From Babymetal, the only thing you can expect is the unexpected. Su-metal is one of the best technical singers, with an incredible ability to adapt to different styles.

Babymetal originally had 3 members, the singer Suzuka Nakamoto (Su- Metal) and the dancers Moa Kikuchi (Moa-Metal) and Yui Mizuno (Yui- Metal), the latter Yui-Metal left the group in 2018 due to health problems and because She wanted to pursue her personal dreams (a curious fact since she left the group to this day there is no type of information about her) from 2019 to 2023 Babymetal to supplant that 3 member, did something called "avengers" which were 3 dancers who rotated At each concert, one of them is called Momoko Okazaki, who in early 2023 would become an official and definitive member of the band, now she is Momo-Metal, this video clip that you saw is before the official announcement of Momo-Metal, so Many fans theorize that the appearance of those 3 people symbolizes the departure of Yui-Metal or the entry of the new member Momo-Metal.

Nice one! I love this video, Su’s voice is absolutely amazing! A few points to mention: 1). As the channel name suggests, this was all filmed and recorded in one take only. 2). From Yui’s departure at end of 2018 to Apr 2023, when Momo was made official 3rd, everything in between will be just Su and Moa as “Babymetal”, in anything official. 3). The 3 hooded figures are still a mystery, but they provide backing harmonies to Moa’s “Oh-ooh-oh’s”. Lastly, what’s next? *MONOCHROME!* But the full version: Live at Pia Arena MM, Babymetal Begins Clear Night concert. This took place Apr 2nd, 2023, the day after Momo was made official 3rd.! Trust me, this is an absolute must, and an amazing and epic performance!! 🤘🦊

Su-Metal with a voice like a laser beam!

With groups, people tend to enjoy the bounce and flash of their performances and M/V's, so programs like this, and Killing Voice, allow these artists to highlight their full vocal talents. It's easy - particularly with Babymetal - to overlook that fact that those girls have great voices. There's just so much talent out there. For me, the only living creature who likes my singing is my cat, and if you've ever heard cats sing, well... ;)

The reason that there is only two of them in this video is that this was filmed early in 2023 when they were still a duo, before Momometal officially joined as the third member. The original third member, Yuimetal, retired from Babymetal in 2018 due to illness, and for the past five years, Babymetal was just Su-metal and Moametal, with one of three backing dancers (Riho Sayashi, Kano Fujihira, and Momoko Okazaki), called the "Avengers" filling in Yui's old dancing position. Momoko was the longest serving of the Avengers, having performed with Babymetal for four years before becoming Momometal in April 2023. They have a few songs like this with more gentle style like this such as "No Rain, No Rainbow", "Akatsuki" (Unfinished version), "The One" (Stairway to Living Legend version).

This definitely is not their normal style but it really does showcase Su's voice. Highly recommend checking out the PIA Arena 2023 version of this to see just how different of an arrangement they came up for to appear on this "The First Take" channel.

Not even the most seasoned BABYMETAL fan saw this coming, despite they have a couple of unfinished (acoustic) versions of their songs "Akatsuki" and "The ONE". The First Take is a channel that invites singers from bands around the world to sing whatever they want, removed from their normal instrumentation and theatrics. It's a singer and a microphone, one take only (as the channel name suggests), then it is posted. Very cool concept.

This song is not a "normal" BABYMETAL release. There's a Metal version of the song on the latest album "The Other One", which is quite different. This particular version here was published on the KZfaq channel "The First Take", which invites (more or less) popular artists to record an often stripped down version of one of their songs in a single take without overdubs or retries. Despite already having been a BABYMETAL fan for a few years when this was released, I was almost shocked by the power and emotion in Su's voice. It took my admiration to a new level. It also shows how much detail of the vocals is getting drowned out by the wall of sound of the Metal instruments. Any lesser voice might get completely lost in it.

