Evil Woman was a cover, not written by them. It was not on the American release. Im guessing it was an attempt to get on radio in England.

The "satanic thing" was just an aesthetic choice. Across from where they were rehearsing was a theater showing a Boris Karloff horror movie called "Black Sabbath", and they got the idea of doing "horror music" just like movies did "horror films". which were always popular. They even took the band's name from the movie. That choice shows how huge this band's influence has been, since that "satanic/horror" theme has been redone by almost every metal band since. Even the hand gesture everyone uses today came from Black Sabbath. Incidentally, "Evil Woman" was a cover song that originally only appeared on the UK album version, while the US album contained "Wicked World". Wall of Sleep is about dying and awakening in the afterlife in heaven. Really, all of Sabbath's (Butler's) lyrics were very positive in terms of God. The “satanic shit” is just an aesthetic thing. There are certainly bands out there that have an actual satanic agenda, but they’re a very very small minority. The imagery and even lyricism referencing anything satanic is meant to shock, think of it like a horror film. It puts the ugly and terrifying on display and says “hey look at this” to go against the grain. It’s that rebellious nature of rock/metal music.

I kind of lost touch with their music after the first four albums. I always suspected the were branded "evil" because war pigs spoke too much truth to power. They needed to be tainted to lessen their influence. They were asked if they were a satan group so they put out the song "After Forever" in response to show where they were at with that.
