Yes, I'm always surprised when reactors just go past this line. I wonder if they just are so blown away they don't have anything to say, or if they subliminally "don't get it" that first time. It's a shocking and moving line, and truly tells you more about Ren than you thought you needed to know.

Thats Rens specialty... bringing forth thought and discussion on topics usually banned from todays restricted internet! Hes even choosen song titles to test that... one in particular titled Suic!de cant even be posted or shared without changing the word itself! Makes ya wonder... what the heck over!?!?!? This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet. The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

Great reaction! I also am interested in what makes great art, but more specifically how some artists are able to achieve greatness using very little. Obviously I was massively impressed by this 9 minute long one-take of a man sitting in one spot with a single guitar, but then I heard Ren say that because he's never had any money, his most expensive video budget was 1,000 pounds ($1,200 max) and that most were made for closer to 100 pounds. (Some were even made with zero budget.) No sets (he sneaks into spots he likes acoustically), no wardrobe (it's all his clothes), and no actors or hired camera people (they're all his friends). Without knowing that I WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED the 80 or so videos of his I've watched were made on a shoestring. They're COMPLETELY professional and usually mesmerizing. Ren is THE object lesson in how great art can be produced with MASSIVE TALENT and virtually no money. What he produces is astonishing (and, yes, he produces all his own music and conceives all the videos.) Enjoy the ride, brother!

a great reaction to a great song/story/performance!! the first time i heard this it made me cry, and each release we get from ren he normally does some form of community post on his youtube channel that explains a bit about the song and where he was mentally and physically when he wrote it. Sick Boi goes alongside Hi Ren i think, as he has been through a 15+ year 'relationship' with the medical industry with 7 years of misdiagnosis for what ended up being lymes disease caused by a tick bite. the doctors told him it was all in his head and put him on cocktails of different pills that have caused massive damage to him. he is currently in canada (has been there since early this year) getting treatment to try and repair some of the damage thats been caused to him, he seems in a much better place now than he was a year ago when he wrote Hi Ren, but he is still a long way from being better. You should check out more of his songs, like i say sick boi goes along with hi ren, also chalk outlines live version with chinchilla is incredible, also suicide is self explanatory from when he was at his lowest point (and also has a section that refers to his best friend joe who committed suicide 13 years ago), Crutch is also heartbreaking and was made when he was stuck in bed virtually all the time. None of his music follows a pattern, every one is totally different in style and genre you never really know what you are gonna get. He has plenty of fun music too like his Love Music series (1-4), Losing it retake from an EDM track by Fisher, Power, there are plenty more!!!! you got a sub and a like from me!

Welcome to the world of Ren! I enjoyed your insightful reaction😊 Further suggestions to look at below! He’s exceptionally talented - lyrically, musically, artistically. I’d honestly say he’s a once-in-a-generation musical genius, a poet & a modern day Shakespeare. He performs a lot of his songs live & in one take (like this). For a similar style of song - powerful, deep and moving (he spans all genres from acoustic to rap to rock etc) I highly recommend “Chalk Outlines” (the live version) with Chinchilla and “How to be Me” (again with chinchilla) plus “For Joe” and “Freckled Angels”which are both about his very best friend who “un-alived” himself. I’m being careful with my words so my comment isn’t deleted by KZfaq. It’s a tragic true story where Ren ran to the bridge to help his friend but it was too late & it clearly had a massive impact on him. “The Tales of Jenny & Screech” followed by “Violet’s Tale” (it’s a trilogy which really needs to be listened to in one go) shows Ren as a bard. He’s a gifted storyteller & poet. “Blind Eyed” featuring Sam Tompkins also showcases his singing ability along with rap. There’s a studio version & a busking version on the streets of Brighton, but the version/ video on KZfaq “featuring angry car park attendant” is absolutely brilliant (I won’t spoil it by saying why) so it’s worth watching that one! Ren’s been through a lot in his life & he pours his heart & soul out. I guess what you need to know is that he lost about a decade of his life in his 20s to Lyme Disease. He’s 33 now. It was misdiagnosed & he got given medication he didn’t need for conditions he didn’t have which messed his head up. The Lyme Disease ravaged his body for years & left him confined to his house & bed on deaths door, missing out on life & being dropped after he was going to be signed by Sony, because he was just too sick. I relate because the exact same thing happened to me & I lived in the exact same city too, Brighton (a random coincidence). Drs didn’t realise it was Lyme Disease making me ill either - despite me actually making a point of seeing a dr when I first became sick because I had what I now know is the classic “bullseye rash” from the tick bite - I guess back then drs just weren’t that aware of it. I was told my blood tests showed an infection, but they didn’t find out WHAT infection & I wasn’t given any antibiotics. I had no idea how serious it was or how life-destroying it was going to be. I just thought I had flu until it never went away & got worse. Ren’s story is unfortunately all too common. You get given medication after medication & when you don’t get better you’re told that it’s all in your head because every blood test they do comes back as normal. Drs don’t routinely test for Lyme disease. By the time they did test for it & find it in my bloodstream (about 11yrs later) my entire world had fallen apart by being so sick for so long & the physical damage had been done. They even discovered it’d crossed the blood-brain barrier (in me) causing irreversible neurological damage. I don’t have the talent that Ren does to express his battles, his struggles, his feelings & experiences. I feel so grateful that he’s able to raise awareness & help others through his music. He speaks for all of us - anyone with any chronic illness or mental health struggles & I’m so pleased he’s getting the recognition he deserves. Even if someone hasn’t experienced this, I think people can relate to struggling at some point with our inner critic & our own personal problems. His music expresses what it is to be human and people need to hear it in the world we live in right now. He’s been fortunate enough to have a stem cell transplant & then go through treatment in Canada (which is still ongoing) to help repair his body as much as possible. The NHS in the UK is wonderful 99% of the time, but unfortunately with Lyme Disease they can’t do anything except offer a month of antibiotics (if they diagnose it straight away). The problem is that there’s no single specific medically approved treatment (worldwide) for those of us that weren’t diagnosed early-on, but various drs globally try different experimental approaches & some treatments seem to help some people. I’m so thankful that Ren has seen some improvement & is able to write & produce these masterpieces. I hope you enjoy the journey discovering his music!