Great reaction. Yes they will continue to surprise you, as you said, they are incredibly versatile and know no bounds to what they might try. Su-metal and Moametal recorded this video as a duo shortly before 1st April this year (2023) when, after 4 -5 years as a duo, BABYMETAL became a trio again when Momoko was revealed as the new official third member Momometal. The lyrics refer to a "monochrome firework", imagining the night sky in colours and finally painting the world in the colours of the rainbow. It is about how dark things can become, but no matter how long the night the morning will always arrive. It is a song full of hope. The visuals in the official lyric video seem to reference significant events in history (seem to, we don't really know if they do), but suggest that even the worst of times will eventually come to an end. The figures in white in this video - they were providing backing vocals/harmonies on the "ohohoh" parts of course, but there is always something more to it. We don't know who they were (we can have an educated guess). They may have been a reference back to when BABYMETAL had been a trio and a hint that they would become a trio again very soon, but I think their being dressed in white was possibly the most significant thing. BABYMETAL have performed dressed in white two times before this (3 if you count the 'Karate' official video) and each time it was at a significant turning point in their own history. First time was at Legend Z early in 2013 for the last 2 encores. This was their final performance as a sub-unit of their parent group Sakura Gakuin before BABYMETAL separated to go their own way as an independent band in their own right. Second time Yui and Moa started the Legend 1997 (December 2013) concert dressed in white making a theatrical offering of neck braces to the god of metal (represented by the statue in that concert). Legend 1997 was the final step of their separation and becoming independent band. The whole concert told that story of their transition and in particular of Suzuka Nakamoto's transition, giving up her life and existence as a JPop Idol and sacrificing herself to be reborn as the Metal Goddess Su-metal. If you include the 'Karate' official video - that was the lead single for the second album (2016) and that was another big step as they moved on from the first album which was nearly half full of songs they had originally released with Sakura Gakuin and started to explore more metal genres musical styles. So here we see figures in white again ... and this was just before the "new" BABYMETAL was revealed with Momometal joining Su-metal and Moametal to make up the new trio. All of that is just my own thinking of course - there is every chance I've read far more into it all than is really there. The most logical and obvious follow up to this would be the live performance of 'Monochrome' at their 'BABYMETAL Begins, Clear Night' concert from April 2023 and you can see and hear for yourselves if it matches up to this beautiful piano version.

I live in Japan and hear this version of the song all over the place. It is a beautiful song, I even heard it playing in a supermarket the other day. BTW, you never know what you will hear playing as background music in supermarkets here, I have everything from Simon & Garfunkel to Metallica.

Suzuka, the main singer, is from Hiroshima. This song is about surviving the atomic bomb (monochrome fireworks). The singer longs for normal skies. There is another song done like this one - The One.

this wasn't the first time they took a hard rocking song and totally mellowed it out, have you guys heard the regular version of Monochrome, if not you must, but another great example of the same song presented in two completely different ways is "Akatsuki" it is a Su-Metal solo song, where normally it rocks really hard, but there is another version called "the Unfinished version"

all 3 versions (this one, the official , and the live) are all _amazing_ ; but each in their own way, as they each bring something unique to the song. no one will complain if you react to all 3 😉😁

these shows showcase their real talent because there are no filters just raw vocals and as the shows name says it is actually done in one take from start to finish no editing so if they make a mistake it stays in, which only proves their true professionalism and just how incredible they really are, also proves just how little backing tracks are used in live performances though that is not up to the bands/groups/singers in live shows it's up to the promoter whether they sing live or lip sync to a backing track, so when you hear people going on about a group lip syncing just know most are from those promoter shows, beside the pretty faced little talent music of today is more a western music thing (especially the US market)

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。The electric version of "Monochrome" was played in every show in BABYMETAL's North American tour (29 gigs mostly with DETHKLOK) and EU/UK tour (20 gigs). The ♪ oh oh ohoo ♪ part was chanted by the audience at every venue in the sea of phone lights. That is breathtaking. In this first take version, the girls proved that they can do anything. They have forced people to headbang with their heavy music and sharp choreo. Now they can depict various images by just singing and project them into the listeners' brain to move people emotionally. Thank you BABYMETAL. And thank you Koba, the BM producer, for your serendipity. Some 13 years ago, you certainly discovered something amazing and sacred for us. Speaking of the three figures in white hood adding some background vocals, I believe they are homage to BM's girlhood with original three girls, whereas current reborn BM have new and matured triangle formation.

Great Reaction. You should have done Monochrome live which is Metal and Monochrome Piano together so you could compare. Su was asked to front BabyMetal cuz she can just blast over the heavy music. You can hear the power she is capable of, I bet she is 80% lung. It is Su and Moa from BabyMetal and the 3 little girls are the harmonizers who are probably from their pre-BabyMetal band Sakura Gakuin.

Perfection...in one single take. SuMetal's voice has only matured and improved over the years - those last two words ("Just smile") hit me in the heart every time. FYI the guy who came up with the idea of metal and pop heard Su when she was like 9 or 10 years old and felt since she had a powerful voice that she would not be overrun by a big metal band. Su is the reason for forming Babymetal. the rest come later. now this version is good to show how powerful and clean she can sing. so loud but clear. the original version live is also so good but it feels like a totally different song even though same words. you haven't even begin to see what Su can do and how many genres she can do.

