He's not innocent in all this by any stretch of the imagination but I read it as Sol wasn't strong enough to save both and chose Osha because of whatever weird attachment he developed rather than he just didn't care about Mae.

What I feel like gets glossed over rather quickly is the fact that the humans have done x-rays and autopsies on these organic cylons, and literally everything about them appeared human. Brain, intestines, lungs, all of that stuff was unidentifiable as not being from a regular human being. They clearly have emotions and free will, and psychologically are the same as humans. Baltar had to whip up a magical cylon detector to be able to tell the difference. The Pegasus crew didn't have a cylon detector. In every way, 6 appeared human to them. And they still did the horrible things they did to her. For Admiral Cain to allow that sort of thing to happen under her command says everything you need to know about her. She failed as a leader. Imagine being a woman on the Pegasus, knowing their fellow shipmates were going down to the brig to do that.

21:50, the producer of the show Ronald D. Moore said the actions that Admiral Caine took after the attack were not part of the Colonial Fleet handbook. So the summary executions, agrressive interrogation techniques is not part of their standard operating procedure. Caine is just wilding out because she is the Supreme Commander of what's left of the military. There is no higher military authority than her so whatever she thinks is legit goes.

It's weird how much Phantom Menace Qui Gon and Attack of the Clones Obi Wan is in Sol in this episode and how icky he makes it feel. I saw someone (Alex @ SWE) really pick apart the comment from Inara that Sol was projecting onto Torbin. I kind of wonder if he does that all the time. His first line is the, "your eyes can deceive you," one I think which seems to fit. I think there's another actor we haven't seen yet (maybe he voiced Bazil?). David Harewood (Martian Manhunter on Supergirl) still needs to show up. My guess is that the sith hits the fan and this erupts into a scandal and he plays that anti-jedi senator or he plays Qimir's master. Can't wait for TCW. I hope you can make me appreciate a frog and droid arguing about free will in the middle of the desert. You guys got me out of team, "Shut up, Wesley."

18:06, all of that aggressive interrogation was approved by Admiral Caine. A broken heart and wounded pride will make monsters of us all. Pegasus Six didn't deserve it and Sharon who is pregnant damn sure didn't deserve it. Episodes like this definitely helped earn this show the Peabody Award so timely social commentary. This was all broadcast during the early days after 9/11 and America's War on Terrorism.

16:13, during the original run of the show a tv critic used to call Lee and Kara the twins. Basically, they act more like siblings both yearning for Daddy Bill's attention and approval. Once I read a review I couldn't unsee it. So I guess Admiral Caine is the crazy Auntie.

By no means does EVERYONE have to like it, but as someone who likes reaction content watching people who are clearly REALLY digging it is so much more enjoyable.

As much as I've enjoyed moments here and there, I think the writing of this show has really lost me. The big hidden conflict in this episode just chalking up to a series of accidents, misquotes, and misunderstandings doesn't feel earned by the narrative. Plus the show is taking advantage of the fact that nobody REALLY knows how the Force works anyway, leading to a lot of handwaving. Fights are cool though

This is when I started noticing less namless crew on the Enterprise and only like half the main cast. Im guessing its cuz they knew that this was wrapping and DS9 was already well into season 2. Also the first TNG movie was in theaters about 8 weeks after the series finales, cant imagine they had much money left for the show.

There is a reason Jedi are supposed to avoid focusing on attachments as part of assuming their role. And it’s been clear from the start that Sol is not good at this and the other Jedi are willing to cover for him. Apparently one knocked-over lantern caused that whole building to explode. Even by the standards of the Star Wars universe, that’s a safety fail.

This show is so good! I remember in the beginning, I thought probably Sol didn't take active part in whatever went wrong with the Night Sisters, but nope it was his fault. We don't know everything going through his head and heart, but wow was he irresponsible. And assuming the worst about the Sisters -- moral panic much? My feelings about Sol have changed so much. Good job, show.

I've heard people say that we really didn't learn anything in this flashback that we haven't known before, but Sol killing her mother is pretty freaking substantial. And, I feel like a lot of people were presuming that his role in the events really wasn't that much...

The moment where Sol kills Aniseya is super interesting. It's established earlier in the episode that both Mae and Osha are like one person split into two, meaning you can't discern them by using the force. When Mae runs out screaming for help, Sol makes the assumption that it's Osha, because he convinced himself that she's in danger and he needs to save her. So when he sees Mae turn into smoke like Aniseya he panics and attacks Aniseya. Very interesting, indeed.

5:47 I liked how chunky it looked. Like an older model would be. 18:13 I was surprised by this. From ep3 I assumed she’d be the aggressor because she was doing the whole we appreciate your “cooperation” thing but it was Sol and Torbin. 21:04 they are here all week. Be sure to tip your servers… 21:22 good point about Mae. I was wondering about that. I assume it was a quick spur of the moment decision but I’m curious why Sol didn’t try to force hold the girls rather than the bridge. Enjoyed your reaction as usual. Looking forward to the finale and your reaction to it. Hopefully they don’t go short on time so they can give us more story to wrap things up.

How is she innocent to Sol, before she said those words? Didn't it look like she was possibly killing Mae, by taking her life force, in that moment? Or maybe he should have recognized that they were combining into dark mist Transformer -of no real threat lol

It definitely seemed to me that he misunderstood the situation. He also seemed to assume it was Osha, not Mae who was standing there, and he was already convinced that Osha was in danger.

Totally, in the moment, and even with our 3rd part perspective it looks like an attack on Mae. Sol stepped in to defend Mae. Perfectly reasonable assumption in the moment.

This entire incident comes from Sol's assumption that the children were in danger just because the coven was witches instead of Jedi.

@@JeshuaSquirrelThe women self-identified as a coven of witches, therefore Sol made a correct deduction. Presumably, there’s a negative connotation for witches in the Star Wars galaxy, but the coven chose to use that word instead of something more benign and positive, like a “Sisterhood” or community of “Sorceresses” or incorporate their “Thread” belief into their name, like “Threadweavers”. Furthermore, Mae explained that Ascension involved “walking through fear” and involved “sacrifice”. Word choice matters. It was clearly written to cause the Jedi, Sol in particular, to misinterpret the Ascension ceremony as a human sacrifice. The problem is that ALL of the dialogue is stilted and contrived to cause misunderstanding. The Jedi sliced into the elevator instead of “ringing the bell” or announcing their presence in any number of ways. The Jedi didn’t explain why they were on the planet or what they were investigating. Whether the witches believed the Jedi or not is another matter. Instead, the Jedi immediately inquired about the children, making the worst possible first impression. TBH I cannot blame the Jedi because it’s the WRITERS fault. They either don’t know how to write how real people speak and behave, or they’ve contrived these scenarios to cause misunderstandings wherein everyone assumes the worst and the result is tragic. Obviously, a writer can literally make anything happen in a story, but a good writer can articulate character motives and sensible situations that the reader/viewer can understand and empathize. Whereas everything that happened in this episode was a facepalm!