Hey Thea, love your comment. Gotta say your voice is effective, different to Ren's but important and needed. I come from life-long misdiagnosis, which led to a lot of serious health complications and trauma. rare genetic disoder that really kicked off early 20s and finally diagnosed at 41yrs. Extreme gaslighting with "all in your head... hmmmm, this is weird... um wait how did you fracture a vertebrae and get a hole in your lung while rolling onto your side in an ED bed, I've only been with the other patient 7 mins!! Oh shit, how did I just dislocate both your shoulders?_ * Doctors really hated me, or I terrified them, or they broke into sweating geeky teens exclaiming WOW! or they were just stuck asking if I'm sure I'm human. but similar to Lyme also with the frequent misdiagnosis and long time to reach diagnosis, and a massive uphill battle for the patient. Also comes with free MCAS due to constant micro-injury and fractures, which is another spanner is the works... they don't know what to do with my genetic stuff and MCAS. But at least that led me to Ren following an algorithm EDS/MCAS post lecture surprise appearance. My stuff is guaranteed to get progressively worse eventually, but at least not as fast a roll downhill now I've been formally diagnosed 2 years ago. And may even get some improvements now getting my slightly different body function taken into consideration. Did initially self diagnose, studied biomedical science to try figure or what the fuck was going on... Was told I was delusional for a couple of years, finally convinced a geneticist to test after multiple atraumatic spinal fractures. Then it took another 18 months during covid to get two other specialist medical doctors to sign off on formal diagnosis, which is a hard bar to pass. It can be diagnosed without the genetic testing by a single specialist, but they'd been so certain cases didn't present like "me" and would never be missed in childhood or early adulthood. I've been in a re-education campaign. And I'll leave it there because drained, but fuck were here, and we made it this far, and I'll be looking out for you around the place!! MCAS treatment is really going places and can help Lyme damage hugely, and stem cell therapy might help me.. who knows. My genes shouldn't have made it this far.

