This is a good point. I'm just worried how effective PA is gonna be when this personnel, both RBs, OL, TEs, etc have been atrocious at blocking & reading zone schemes. I pray that was just an issue that started with & compounded due to Mason Cole, who looked like he had no idea what his zone progression was in terms of double teams, who came off & when to the backer, & etc.

The run blocking schemes fail when defenses do not respect the throwing accuracy of the QB. (they did not respect a pass from Kenny over 10 yards) Those defenses need to get burnt deep a couple of times to open up the run game. Mason proved what can happen when you have a balance offense.

@@ragin8323 No, I hate jags who don't know balls. What we do well, didn't get our 2 RB over 100 yards combined until Game 8 vs TEN 157 yds. Only once we faced the bad run game defense ''did we do well" Warren had 2 games over 100 rushing yards. Harris had 2 games over 100 rushing yards. We ranked 28 and 30th in redzone & goal to go efficiency. That means do we score TDs. Higher number is worse. Only when we opened up the passing game with motion routes did it get better. 25th red zone 20th goal2go. Running the ball on 4th down we went 5 of 13 attempts. Passing aggressively we made 4 of 7 fourth down conversions. We have 1 blocking TE in Washington, no Center, a really bad left tackle and an average guard. We rank 14th in attempts, and 19th in yards. Yet we run well? No, go ask mom for a cookie and a glass of milk.

@@mc1993 You did all that yapping and for what? LOL. We were ranked eigth in rushing yards per game the last 5 games when Canada got fired. Followed by fourth in most rushing touchdowns per game that same stretch. Followed by having the seventh highest leading rusher in Harris. Followed by Harris and Warren being top five in broken tackles with 29 and 27 respectively. Followed by Harris being top five (number four) in explosive (over 20 yards) runs. Stop bringing up RedZone bullshit when our pass game was horrendous all year dunce. Know ball 😂
@mc19936 ай бұрын
@@ragin8323 For someone who knows ball, they should know there were 7 post Canada game, not 5. Warren's two 100+ rushing games came under Canada. All that blathering you did is pointless, and the reason what we did in-between the 20's is pointless is because Redzone & Goal to Go efficiency matters is since that is what scores touchdowns. You also ignore the back 7 was the weak side of our schedule, and all but New England had terrible defenses against the rush. Even more so the reason we look at RZ/G2G scoring. Opponent D ranked vs the rush and yards/attempt. Cincy 26 yd 30 y/a Arizona 32 yd 29 y/a Patriots 4 yd 1 y/a Colts 24 yd 10 y/a Cincy 26 yd 30 y/a Seattle 31 yd 27 y/a Balt backups 14 yd 25 y/a Under Canada vs Green Bay, Harris had 82 yds 1 TD, Warren had 101 yds 1 TD with "horrendous" passing game...why? GBay's run D ranked 28 in yds and 23 in y/a just like the other terrible run defenses in those last 7 games w/o Canada. New England held Harris 12 for 29 yds, Warren 7 for 11 yds. It is not the terrible passing, as in just the QB, that was the major issue, it was the offensive game plan of ball control passing to short sit routes. Once we used aggressive passing on motion routes, it created 4th QTR Kenny. We opened up aggressive passing vs Cincy where Pickett and Rudolph were near identical statistically. This is why people wanted a QB centric OC. Art Smith is an Art Rooney II pick, and its back to same old same old. However, if the guy actually does call for QB under center play action pass on 1st or 2nd down of a goal to go situation, which we did not do at all for the last half of the season, it will be a plus.

So frustrated 😞 Needed to interview a minimum of 10 candidates. Terrible decision 😞 6 years of Canada would have been the same. Absolutely depressing. The passing game forced the defenses to lay off a bit opening the running game up. This team has weapons at receiver and TE and this guy is a horrible choice to create new offensive game that we see from truly competitive teams.
@zacheryzimmerman54686 ай бұрын
I'd say you're right, but the key to the passing game was the running game. The offense didn't take off until we had a top 5 run game in the back half of the season. Safeties would double-team George Pickens and prevent the deep pass. When you run the ball effectively, the safeties have to respect the run more...so they move up and play the run. Which leaves Pickens or DJ 1 on 1 with no safety help over top. If you just pass with no threat of a run game, defenses will tee off on you with the pass rush.
@hoge31156 ай бұрын
@@zacheryzimmerman5468 The Steelers tried running the ball and until Rudolph came in and created a passing game that defenses had to respect, the running game was terrible because defenses put extra guys in the box. It may appear to be a chicken and egg to some people, but how long has everyone complained about Najee being a terrible running back? Kenny and Mitch didn't threaten opponents with their arm like Rudolph. Warren was able to run the ball a bit better but only when the offense spread receivers out wide thinning out the middle of the defense. Canada's offense lacked running and passing plays out of the same formations also making it easy for the defenses to know when to stack the box or not.

Chiefly, the question is whether Arthur Smith will abandon gap blocking or minimize it heavily in favor of zone. I don’t think it’s wise; the Steelers are at their best when they run both gap and zone. As such, Smith should continue to run both in a “balanced” approach, which makes sense given our personnel at RB. Gap blocking suits Najee Harris better; he excels running north/south; and he doesn’t have the best vision for zone, particularly for the stretch, i.e., outside zone. But stretch suits Warren perfectly because of his vision and shiftiness. Also, minimizing gap plays doesn’t make any sense given the talent and athleticism we have at guard. And if the Steelers take Jackson Powers-Johnson, the center from Oregon, in the first round in this year‘s draft, they’ll have three pieces in the interior of the OL to pull in both directions. Therefore, to marginalize gap blocking is a mistake.

This was a Rooney hire. Brought in 2 unqualified candidates and Smith, then said take you're pick Mike. Make the 📲 Free George Pickens! *🐐💯 *Free Pat Freiermuth! 🐐💯He's in his contract year and get massive draft capital you need to get the OLine Jackson Powers-Johnson and Joe Alt or the other top Tackle for the Steelers. I want to see GP and Muth go to teams who will use their talent and are in need of talent. I don't want to see their careers get destroyed here in Pittsburgh.

curiosity got me to compare careers of the falcons benched qb (des ridder) to kp8 oh god. kenny is a statistical downgrade. we are in so much trouble haha

Because all you need to evaluate a guy is the box score right?

preferable to the eye test--although kenny doesn't fare much better there either.@@RunBayou

Awful. Just awful, all the interviews and all the potential options to pick a dud. Steelers continue to Steeler
