Let Me Know was originally titled Sunday Driver. Their debut album is a classic solid hitter. One of the greats for sure.

I believe this was the very 1st song Paul played for Gene (when they met for the very first time)...Gene said, "Oh so you're a songwriter too?...Play something for me" and Paul played what was then "Sunday driver" and became "Let Me Know".

THE reason I switched from drums to guitar in 1978 was Ace Frehley! I saw that picture in the Evolution Of KISS booklet inside Alive II where he's playing his awesome vintage burst Les Paul and bathed in the golden spotlight. I saw that and said: "I gotta do that! I wanna be up there on stage under those lights!" And a few years later, I was! Ace Frehley, Tom Scholz, and, of course, Eddie Van Halen, were huge influences on me when I started! I've been a KISS fan since 1975. And, while I don't like what they've been doing lately, I'll ALWAYS be a fan of the older KISS with the original 4!

Fun fact: that solo at the end of the song is the same solo that they play at the end of “she” on KISS Alive

Man, Kiss was also the band that gor me into rock music, and I'm a huge Ace Frehley fan. Even got to see him live twice amd meet him, his shows are still kicking serious ass! But, I'm a little surprised that you haven't heard this song before. It's a really fun song, and fun to play on guitar as well! The jam at the end is actually my favorite Kiss instrumental piece. This was the song Paul sang to Gene when they first met. Gene couldn’t believe someone other than he wrote songs so he asked a Paul to show him one of his originals. It was originally called Sunday Driver. Also, the heavier ending in this song is what they usually use to go into Ace’s guitar solo where he sets it on fire and makes it levitate.

I started listening to Kiss in 1982 at age 6, thanks to my dad when he bought Creatures of the Night. Along with other bands, like Black Sabbath, Kiss lead to my love of metal and then many many years later picking up a guitar. I had the Kiss Alive I album, which my parents bought for me second hand and I loved it.

Ace Frehley doesn’t use his middle finger to do this “hiccup” effect at 4:02. He does it with the pick, kinda like when you’ll do a pinch harmonic, but just apply more pressure with the thumb, muting the string in the downstroke, and hitting the note with the upstroke.

I love kiss too, the first time I heard kiss was when I listened to rock and roll all night. The second song I’ve ever heard was let me know, please do more kiss. We’re brothers in kiss. I’d love to just see more of how to play these songs and the like. Kiss is such an underrated band in terms of rhythm and bass. What a coincidence, jammed this whole album last night at work, love old KISS. Pretty much how I first started playing when I was a kid was trying to emulate Ace. For as big as they are/were I still feel like Ace was very underrated as a guitarist

Yeah I discovered Kiss when I was around 8 except for me that was in the 70s. Also I can learn Kiss and many other straightforward rock songs in about the time it takes for the song to play. I've been doing that for years. It just takes experience and ear training. There was no KZfaq lessons when I started playing. It was just put on the record and learn it.

I am a self taught Guitar player, with the help of some music theory from my grammar and high school trombone playing years. In 1975 I heard kiss for the first time, dressed to kill album, room service was the first song. I fell in love with them, their sound and ever since Ace Frehley has been a huge influence on my playing and style. You hit the nail right on the head and made a valid point when figuring out songs. Over a period of time , your ears become “Seasoned” and when you hear certain chords or Melody’s you instantly understand what and how the music is played. So it’s easier to figure out how to play certain songs. Unlike Dream Theater or any of these Bands with ultra complex chords, scales, and alternating time signatures. Over a period of time, you learn the “System” so to speak. I can hear a lot of Keith Richards/Rolling Stones chords in Paul’s playing, Ace too for that matter. Especially in their first three albums. Many people don't realize that guitarist have styles that are unique to them, almost like a language. Once you learn their dialect it gets easier to figure it out. Add to that, KISS doesn't go out of it's way to be too complicated. They just play the music they want. "ALIVE" started my addiction as well!

Amazing how many guys who grew up during 80s n 90s still have respect for Kiss.100:000 years, Parasite lady, black diamond. I didn't start listening too kiss till dynasty came out, though it was Kiss alive 1 my favorite.

I grew up in a roller rink, essentially, so "I was made for loving you" was the first song to send me into my "KISS Army" mindset. I was born in October 1974, so not even a full year after their debut album was released. I'll be 47 in a few months, and I've gotta say that KISS has been ever-present throughout my life. Timeless even while they're alive.

The last section was indeed added on to the end of "She" with an extended Ace guitar solo included when KISS added "She" to their live set after Dressed to Kill was released. You should definitely check out the live performance of "She" from the Midnight Special tv show from April, 1975. It was actually a live performance and not pre-recorded like most musical shows were at that time and included one of my favorite live Ace solos of all time. He is using his 1973 Les Paul deluxe Tobacco burst and is completely in the zone. Ironically Paul is using the very rare 1975 Gibson Midnight Special in White(pretty much looks like the L6-S with a bolt on neck) during that tv performance. This performance can be found on Disc I of the Kissology Volume I DVD set and all over KZfaq as well. They dominate in those early performances and you can just see and hear the hunger and growing confidence when they take the stage. I would have given anything to see them live in that 1973-1975 period because you can tell just by watching any footage of that era that they were unstoppable. Unfortunately, I didn't see them for the first time until 1979 and by then they were just not the same band even though Peter and Ace were still in the band.

