the best thing about geezer's bass is that he knows when to go hard and when to lighten up. he's not mindlessly thrashing away on the lowest string the entire time, he plays low at the beginning of the intro riff, then plays an octave higher for the rest. then the riff at 1:13 comes in and he goes HARD with the bass, and it kicks in so heavy. these guys were insane

I just found this channel, and you guys are great! My favorite Sabbath song! The story in the lyrics are some of my favorite. Freedom fighters venture into space to find a new home because we've destroyed earth with pollution and war. The message to take care of our planet is still relevant since Sabbath recorded this in 1971.

Another great reaction!!!! I'm not sure if anyone has commented this in any other Sabbath reaction, but when the record company put out their debut self titled album back in 69/70 the record company put an upside down crucifix in the inner album artwork and the band had NO IDEA!!!!! That stupid move from the record company caused people, including actual occultists, to believe the band members were into the occult and satanism and all that crap. But it was NEVER the idea of the band nor did they approve of it and they worked hard to shake that reputation off of them!!!

"A National Acrobat" is a good one too. In the early years Tony Iommi had his guitar tuned down a step and a half to C# due to the pain caused by pushing on the strings with his injured fingers. That's what gives them that doomy sound,,,combined with a lot of creative musical talent. Before they started making lighter guitar strings he even used banjo strings due to them being lighter he said in an interview I watched. The story of how he cut off his fingers is interesting as well. Same day he was going to quit his metal shop job and turn professional guitarist but it all worked out well in the end.

Love the bass and drums intro - long intro! And the deep, thoughtful lyrics are making a statement that's just as relevant now as it was back in '71 - maybe even more so! And I agree - if we were to go set up a new colony on a new planet, we'd only take all the religious, political, and cultural triggers for conflict with us, and make exactly the same mess of our new society, and our new planet, as we'd tried to escape....

The dark deep tone from the guitar you were hearing is because Tony's fret hand has fingertips made out of an old leather jacket. When he was younger he had an accident at the metal fabrication shop he worked at where he accidentally cut off his fingertips while cutting sheet metal. Watch the live performances when they do a close-up of Tony playing his guitar and you will notice them

Black Sabbath was originally called "Earth"...there was another band in the UK called Earth that played more 60s pop rock music and they were often hired thinking they were the pop band. So they set out to rename themselves. The movie theater across from where they practiced was airing the Boris Karloff pic "Black Sabbath". Geezer Butler said to the band "Let's call ourselves Black Sabbath, I'm sure no one has that name". Into The Void is another "warning" song...about war, pollution, the state of the planet....and that we need to find another place if this continues because we will destroy it. Another funny side note..This the first Sabbath Album where Geezer and Tony purposely down tuned their instruments to get a heavier sound...and also relive stress on Tony's fingers. Geezer laughingly commented, "the more we seemed to play lower, the more Ozzy's voice got higher".

This album "Master of Reality" was released in 1971 and it was their 3rd album. Their debut album was released in 1970, amazing right! Now their 2nd album "Paranoid" was also released in 1970. I'm amazed you haven't reacted to "Ironman" off the 2nd album or "Hand of Doom" also from the 2nd album. If you have and I missed it please forgive me but if you haven't it's a must. I saw Black Sabbath in concert my first time in 1971 and I've been a fan ever since. This is my favorite song from Sabbath, at least during the Ozzy years, because it was so much fun to play live. It didn’t matter if I was on guitar or bass, it was a blast. “Supernaut” is another favorite of mine from the Ozzy years. There’s a Japanese band called Ningen Isu who has a song that always reminds me of this song. Isu’s song is called “Heartless Scat” and it’s one most reactors get to eventually. I heartily recommend it if you haven’t heard it yet. Normally I’d search your channel to check, but I’m on my phone and it’s a bit awkward to do so.

I'm the biggest Black Sabbath fan of all times, nobody loves them or listens to them on my level. This album Master Of Reality is somehow the 2nd highest rated Black Sabbath album almost anywhere you look. This album is not good. It has five real tracks, it hardly has any guitar solos, the bass is the only good aspect of this album. Ozzy his vocals they aren't even good, and Bill Ward, his drumming is so below average. Those are all factual points. You have to be drugged out of your mind to enjoy this album. It doesn't take to many brain cells to see this album doesn't have the quality of songs, vocals, guitars and drums as the other albums. Before Ozzy left the 7th and 8th albums are totally different and still have way better songs then Master Of Reality. I'm sure you'll listen to Black Sabbath without Ozzy but I won't be watching those reactions. Listening to Black Sabbath without Ozzy is total blasphemy. Ronnie James Dio has plenty of other good bands that he was in but listening to him in Sabbath is wrong. The band minus Ozzy is the same but it sounds nothing like Black Sabbath. I'm not blind I can see Mrs Coach was not as blown away by this like songs from other way better albums. Into the Void is the closing track and it's one of the only good songs from this overrated album. You said everyone was on top of their game? What sections? Not on this album. Geezer Butler his bass and song writing are the only good parts on this album.
