I concur wholeheartedly, one of the greatest rock bands we've had the joy of listening to for almost FIFTY YEARS! This song IS an absolute masterpiece and the Ritchie & Ronnie combo is an amalgam of two geniuses that parted far too soon.

When you hear older people saying "they just don't make good music anymore" - remember, they have been listening to stuff like this for decades so it sets the bar pretty high. (BTW - I love a lot of new music) Masterpiece is the right word for this song, and I think you did a great job getting the message on the first listen.

This song is probably the one that gives me the most chills, and the most intense ones. This solo is the definition of emotional expression in music, idc what anyone says, but no one can touch this in our times. I was born in the wrong generation too, definitly

Thought you'd really like this one Sarah. It's a Rainbow favorite of mine. I consider it one of their masterpiece songs. It has a very Middle Eastern sound to it I take the meaning as if you follow the devil and give in to his temptations, you'll have hell to pay.

Great reaction to a beautiful song. Dio and Blackmore were so good together. The song really pulls the listener into a world of beauty and danger! A real classic.

During the actual recording of "Gates Of Babylon," the band held a seance, something very much in character for the enigmatic Mr. Blackmore. As usual, lead singer Ronnie James Dio wrote the lyrics and Blackmore the music. David Stone, who played keyboards, is said to have written parts if it but was not credited.

A classic by Rainbow w/ Ronnie James Dio... However, Rainbow did go for a pop rock sound in the 80's w/ vocalist Joe Lynn Turner (Songs like 'Street of dreams' ... 'Stone cold'... etc. were not heavy rock) Dio, on the other hand, got heavier in 1983 w/ 'Holy Diver' and beyond... 🤘🤘

Rainbow had to go commercial because it’s a business and you have to stay profitable or you go bankrupt. I loved Dio in Rainbow but to be honest I got bored of the subject by his second album with Sabbath. Artists need to evolve and change otherwise it gets repetitive.

@@thetruthhurts6652 Yeah, Kiss was profitable BEFORE they went commercial w/ disco in 1979... so that's a junk excuse. Same w/ Metallica when they did 'Load' in 1996... evolve? Yes? Put out crap music? NO! Rainbow was profitable for sure w/ Dio... Blackmore just wanted a bigger paycheck... that was what it is always about. And Black Sabbath (w/ Dio) and Dio (the band) did better than Rainbow, FYI 😈

Love Ronnie so very much, but Rainbow was much more than just him. I think you would really like the song "Ariel". It sung by Doogie White in the 1995 version of Rainbow. The live concert from the Philipshalle, Düsseldorf concert. Also from the same concert he has a great version of Ronnie's version of "Temple of the King"

Your reaction to my favorite part, of my favorite Rainbow song, at 7:45, (In headphones, it's amazing), and again when Dio says "The devil is me, and I'm holding the key"... Was priceless. Thank you.❤ You might listen to "The Shed", off the "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" album. Only Dio could do this one justice.🤘
