prefer the multi/duochromes over the basic traditional shimmers.

I have to stick up for Oden’s Eye. (I’ve never received PR.) My Christmas palettes are incredible, I love every palette I have from them. I love their matte formula, the shimmers are my favorite ever, the formula has staying power and is pretty easy to work with! I guess there could be quality discrepancies in batches, but I’ve never gotten a dud in three years of ordering from the brand. The OE website swatch photos are terrible and unrealistic, it’s true. As for “made in China”, if someone doesn’t want to order items from China, that is fine. It might be a moral issue rather than racist one. But it’s a VERY difficult decision to uphold given how much is imported. Furthermore, some brands manufacture in one country and just assemble in PRC, so that’s a consideration too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love multichromes, and maybe I’m biased bc I own a lot of clionadh so I favor them, but sometimes I want shimmers, metallics, irridecents, etc. from indie brands. It feels good owning independently owned brands, but I don’t want to feel like I have to go to mainstream brands for shimmers when indies could do it better. Also, why not create variety of formulas in a palette? That gives you so much space for play, for future releases.

The fact is that Oden’s Eye had very unprofessional attitudes with two smaller influencers that I personally follow. They openly shared their experience. Since then, I take everything with a huge grain of salt when it comes to this brand. Anyone remembers the single shadows launch? Yeah, some of the shades had issues and they did not address anything. Recently, the whole Angie Nyqvist “gang” is turning its back against one indie makeup brand with no clear reason (Sugar Drizzle) and I HATE, HATE this sort of mobster behavior. After some research on Reddit the reason is that the owner was rude… Are you kidding me? Communicating via email can sometimes be very challenging because you can come of as rude. I know this from personal experience. Treating someone like a number 1 criminal, and cancelling someone because of being apparently rude is quite exaggerated. It’s not like we have another Jeffree Star or Kat Von D in here. Stop this sort of behavior. It speaks volumes about you, not the indie brand you try to attack.

@AmyLovesMakeup, if you are gonna buy from Oden's eye to verify what happens in reality, my advice to you is to ask someone unknown in the beauty community (but known by you) to buy the stuff. If they see, that it is you, they will send you the good (the PR) items. You need to receive those items through someone else, with a different address. Believe me, there is clearly a difference. The Jewels and Gems palette has been a favorite from many that receive PR. However, the shimmers in that palette are not good at all. BadtotheBrow made me buy that palette with her review. She loves specially two shimmer shades (Exhilaration and Rhapsody). In her palette, those seem to be so foil and creamy. In mine, however, Exhilaration is just a bad quality black matte with violet shimmer (but more a shimmer than a sequin matte). It is not a sequin matte, of course, but, then, what it is? The same happens with Paradise. The Rhapsody shade is meh. Gourgeousness is literally separate shimmers going everywhere. Not shinny at all! Also, in the old Norns, everybody was crazy about the last row of shimmers and the turquoise one was an emulsion in mine. It separated into phases and was unusable. The violet one was really simmilar. Also, in that palette, many shadows hardpanned while using them for the first time (the brown shimmer, but is special the red one). Mattes were okay. Mattes from Jewels and Gems are also fine. The only shimmer that works in my Jewels and Gems palette is Swoon. I explained them the issue and asked for a replacement. Long story short, they didn't accept. Neither wetting the brush and/or using glitter primer work with those shimmers. They are so different from those that I see on KZfaq. Regarding Red Dragon palette... If someone wanted that palette and missed it, do not worry, you only missed the opportunity to see how you threw your own money in the trash. All of the shimmers look alike; and, are stickly and chonky. Some mattes were patchy as hell and the others just blended away into nothing. The only palette I thought was actually good quality was the original Hela palette and the green shimmer and the mattes from Urd. I have been so tempted by Hey Reinder palette, but after Jewel and Gems, I skipped it, since if that is the new formula, then, no thanks.

I love multi chromes but ngl, you don't need that many. I prefer them as singles because I can get the ones I'm interested in from brands that I really love the formula. I've only had one meh experiences with Odens Eye and that was with one of the single shadows I ordered from them. Otherwise, I love their formulas. I've noticed that people generally either love or hate their formulas. I totally understand that. For me, I always see and hear great things about Bella Beaute Bar but their mattes just do not work for me no matter what. They're super thin and literally melt off my eyes within the hour, and that's if they even last long enough to still be there when I'm done with my makeup. I've talked to other people with the same experience, so at least I know I'm not alone 😂 I love their color stories, packaging, and shimmers (which are spectacular) but the price is not worth it when I can't use any of the mattes.

The ingredients listing! It's so easy! Thus so annoying! I had to email Ace Beaute to ask for ingredients. I really like Tropical Vibes but I don't want to do work while purchasing something. Yes to the OE conspiracy. I'd love to hear more about that. I do feel like I'm gambling every time I make a purchase from a new brand, and that's why I have brand loyalty. Clionadh, Viseart, Lisa Eldridge, Athr, VB, and Ace Beaute have all delivered stand out products with good customer service. Oden's Eye and Alter Ego......eh. I don't know if its my preferences, taste, something! In a world of great indie brands, I wasn't wowed, and I wont be purchasing again.

I would love to see the Odens Eye comparison video - I like their matte shadows, but their shimmers always immediately hardpan for me, even when I use clean brushes, just the same way that I do every other shimmer. I can't figure out how to use the shimmers more than once without them getting major hardpan.

I did not like odens eye. I had like 3 palettes n they were garbage. I got the merry xmas palette this year n it blew my mind. I think they did change their formula n told no one

I really don't understand the OE hate train. It feels to me like people don't want to believe many people really liking something. ("It can't be true that all of them like this! They must be paid off!") Or maybe they had uber hyped expectations on their things and then "only" got an eyeshadow palette. I saw another creator give them a harsh review, because they had mispellings in the shade names. ("This has happened repeatedly and is really unprofessional." Geez! Okay, please you do a brand with a tiny team or just by yourself and see how many mistakes slip through the process. It's easier said than done!) I really don't get it at all! Just wild!!
