Bird was also calling most of his shots in this game and they still couldn’t stop him! That speaks highly to who is the greatest to do what he did. That’s also not the Celtics home crowd standing in ovation for him, it’s the opponents!!

In this game, Bird was 22 for 36 from floor & 15-16 Free Throw, & only 1 3Pt FG...& had a stretch in 2nd half where he scored 32 pts in 14 minutes! This was in 1985, he averaged for the season 28.7 Pts..10.5 Reb ..6.6 Assists. (2nd of 3 straight MVPs). Bird & Curry? Curry is a great long range shooter, Bird was a great long range shooter, short range shooter, defender on him shooter, left handed shooter. Edge: Bird. Also, the #21 Atlanta defender guarding Bird in this 60pt game was Dominique Wilkins ( one of the most athletic players in history...HOFer).

The one who made that pass was the late great DJ Dennis Johnson Even Larry Bird said he was the greatest teammate he ever had because his intellect was on par with Bird when it came to plays. Remember that moment when "Bird steals the ball!" Who was the one he coordinated with to get the bucket? That's right DJ!

Larry legend was the most complete player to ever play. He was unstoppable, could shoot from anywhere. He was the smartest most clutch player I ever saw play. His will to win was remarkable. If you gave him a chance to win the game, he would stick a dagger in you heart. I only saw him miss 1 clutch shot in 13 season

#3 is the late great D.J., Dennis Johnson. The guy Magic called "the best backcourt defender of all-time". Who did the Hawks have? Carr, Webb, Wilkins, Rivers, and some other good players. Oh, and Eddie Johnson, that is the guy that falls off the bench I think. Great game. Good reaction.

Check out the crowd. The game was played in New Orleans and the fans gave Larry a standing ovation at the end of the game. Nobody was leaving their seats. Everyone is standing, clapping in amazement. Crap.... I watched this game in a bar when I was 23 years old. I thought I had too much to drink, because I couldn't believe the shots Bird was making. The funny caveat is that Bird was talking trash the entire time. Robert Parish said that Bird was taking trash to the players, the bench, the Hawks coaches, and even the referee's. 😂😂😂

Aram, nice story man 👍. HOWEVER, (like Bill Burr does when he's about to drop straight truth and facts 😆) WHO do you believe had more "SHOTS" that HISTORICAL night, you or Larry??🤔 j\k man 🙂. Between Larry's flawless 3 pointers, 2's and foul shouts; I wonder how many "shots" he actually took to eventually end up with 60 POINTS at the end of the game. 🍿😳🤯

Larrys # was 33, (# 3 was the late (great) hall of famer Dennis Johnson), also called D.J. - one of Larrys favorite players to ball with according to Larry himself, they worked together like clockwork in passing and assists, scoring etc. the more games you watch the more you see how great DJ actually was in assists, scoring and passing - a bonafide hall of famer, it was a shame when he passed before his time.

Larry's shot motion from the top of his head is actually better than pulling it from your chin in my experience. Being a shorter player at only 5'11" and having only modest hops, I tried shooting like this and found it to be superior for a few reasons. First, it's being shot from about 4 to 6 inches higher than a standard jump shot, which makes it harder to block. Second, the release is quicker, again, making it harder for an opponent to time a block. Third, it was harder to strip the ball during the shooting motion. I also found that it allowed me to sight the ball better (i.e. watch it from my hand to the basket). I tried both ways during intermural basketball league, and I ended up sticking with Bird's technique. It worked well for me, and some folks actually started referring to me as 'Baby Bird', which I took as a HUGE compliment, given he was my basketball hero. Great reaction. Thanks for giving props to Bird!

Brother, I'm 64 now. I grew up watching, at the Arena, the Spurs (MY team!) when it had George Gervin (Iceman)! NO ONE was smoother! HOF! Then I got season tickets when they got Tim Duncan, KNOWING he was a star in the making! Then here comes "The Admiral", David Robinson! The they got Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. San Antonio is not a huge, massive city like LA or Chicago, but what it does have is EXTREMELY loyal and loud Spurs fans! And I was one any chance I got! What the Spurs had then, winning so much at that time, and what many teams DON'T have in today's time, is "teamwork"! Selflessness. It's mostly about individual stars, and how much can "I" shine, and that doesn't win! Nor does it draw the public, who HATE ball hogs and selfish "heroes". A team wins championships, and not individuals. Good reactions!

When he ended up in the trainers lap, he told the Hawks bench he was going "make a 3 pointer and fall into the trainer lap. When he did it that was when the Hawks player fell off his chair, and the other 2 guys gave each other high fives. They called off the 3 pointer, they called it a foul, but he was not touched, he landed into the trainer, because he called it. LEGENDARY!

The reason why so many would-be defenders didn't "step up" on Bird is because they were afraid of getting burned. Bird up made up for his lack of speed with brains. If a defender stepped up on him, there was a very real chance Bird would either find a way to get around him, hit him with his patented up fake (which sometimes literally got defenders to fall over), or hit a cutter with one of his no-look passes..or fake the pass and stroke the shot a la Maravich. I've never seen another player who could beat you in as many ways as Larry Bird, even though he couldn't reverse dunk from the free throw line.

That guy you're saying is getting cooked (#21 for Atlanta) is HALL OF FAMER Dominique Wilkins. Dominique was probably the best player on this Hawks team (the other two that could make that claim are Doc Rivers and Kevin Willis). Yes, Cliff Levingston and Eddie Johnson did get fined. Doc Rivers tells the story to Dan Patrick about the film session after this game, where Coach Mike Fratello rewound the clip of the end of the bench celebrating about 20 times. That one at the end, he comes down the floor talking s*** like always, saying "Rainbow, trainer's lap. Who wants it?" It didn't count because he was fouled before the shot got off.

If Larry Bird hadn't hurt his back midway through his career he would have equaled Jordan's 6 rings. No doubt in my mind. And Bird is the most naturally gifted player/shooter to ever play. I looked up a 13 season stat comparison between Bird and Curry the other day and they were very similar. But, when you look at the whole picture...Bird played in a far more physical era than Curry. Bird was also a better well rounded player. And Bird had the brains, balls, and more dedication to his team and general love of the game than just about anyone ever. Bird was an assassin and the true G.O.A.T.
