I don't know why Dimash smiled at the end, but it looked to me that this was that one time when Dimash wasn't 100% sure about audience reaction to his "play" or what I think of as vertical runs. Luckily they accepted him. One might think that it is unnecessary in the song, but considering his development that followed I am sure glad he took the chance.
