Two reasons they bend over one it makes you a smaller target two it changes the angle of the draw so you are not drawing straight up but at an angle which shortens the draw stroke and can bring the barrel of the gun on line with the target quicker

He did "Stoned" at the CMA one year and brought the house down. Producers asked him to do uptemp song and had no idea what he would do. Brought the house down, but the live video has been hard to find here at times.

Love when he includes where he's from ( Eastern, Ky)!! I'm from Eastern, Ky and he's from where my Mom was raised! The coal mines is all that's basically there! He always throws a free concert in Paintsville,Ky (where he's from) every time he goes home! He's a exceptional person as well as entertainer!

They bend over like that because it keeps their arms in a flex position so they can shoot faster instead of standing straight up and then having to bend to grab the gun and shoot .So in other words less movement to shoot fast. Bend to make for a smaller target and also for quicker reactions. Hands closer to your guns and quicker pull. Same as in sports, easier to work from a power base.

They bend over like that because it brings their arms closer to their gun making a shorter distance making for a potentially quicker draw. drawing a revolver is all about the quick elbow moment first then the wrist. But that squatting is mostly just a movie thing.

Cowboys/Shooters lean forward during a shot for a better stance. The recoil is better absorbed. You also have to take into account that those old Colts they were shooting were large caliber pistols. They pack a punch.

Don Gann I’m guilty of not practicing drawing enough. As is most of the avid shooting world. Even law enforcement lacks on this discipline to an extent. When talking the professional realm - most all “professions” that carry firearms don’t practice enough. Gotta imagine how skilled the cowboys were to have to defend yourself so many times over and over and over again. So with that in mind. Their techniques can actually teach us. Even Law enforcement has adopted the draw and fire from hip two rounds in less than 2 seconds. That’s how they did it back in the mid 1800s. It’s proven to be effective.

I think the crouching for a showdown is more of a Hollywood thing. It makes some look more menacing. It might help with the wrist strain when drawing your gun. As for turning sideways. That makes you a thinner target as long as you don't have a BIG belly.

Bending over before a duel has 2 purposes. 1 to make you vital target a little smaller and 2 by not standing completely straight up you target placement and grouping is better on your shots. Most professional handgun shooters will stand with feet shoulder width apart and a slight squat. Sorry so long
