You notice when Vex asks "He has to reload sometime, right?" - he actually doesn't reload. In every other time, they've made a point to show him reloading, but here, he never does. And I have to say Esme Creed-Miles is absolutely brilliant as Cassandra. The biggest role outside of Vox Machina and the Briarwoods, and arguably more complex than the Briarwoods. And she nailed it perfectly. All the casting was great, but she really stood out for me.

At 9:25, the joke is, Liam (Vaxildan) is WELL KNOWN, for starting deep, emotion conversations, getting people feeling things, then saying, "I walk away". Leaving them with heavy thoughts. So this was a little gag at Vax's expense.

What I really love about this series as an adaptation is that while, yes, it doesn't follow the plot of the campaign beat for beat and some things are changed, it has all the most important things about the streamed story: they stayed _very_ faithful to the characterisation of the characters (which, duh, the people who created and played the characters are the people in charge of making this) and the overall feeling of the show and story. And _that's_ something that's very hard to do unless you understand the story you're trying to tell on a very intimate level. Which they do, having lived it.

the entrance of the Conclave was cinematic quality in the campaign. imagine the scene where Tony and Rhodie are being surrounded by the Hammer drones, how they fall into frame, and the "thump!" they make,.... but cranked up to 11, and with dragons. and instead of an arboretum, it's the whole Cloudtop, and the camera is at street level looking up 100 meters onto the tower. pure "well, we're fucked" moment.

The beginning of the campaign sessions on Geek & Sundry actually has a story arc that is not in the animated show, and then transitions into the Briarwood arc after, but the killing of the Blue Dragon is referenced, but happened during the campaign before they were putting sessions online.

Watching Critical Role from the beginning is great for building the history and foundation but understand that the beginning is the roughest part to watch. It's where the worst of the production quality is, hence sound issues, players not really knowing how to behave in the new setting, and that other character can be very polarizing. I think he's there for like 27 episodes. Just to throw it out there, Campaign 2 is also another good starting point, particularly if you don't want spoilers of Campaign 1 before season 2 of the animation. You also get to start at the very beginning of a whole new story with brand new hero's to be, and the production is quality is amazing.

Legend of Vox Machina is a fun alternate version of what happened in campaign 1. I think the only thing in this episode I object to is Percy thanking Scanlan for destroying the pepperbox. He was furious. Keyleth had to cast Hold Person on him to keep him from jumping into the acid for it. He was having a nervous breakdown about how expensive it was to make. Cassandra tried to slap him out of it and he responded with 'You were never mother's favorite. She told me.' (Though Matt retconned that he couldn't have talked while under the Hold Person) I think Taliesin still holds a grudge.

The major difference there is Percy was able to keep control in the game, and never turned the gun on his friends. It makes sense that in this version when he was so close to killing them all that he would actually be grateful for the intervention.
@lokithecat7225

The Gun scene was a major Snafu. Friends (a level One spell) makes someone treat you as a Friend, (you get advantage on Charisma Checks) which Sam used to get the Gun from him. It also makes you "Hostile" towards the person who cast it. There is no way that Percy, who basically sold his soul to create the Weapon, which probably had "Magical" ties to him, would give it away with a Persuasion Check. That is "I Persuade the Merchant to give me all of his Goods" level of nonsense.
@cryofpaine

@@cryofpaine It's been a long time, but as far as I can recall he never let anyone "Inspect" or hold it, as he was paranoid about the design being copied... And I think Scanlan was talking about how it needed to be destroyed before it happened. Which still leaves the issue of him not attempting to Kill Scanlan immediately after, as Friends makes him "Hostile" (RAW) and Scanlan just destroyed something he basically sold his Soul to make.

The episodes before the Briarwood arc are a little rough but they are filled with wonderful gems and a TON of important world lore and a lot of important, delightful, and formative NPC relationship moments with Gilmore, Allura, and Kima in particular (And Jarret I think). And honestly Orion isn't that bad at first, he sort of slowly grows as a problem.

What I don't think you'll be ready for are the emotionally heavy moments that happen later in the campaign, if they get included, such as retrieving a certain set of armor. Doing so is the reason why ravens are included in the intro. By the way, here's a fun fact: Matt Mercer voices Orthax, the shadow demon. And, girls, if you want to close out Season 1 of TLOVM properly, do a reaction to the Kickstarter campaign, which is how this animated show came to be! as Vegeta stated, the initial goal was reached within minutes. I believe the 3 day mark was when they had their live hangout to promote the campaign. at that point all their initial stretch goals had been reached too. I believe that happened within the first day too.

@@davidbergfors6820 Best part was they kept pumping out more and more stretch goals for sums that they thought were ridiculous...and were blown past time and time again. They asked for $75k and got $11 million. That 2nd day video where the crew opened up by just sitting on the couch absolutely speechless at what was going down was priceless. *Nobody* could have predicted the sheer amount of "shut up and take my money" the Critter community was about to throw at this project.

If you are getting in to campaign 1 Would recommend watching from episode 28 , there's some stuff ( pretty uncomfortable) that happened before that the player had to leave Or watch campaign 2 to meet whole new characters and more experienced cast and another beautiful story

Or watch from the beginning. Yes there are some production quality issues and yes there are also some problematic situations with one particular player but a lot of good stuff happens there too and with the exception of one episode the bad stuff is usually contained. You can alsomstill skip an episodes or parts of an episode if they get to annoying. And besides of story related stuff it really is a delight to see how they react to their sudden and somewhat unexpected success. The first T-Shirt sell is a really wholesome moment.
