When this went out live on television in 1992 (Freddie Mercury tribute) the part where Axl gets the crowd to sing was so loud that you couldn't hear Tracey and Roberta singing along

Not true at all. I have this concert on VHS video and have seen it many times. This video on this reaction is exactly how us viewers saw and heard it. Producers obviously put more attention to the mics on the performers than the crowd.

@@CrociatoAzzurro I saw it aired live as it was happening on UK Channel 4 and the crowd were deafening when guns n roses came on. (probably because they were one of the biggest bands in the world at the time) vhs and dvd copies will have been sound edited so you get maximum sound of the band you could still hear guns n roses playing live on tv probably due to onstage live sound editing but that couldn't control the crowd noise when they sing to no music playing. When the Beatles toured America girls in the crowd would scream so loud that the band couldn't be heard playing. watch the the same shows on vhs/dvd and you can hear them playing just fine

this is the best version of the song but in the last 4 Knockin' On Heaven's Door for the video the singing of the public in its turn is not well appreciated this is corrected in Knockin' On Heaven's Door live was that it is the same song, in the same concert but with better quality and when axl shouts the last 4 Knockin' On Heaven's Door the public there sounds completely spectacular definitely listening to Knockin' On Heaven's Door from live era with headphones at maximum is definitely another level even higher.

A good band but given too much hype in the day. Never saw them. At that time (1986) there were better acts to go see and a lot of new bands tried to copy whoever was the hot act of the moment (see the band Creed) through the 90's.

Man, I guess only a few people are gonna agree with you. Dylan deserves a lot of credit for being the creator, but what gnr did with the song is in another level. And Axl vocals... my God. What a powerful voice this man used to have
