It's a tribute to the acting and directing that "I am that guy" is the most expected line in the scene and it *still* impacts with that power.

True, however I think that it's the "...he's my best friend in the whole world..." that's obviously the most touching and powerful line in the entire scene. Look at the reactions of literally every one of the reactors here, and they all have an obvious "aww..." moment at that. Conversely every one of them predicts the whole "I am that guy" ending - true, they all have a brief moment of "Yeah, right on!" but it's not anywhere as meaningful because it's been built up to and telegraphed across the entire episode.
@ScottRutter

@@MisterMac4321 I don't think anyone would disagree on that point. I do think it's the actors' performances that make that one work so well Terry Chen as Prax delivers the line with such earnest care that we truly believe Prax was changed by his ordeal to arrive at this moment. Wes Chatham's response as Amos is so perfect for the moment, I swear I could see the character thinking "I can *do* that? Be someone's friend?"

Indeed. Way too often shows these days are obsessed with "subverting expectations", which often just comes across as lazy writing where things come out of left field just because, with nothing leading up to it. This scene sets up expectations and then delivers on them, and it works perfectly BECAUSE it makes sense and BECAUSE it's what we expect to happen given what we know of Amos's character.

The moment that I *really* give them credit for is that slight pause Amos has right after the airlock door closes. As Amos ushers his 'best friend in the whole world' away from becoming a murderer, the airlock door closing is like flipping a switch, and you can see just from the slight change in Chatham's posture that Amos has put on his "game face" way before we actually see that face.

@@jacobjackson1541 Amos doesn't take pride in who he is, but he doesn't deny it either. He knows he has done some unspeakable things and knows that out of all of the nightmares he has made for himself, this is hardly going to scratch the surface. He has accepted that this part of himself exists, and he doesn't glorify it about himself. He doesn't emphasize that HE is that guy nor is THAT GUY being emphasized to imply that he enjoys it either. He just happens to be that guy and that coincidence is the notable part of that little part of the interaction.

Why Amos is the most scary character: he was very calm. He chose this, instead of losing his temper. I bet he didn't even feel much adrenaline. He simply knew that prax was his friend, and prax needed to be a dad, not a killer.

Two things (Aside from the usual) that struck me with this scene. When Amos turns around, his eyes are like a shark's. Dead, flat, devoid of life or light. That and even at that range, he's pro enough to STILL use his weapon's sight. He doesn't risk the kill or the wasted ammo on half-assing it. He sights in and pulls like he would under combat conditions.

This was the best scene to me in the Expanse series. It shows so much about Amos's character and how he does see that he rather not have an innocent and good man lose his soul and choses to take that blood on his hands. This shows that Amos is not just an heartless killer but a true good man.

i love this scene in many levels, one because is a baddas scene full of heart but also let us know the type of character building this series do so good, but also by doing this, he is shielding the "normal guy" from doing something he will regret his whole life out of vengeance and wrath, Amos knows this pain very well, he doesnt want his "best friend" to go trough it, and thats why he responds like this, after hearing those words, he know hes a good persona and a good father, he doesnt want him to taint himself with murder. Also this is as i picture soldiers in te battlefield and what the door closing represent, they shield us from having to be figthing to mantain the normal life we have, even if it means they have to do things that will haunt them the rest of their lives and also close the door so we dont have to see and feel guilty for them............. this show is gonna be miss and while a couple of episodes in the 5th season dragged a little but and the 6th was way to rushed, it was astill a hell fo a ride, i hope it get taken again, the 6th season remade and get to adapt the rest of the books

Amos is easily one of the best written characters on the Expanse, which considering the strength of the writing overall is really saying something. He's introduced and often introduces himself as the hyper-violent pet-psychopath, but what they build on is the fact that Amos sort of knows that violence and killing have damaged him. Amos knows he's a monster and he saw for a moment that Prax was, justifiably, ready to corrupt himself with that same taint, and he stepped in to prevent Prax from doing something that would likely haunt him for the rest of his life. Really shows how far Amos has come, barely halfway through the show's run.

I've watched this scene many times and it used to bother me that as the audience, you don't see Amos open the door and walk in. But I think the creators are putting us in Prax and Strickland's POV. They were both so stressed from the intense situation they're in, that neither of them even notice Amos opening the door.

Further to my point below, I think Amos character pulled it off in a chilling way! Cold calculated, no problem doing it, it was chilling in a good way!

Guy who wanted " Daddy Day-care " starring Amos . CHEENIOUS ! I had to stop the Video until I recovered . This is SUCH a DEEP Scene . So many layers to it really . And a Nominee for Best Scene , in the Entire Show as Pure ACTING . Amos Should have allowed Prax kill Strickland , but , instead spared his Friend from doing something that would destroy him inside . Amos was GROWING enormously , as a Person , at this point in the Show . The Sociopath was receding . The Specialist was emerging .

Ironically, I viewed the scene where Holden had to make the choice to blow up the hospital ship as more Shepard. That and the whole "This is the warship Rocinante" speech.

Amos is the man. Making the hard choice is always a hard decision, but the more you do it the easier it gets to justify. It's never the right choice, but at the same time it's not always the wrong choice. Definitely a paradoxical conclusion. Prax is a good man and Amos knows what he is. He doesn't want prax to live with what he was going to do. I can relate

If Prax had said, "Let him live," Amos would have done so. He wouldn't have understood why, but he'd have followed the lead of the person he knew was moral and good. But because Prax had clearly decided Strickland should be killed, Amos protected his moral compass.
