This group was not popular in 2012-2014 when they came out and was planning to disband with this song being their last comeback but a fancam of Hani, exploded and the song became viral in 2015 and went to number one. They took advantage of the success and released a couple of hits in their career such as Ah Yeah!, Hot Pink, L.I.E, Night Rather than Day, DDD. They are one of the sexy woman Kpop groups who are not afraid to flaunt sexy...

The lyrics mime the shifting tone of the track with the song expressing the feelings of a roller coaster relationship between two people. The topic at hand is the subtle objectification of the female body. The girls are split in half at times, and the MV takes this idea of conjoining disparate objects and body parts to produce odd shapes and connections that aren’t quite fitting with the natural state of things. The viewer is constantly seeing the parts, and it pushes how our brains are conditioned to assume the whole from the part. This statement is also paired with another prop that implies sexual innuendo, balloons, to show how we see symbols from something otherwise unrelated

They’re an interesting and kind of inspiring group. The song initially didn’t do so well and their career could’ve end a lot faster than it did. Hani had a fancam stage video go viral a whole year after up & down came out and they got popular from there. I really recommend their killing voice video! I have been an EXID fan since 2014-2015 and my god they have only released bops. I love their quirky videos too! The rapper LE has also helped produce songs for other groups and was a rap coach for a few other idols like HyunA (4minute/soloist) and Yeeun (CLC). Their main vocalist Solji was a vocal coach predebut and last I heard is a professor at a university (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I love this group so much. ❤

I would also recommend to watch the Killing voice of EXID (since you liked Mamamoo's Killing voice). A great group with good vocalists especially Solji which you will definitely find out on your own if you check out more of their songs / performances. They have a different sound to most of the current Kpop songs and I usually liked the signature combination of the two main vocalists with Hyerin starting off and Solji bringing in the power vocals / belting. Huh, thank you for the reaction brings me back to my early Kpop days in 2014 (which is when i first listened to EXID).

Hi! Just discovered your channel a few days ago. I came to K-pop via K-drama (that's yet another whole world to explore), specifically 'Idol:the Coup', which is a drama (12 1-hour episodes) about a struggling girl group, starring Hani (she's an excellent actress - the character was nothing like Hani's charismatic stage presence or her boisterous variety show personality). Naturally I investigated, and got hooked. Up and Down was my introduction to K-pop. Anyway, I think the Up and Down MV becomes easier to understand with a couple of bits of context. The first is that EXID was formed by a well-known K-pop producer called Shinsadong Tiger, who of course produced the song (I think comments like "LE writes and produces all their songs" are overblown: I'd say it's the Shinsadong Tiger/LE team that did that). So I think the MV is partly about how K-pop is made: contributions of the members are sliced and diced to make something new (Shinee's Married to the Music MV has a similar concept - boy group so no reaction but you can watch in your own time: it's enormous fun). The second is that there was a definite wave of sexy concept girl groups roughly in the period 2011-15. Song titles like 'Miniskirt', 'Wiggle Wiggle', 'Sticky Sticky' and 'Touch my Body' speak for themselves. I'm pretty sure that Up and Down was intended partly as a commentary on this, that sex is one of the components to be thrown into the mix when making K-pop. In the event their choreo was too much for Korean TV and had to be changed for live TV performances, while Hani's fancam meant that they became known for their sexy choreo. My impression is that was not what they really wanted (which would be to be known for their music), and the MVs for Ah Yeah and Hot Pink were clapbacks against Korean public hypocrisy.

I've stopped remarking upon how beautiful the ladies in K-pop groups are. They're *all* beautiful, clearly chosen for their attractive appearance nearly as much as their musical talent, so it has come to be expected... As Mrs Coach says, it's another catchy song, with beautiful vocals. However, without a translation of the lyrics, we can only gather the theme from the surreal imagery, coupled with the repeated, very obvious innuendos..... 😉

This song has a lot of strange things, but that's what makes it viral. kpop was greatly influenced by Japanese music, so that's why there are many songs that have a more colorful and crazy concept. but, kpop has changed and is becoming a little more like American pop, or electronic, for example the group blackpink.

The reason why Elly the Rapper has such good flow is because she is the composer and producer for most of EXID’s songs. Before Elly joined EXID, she was the only female Rapper in an underground badass Rap group called Jiggy Fellaz. Additionally, she writes and produces for other artists. At one time, Elly had co-written the #1 song on the charts “Trouble Maker” by the duo Trouble Maker and the #2 song “Whenever You Play That Song” by Huh Gak with Elly rapping and singing beautifully on the song. Elly accomplished that feat before she turned 21 years old. Elly is incredibly talented 👍🏼!

Laysha were originally a dance group doing covers. Ironically they went viral for videos of one member dancing, just as EXID blew up over Hani's fancam of Up & Down. Hani's fancam has over 37 million views. Also I believe this isn't the original music video. This video was made in response to the success of the song and the first version lost for all time. Prior to debut EXID had another member UJi who left and became a member of BESTie. Highly recommend their MV for 'Excuse Me' which has a really fun concept and great visuals but mostly it has vocals. EXID's loss was BESTie's gain. Oh and yes ...E X I D the letters, not exid the word.

Hey Mr and Miss coach great reaction as always 😅 Many fans are able to swear to the feet together that the songs are not with ulterior motives.. But a few years ago, there was a big wave of cunt-style kpop songs. That is, more sensual and provocative. More mature and grown-up that appealed more to "adult" people. So you're not wrong to think that way. There are still some such groups today, but not that many. But if you want to dig deeper, I recommend a new group called Kiss of life (songs - bad news and nobody knows) or a solist Hyolyn with songs like Dally or Layin' low. If you want something older, I recommend the group you saw, Laysha (it could be this song) or for example the soloist Gain with the song "paradise lost" for exemple

Up& Down is just you can't have just one part;P that was statement that their sexy choreos being banned, because they are females, in the same time male idols can do really trash/seductive moves and media are good with it.
