The wonderful jazz vocalist Al Jarreau wrote the lyrics and released the song in 1980. It is considered a jazz standard, a difficult one and challenging one, but a jazz standard nonetheless. Al Jarreau does some scatting in his performance of this also.

He sounds like Al Jarreau. I never heard of "Spain", but I have heard of the jazz great Chick Corea. That rangy part he did in the beginning is most likely in the original song, he was trying to set the mood with it but broke character 😂. It takes a lotta concentration to get the word pronunciating and scat singing right. The latter part of the scat where he got soft made me smile 🙂