This is a the other side of Babymetal. It was recorded just before BM became a trio again when Momoko officially joined 5 years after Yui left. BM come out of a J-pop background as they were originally a sub-group of Sakura Gakuin and Su has performed in many genres. Another example of BM's quieter side is "Akatsuki unfinished version" at Legend 1997 and that would be good as a reaction video. You might also look at some pre 2014 Sakura Gakuin videos to see a Su, Moa and Yui when they were very young. As you seem to be reviewing quite a few Japanese groups you should include Atarashii Gakko. A good first video is another First Take performance "Atarashi Gakko Otona Blue The First Take".

I know a lot of people have mentioned this already, but this is done in one take completely live. It's from a show called "One Take" where the artists only get one chance to sing the song live, without any cuts or help. Very cool idea. BM fans already know this type of unique acoustic version like Akatsuki Unfinished Version live at Legend 1997 or "The One - Stairway To Living Legend", so we're used to this SuMetal's vocals power to reach and melting our hearts. Fans at the recent World Tour 2023 were enjoying the original version of this song at every show and having a magical moment and pretty sure we're gonna get more this year, they just announced another show in Okinawa for the first time playing in that prefecture. The three white figures dressed in white are probably a reference to old BM era when YuiMetal was still part of the group or maybe a reference to the new young BM unit they previously performed along with them and are part of this new metalverse project, they already debut at Summer Sonic Festival opening the festival with a set of new three songs exclusive for them. When they released this Piano Version the new official member MomoMetal wasn't announced yet, that's why you only see the two of them, after the official announcement they released another acoustic version of a song called "The One - Unfinished Version" and they included MomoMetal, the new official member in it. The F1rst Take channel is a Gold Mine of great performances. There's even some Kpop groups that were just awesome, no electronic tricks. An outstanding one is Atarashii Gakko "Otano Blu", 50 million view in 3 months. Some Homework - JRock News - interview with Marty Friedman, who on lives and works in Japan. He was a guitarist in Megadeath. He explains the Japanese music culture, education and training of the musicians and singer, and the work ethic. Talks about the school system with clubs that are seed for many bands.

It would be wrong to say that BABYMETAL aren't a 'gimmick' band. They are. But videos like this make it very clear that the gimmick is in support of their talent and dedication, not in place of it. Their vocals and songwriting are world class, top tier, they just also happen to do choreo to metal music and wear space-queen-warrior armor and pigtails.

There is only Moa and Su in this video. The other member at the time was just a Dancer only. They now have three members singing vocals. Originally, the other full member was Yui, but during 2018, she was ill and did not come back and retired from the group. The regular version of this song is on the fourth album. I have listened only once to this album and did not like it as most of the songs are of a same style. Other fans said the same and were not happy. Their previous albums were covering different styles and are all great.

When Babymetal was first formed, it was built around Suzuka Nakamoto because Babymetal's producer was impressed by the power of young Su's voice and her stage presence. Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi were chosen to accompany her because they were shorter than Su, roughly the same height as each other, and looked and sounded somewhat similar to each other. As others have mentioned, Yui left the group in 2018 and hasn't been heard from since aside from a blurb in a retrospective book put out by the idol school all three of them went to. It hasn't been revealed why Yui left other than it was undisclosed medical reasons, though that doesn't stop a lot of idiots from posting their version of "the truth." She did mention wanting to pursue a solo career, but it's going on six years and nothing yet. In 2019, three young women were revealed as The Avengers: Kano Fujihira, Riho Sayashi, and Momoko Okazaki. They weren't members of Babymetal, just backup dancers, but they filled that third person role. Riho and Kano were awesome but didn't stick around too long. Momoko was the Avenger for the most shows and was officially named as the third member of Babymetal in spring of 2023. Regarding the hooded figures in this video, I don't think anything official has been said about what they represent, but my interpretation is that they're supposed to represent younger Su, Yui, and Moa. I feel that at 4:08 when they hold hands, it represents the unity among the three of them that they shared over the years and likely still share. I think this is a final and professional bittersweet goodbye to Yuimetal. Babymetal's second video on The First Take, "The One," was released just after Momoko became Momometal, Babymetal's official third member, so to me the two videos are like a dividing line between the past and future. Also, I don't think the hooded figures are actually singing.