I took a quick glance through the comments and I didn't see anyone mention this bit of trivia about this particular song. The song was originally called Sunday Driver, and it was written when Gene and Paul were still with Wicked Lester. It was going to be on the bands debut album. But when Gene and Paul decided to end that group and form KISS, Gene decided to change the name of the song as well.

Man I don't think I've heard this either, it sounds like Christine, firehouse & I can't place the third song all put together, especially Gene's 1st verse. Kiss was definitely the big craze, I listened to Kiss Alive II until it wore out, the big double album, you open it up and it's just them all on these huge platforms. I was 6 or 7 when that came out, my babysitters son who was in high school turned me on to that and Dirty Deeds. I was corrupted forever hahaha.

Great video! Ace Frehley may not be a technical genius like Eddie Van Halen,Satchel(Steel panther), Randy Rhoads etc., but he knew how to hit all the right notes in the right places for KISS's style.

Gene and Paul were introduced to each other by mutual friend and musician Steve Coronel, who was not only a member of Wicked Lester, but had a hand in writing a few early KISS songs as well. As the lore goes, Steve said to Gene, "Remember when you said you thought you were the only one you knew who wrote songs? Well, Stan, here (Paul's real name is Stanley Eisen, as many of us know) is a songwriter, too." Gene, being skeptical and slightly confrontational upon hearing so, said to Paul (again, Stan at the time), "Oh, really? Play something of your own." He played this very song for Gene on the spot, only the title of it then was "Sunday Driver," not "Let Me Know." When Paul (Stan) was done, Gene admitted aloud, "Hmmm, well, that's, um...not bad." Meanwhile, as Gene remembered, "I said to myself about Paul's songwriting, 'WOW! This guy's WAY better than me!'"

The original name of the song was in the beginning: "Sunday driver" and one of the first songs Gene and "Stanly" played to each other, when they met at a friend's house.

I guess the generation of not buying albums and listening o individual songs on spotify will miss a lot of great music. Ah the days of buying a record or CD and just listening to the whole thing. That part at the end has always been a staple in Ace's live solo spot, usually the lead-in to it.

1976 I was 12 years old, I had just moved back to the USA after living in South America. I watched the Paul Lynde Halloween Special on TV and saw Kiss for the first time. I so identify, my life was changed. I got the Kiss Originals album for Christmas that hear and went to the Kiss Alive concert in 1977. First concert ever! After years of wanting to, I now getting closer to playing some of their tunes. Can't begin to say how many times I went hoarse in my room trying to sing this stuff.

my first experience with kiss was with ALIVE 2. i was about 6 years old. we did the pretending to be playing in a concert thing too, i was always gene, my favorite as a kid

First, I am a mediocre guitar player at best. Learned to play when I was a teenager in the 1970s. No tabs back then. No books back then. No KZfaq back then. Just the album, my ear, my instrument, and patience. I was playing with a far more talented guitarist recently who learned from tabs and KZfaq. He was amazed that I could easily pick up riffs, chords, melodies, and basic solo structures, because he was unable to do it. It is a skill that takes time to develop.

it's a killer tune. love the vocal break. laughed that people think you can't figure out a song this fast, I listened to Kiss since I was 13 or 14, some of the metaphors like "love gun" went right over my head, lol but though I started playing Bass in 1980, I only learned a couple of Kiss songs, decades later I was asked to join a tribute act, and sat down to learn some songs, I found I could play them all immediately even though I had never played them, in the interim I had earned a degree in performance on bass from Berklee, ear training is a thing, yo, I declined the gig because they wanted me to breathe fire and Gene advises people not to do that, I took his advice. do I regret it, yes, yes I do.

On A&E KISSTORY pt1 this song was called Sunday Driver by Wicked Lester, so the guitar wasn’t composed by Ace

Back min the early 2000's they released a live compilation CD called "You Wanted The Best" or something like that. Let Me Lnow was one of the songs they included in this. The live version was extended out, added a break where the song should've ended, went into another guitar solo... Cool version of a cool song. (they didn't do the other part from the original that most know as the lead-in to Ace's guitar solo from Alive...)

Kiss influenced me much like they did you. It was also the Alive album I was completely fascinated with at first too in fifth grade. Ace was very timid when it came to singing at first. He wrote Cold Gin but Gene sang it simply because Ace was not confident enough in his singing. I’ve seen Ace sing the second verse live more recently so obviously that’s changed. This song could have had a lot of Ace’s influence. You’d have to check the credits to see who wrote it. Ace was one of the better song writers, in my opinion. His solo album did much better than the other three.

Alive II provided the same intro for me, with the pictures on the inside and back, etc. I bought it in the late 70s for $5 from an older cousin who received it as a Christmas gift but did not want it (that is over $15 in current dollars for a used record, to give an idea of how much more affordable music is today). I still have that album so arguably I got my money's worth!!

Here are chords you need for ANY classic Kiss song. Major, minor, 1st position, sus2 and sus4. That's about it. Throw is the blues shuffle pattern then pentatonic scales for solos and that's Kiss in a nutshell.

In the beginning, ACE did write some of the songs and didn't sing them the first song he sang was Sock ME off the Love Gun album. I think you would be surprised to find a lot the songs were written by ACE and song by the other members

The part of the song after the break was also plated on the Alive album. At the end of the song She, there is the same break in the music. Then Ace plays the exact same thing to lead into his famous solo at the end of She.

Very cool! Having played bass for some time, I know how one can pick up and easily go to a progression or technique and learn a song quickly. Now that I'm working on a guitar, I can see that too. And your Les Paul - what a beauty!
