Because...........it's a sense of hope that masterfully crafted music can survive in this world of technical mumbo jumbo. We lived it. We experienced it as a mind, body, spirit event each time we listened and we were aware of the intricacies, but we couldn't have imagined or predicted where "music" would go in the future..........let's hope that true vocals, instrumental mastery, and lyrical significance can re-emerge in these days of ignorance, fear, and digitization.

This brings me back fifty years. You can't imagine how big an impact Yes, ELP, and The Moody Blues had on an impressionable 15 year old. This, Jeff Beck, and Santana's Caravanserie completly changed how I listened to music. Welcome to the madness of the 70's that brought us Rush, Kansas, Zeplin, Heart, Queen, and a host of other bands that shattered the imagination of a generation. For teens with no other social media avalable, this was their go to form of communication. You can't imagine how important this music was to me and my friends, enjoy.

Not to be indifferent but your mainstream list was not at all as adventurous as the other pure Prog and Fusion bands of that era, like Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, PFM, Curved Air, Mahavisnhu Orchestra, Weather Report, Return to Forever and many many more less popular yet completely underappreciated groups that rarely got radio air time except on eclectic independent stations

The most magical era in modern music history. YES and others were actually creating the various diverse styles of this new genre one album at a time so you never knew what to expect next unlike today's more generic music era. The greatest influencers were all unique to themselves & YES moved to the top because of their imaginative skills at incorporating seamless changes in timing, rhythms, textures and moods all within each song while producing longer epics for their growing hungry Prog audience. This quintessential 5 Star line up also created the masterpiece album CTTE.

You are off to a great start. But you knew that a few weeks ago when you discovered YES. In 6 years ('71-’77) they composed and released 6 extraordinary albums, including a 2 disc set. The Yes Album-Fragile-Close to the Edge-Tales from Topographic Oceans-Relayer-Going for the One. Progressive Rock evolution at it’s most pristine. Squire’s bottom, Howe's frenetic frets, Bruford/White’s subtle/bombastic skins, Wakeman’s contolled passion on a mountain of Keyboards(he also has 96 solo albums) and of course Jon Anderson, our YES cult leader with pipes from heaven and lyrics from a cosmic mind. Go, or Go ahead.

Yes can be challenging for a listener who isn't familiar with Classical, Jazz and album oriented Art, Concept an Prog Rock. They often play complex and dense polyphonic and ployrhytmic music, accented by some of the most gorgeous melodies, harmonies and singing that you've ever heard. Newby listeners who are unfamiliar with Prog will often go from, "What the hell is this crap?" to "Who is this? Wow! That's beautiful".

I suppose you are right, back in 1975, at 13, I wasn't a loner, I had friends, but not friends who cared for YES. I did have an older brother with a huge record collection, and a killer stereo. After consuming everything Yes had done by then, I could always count on Yes to take me out of this world, with not only Jon's cryptic lyrics, but the fact that they were the best musicians creating compositions which were beyond anything else I had heard. Sitting alone with Yes cranked up is transcendent, and You haven't even gotten to Tales From Topographic Oceans yet. When you title a song "The Revealing Science Of God" that sets the bar pretty high right there.

I'd recommend "Roundabout" as your next Yes song. It's from the same album as "Heart of the Sunrise", and is probably their best known song (though not necessarily their best song) from their "classic" period of the 1970's. No Yes concert was complete without a performance of "Roundabout."

This album inspired me to learn guitar, piano and bass. I tried drums but I sounded so terrible on it. I went to most of their early concerts and got heavily into music. Almost a dream of mine to grew up to be a musician, but then I saw and got to know a lot of night club musicians going from town to town, day in day out, and hours and hours of practicing and playing the same songs day in day out.

YES, the song Close to the Edge, and Music of the Spheres, by Argent inspired me as a 15 year old musician with 9 years of music lessons on 5 different instruments to co-found a Progrock band in 1980. Never made a penny, didn't get famous, but I lived my dream to create original music. So many memories, experiences impossible to duplicate; especially the improvisations, jam sessions, and those magical moments when everything finally comes together playing LIVE. No regrets.

It's repetition and returning to themes and variations gets in your blood; music should stir the soul and this song is a masterpiece. Watching you discover it, your puzzlement at the start -- but the song has its logic and in time you grasped it deeply. Thanks!!! It was a delight to watch you discover this and take this trip.
