Hey!! Sup?
Yo'
Chuck here with Humphry Gold, KZfaq Channel Original Artist - and is from a beautiful African descent which shines through in his music. so when i pick songs for a first listen, i am keeping his African influence in mind, so starting his first listen with Sound Chaser would be out of the question, as i would not want to scare him half to death, with such a crazy song!!!lol.
So Close to the Edge? And You and I? Awaken. Or let's go back to the beginning and showcase YES with a BANG! right out of the gate- Full Throttle- Rick Steve Chris and Bill BANG - Heart of the Sunrise.
Humphry will get to listen to YES hit it hard, then slows it down,, build it up again ,Bam full throttle till the morning Sun rises and Jon shows up and let's Humphry hear Jon's voice for the first time and Heart of the Sunrise, we'll Jon's voice , you know, simply amazing. Chris is show cased as well as Bill. Enjoy!! #reaction

Gotta say...I really like the idea of introducing first time listeners to YES music via a cranked up stereo system presentation. Some guy decided to expose his like 14-y.o. son to the complexity of Close To The Edge via a modest living room playback system kept at a moderate level to allow conversation & the kid was clearly not appreciating what he was hearing. I told the guy in the comments that at the very least, if you want to impress a first listener with YES music, you MUST do it on headphones OR have the volume cranked up so loud that conversation is impossible. YES' mastery of complexity (of composition) can only be appreciated in those circumstances. Having it playing in the background while you're having a conversation is a waste of time. Kudos!

Thank you and "YES" ur correct, PUn intended,,lol...And with Chris on Bass Pedals, you need to shake the foundation of the house for someone to understand the POWER of Mr. (the docter himself) Chris Squire,, They came to SPAC and Chris was wearing scrubs,,wow So a 2 sub woofer home theater system is in order or like you said forget it..wait for that one... i will be blowing Humprey away with Starship trooper,, any suggestions which version???

This is one of my favorite Yes songs. Mostly because of Bill Bruford, but also because it's the first song on the Classic Yes album, which was my first exposure to pre-90125 Yes.

Great song to first introduce to someone. Everyone showcases so well, with Squire and Bruford holding a rock solid bottom, Squire working so well melodically with Howe, and Howe being absolutely spot on with Wakeman's keyboards. And Jon's voice and lyrics riding on the cresting waves they send to the shore. YES. GOAT. Blessings.

I was just a teen and had never even smoked pot when I bought this lp. Lucky for me that Yes’s music is potent enough that it needs no additives. I was so anxious for Close to the Edge to be released that my first listen did make me feel high. Total Mass Retain had been the flip side of the America 45 and I was blown away by both songs. In 2023 I’m still listening to Yes, Gentle Giant, Bill Bruford, King Crimson, pre-AM Genesis(I think their music suffered when Steve Hackett left), Roxy Music, some Pink Floyd, etc. Still my go-to choices. Classical music as well over the years. I wasn’t impressed with the new remix of Close to the Edge; it gave the piece a lot of sharp edges that divided the music into separate sections and affected the flow in a negative way. I didn’t bother to any listen to any more of the new remixes although I really like the cover art. Just an opinion.

GreAnother band that could change the way or help you with your writing of music is Radiohead another band that has great and unorthodox arrangements. Great choice such a beautiful song but it still rocks I much prefer Yes with Bruford and I know White was a great drummer in is own right but Bruford swings like no other rock drummer. I think he will like Rush but try Radiohead a lot of people do not know how great they are.

WTF? Soundchaser has more 'African' influenced rhythms than any of the other Yes material. You're confusing the African-American duple rythms typical of blues and funk with traditional African rhythms, which are much more complex and based in syncopated and fluctuating odd meters. Miles Davis himself said Americans go to school to learn the type of syncopation African's learn in childhood. Just try counting the different meters happening at the same time in this traditional Afican song "Buganda Music Ensemble - Anamwinganga" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMp8dqup2MrLk6s.html

Agreed, i was just trying to relay that being of an African influence, that something like close to the Edge or Gates our Ritual being epic long masterpieces of music, might be a bit to much for a first listen. Heart long not too long showcases everyone's talent we'll..