@@Skittenmeow Hi there! Thanks for the reply & sharing your story too. I’m so sorry to hear what you’ve gone through. I also have EDS & MCAS along with the usual comorbidities of EDS (but didn’t mention it because I was just trying to explain Ren’s issue with Lyme which happened to me too & I thought people might think I’m being weird if I list several pages of issues😂). I was diagnosed with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome in 1988 after my first dislocation as a kid - but despite that, my entire life no one (drs) had any clue that lots of other issues that you’d never imagine were linked, were actually caused by EDS and I was gaslit with all that too, until I saw a specialist in EDS when I was 40, who formally diagnosed EDS & explained exactly why I was having all these other issues that were dismissed for years & reassured me it isn’t in my head or psychosomatic! The only thing in my head was Lyme and a damaged pituitary gland (that’s a whole other story though). It was so frustrating after the obvious tick bite being missed by the GP & only getting tested for Lyme 11yrs later (after demanding it!) to discover it’s still present in my blood & brain. Sometimes I feel like giving up because the NHS has no treatment for Lyme that’s been undiagnosed for so long. There’s no medically accepted peer-reviewed treatment that “works” for people who’ve had Lyme for so long. I’ve begged & pleaded & every time I present a new study I’ve read, the consultant would say the dr who did the study (usually in the US, but not always) has no credentials & the study has flaws & I can’t try that particular treatment. I was told to accept this is my new normal. Seeing the difference in Ren’s health has given me some hope that maybe one day the NHS will try to treat it in the same way & maybe I might feel a bit better. I’m now trying a carnivore diet in desperation to try & starve the Lyme of manganese (which apparently it thrives on) and to help my MCAS (on the advice of my rheumatologist). I knew I was reacting to so many foods - it was obvious to me - mostly vegetables - but I continued eating them thinking vegetables were an important part of our diet, until my rheumatologist actually told me to stop eating most vegetables! I felt I was going against everything I’d ever learnt - vegetables are good for you & you need them, right? WRONG! The thing is my EDS has got progressively worse over the years, just as you’re describing too, so part of me thinks, is there any point in trying everything I can think of (without having the money to pay privately for stem cell transplants or experimental treatment abroad) to help my body heal from Lyme, if my EDS is going to continue getting worse. Like you say, we can’t change our genes or the way we were born with faulty collagen. On my bad days when I’m fed up with it all, I now seek comfort & strength from Ren’s music & the knowledge that there are so many of us going through the same thing. I think a community of people who are living this, going through it together, helps so much with the emotional side of chronic illness, the longing to feel “normal” & the sadness of seeing everyone around you do the things you wish you could do. As Ren always says, we need to lift each other up & be there for each other. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences & I’ve already signed the EDS petition to raise more awareness & education in the medical community in the UK so that it doesn’t take 40yrs or more to get a diagnosis & to be believed. Hopefully the next generation won’t be gaslit by drs, like we have been. Much love to you 🫶 🤗

The idea of 'gods' is a classic example of illogical syllogism... A is B, therefore B must be A. Or to put it simply "All thumbs are fingers, therefore all fingers must be thumbs". Early humans made great leaps forward when they developed self-awareness and rudimentary logical thinking skills. They learned that they could change their environment rather than just living with whatever changes happened around them. When given the realization they could intentionally change things, they made the false leap of logic that ALL changes in the world were therefore the intentional acts of a conscious being (a powerful, yet invisible being or group of beings). And thus 'gods' were born. The wind is blowing? Well, there must be a wind god. There's thunder booming in the sky? Well, there must be a thunder god. Early religions tended to have an ever-growing group of gods to explain everything they didn't understand. Eventually, most whittled it down to a single being that was responsible for everything that they lacked the intellect to grasp.

I really like the genuineness of your reaction. I have watched over 30 different people react to this song and the beautiful emotions that break through to tears for so many. This song has allowed a space that is growing bigger everyday for men and woman to cry, laugh, support eachother from all around the world. The more RENEGADES who love the Renreality and are empowered to do better and be better and be us and always lift eachother up, never down regardless of the person they choose to be. Ren writes alot of music about how the world is at scary point that soon wont be able to come back from. It talks about how all governments and media and corporations and how they need us to be divided as people and they cause us the division money lines the pockets of the powerful if we dont like eachother. And we all need to come together and make a better world. Also how humanity is bleeding our earth and resources out of greed. He also feels very strongly on the problems, injust and unequal access to health care and the cost that many people cant pay. How we need to change it to allow everyone the same access. Ren is so much more than a masterful artists more thsn that he an amazing human. He continuously tells his fans how thankful he is for us, how we helped him to save himself by his therapy through music. He is openly honest emotional humble is true and he put himself completely out there live chats w fans on his twitch etc. He has caused a movement of his quote "rising tides lift up all ships" he loves all reactors and appreciates them all his fans and the reactors instead of all fighting for subscribers from one to the other are positively promotingveachothers channels saying words of love about eachother and promoting positivity as the youtube world is moved by Rens following and their love for others to experience ren we do come in masses!!! Thank you for your kind insightful reaction. Ren is an amazing artist with many genres to explore. For me the greatest insight was when Ren reached 1 million subscribers and did a humble acceptance to share his gratitude outwardly to help others ❤
