How the hell on earth would you add cm and mm? Dont you not need to convert the centimetres into millimetres and then add..or vice versa? Other than that the explaination is wonderful though you forgot on the part where to get the readings, the vernier scale must be slide over the main scale.

He made the conversion directly. Recall that the vernier scale is in mm, so instead of 3mm, it becomes 0.03cm

@@mercysama198 Nooo....he made an error there....the main scale there, is in cm and the vernier scale is in mm....and that number on the vernier scale is 3×0.01=0.03mm.....if he is to add this to the main scale which is in cm then this 0.03mm must be converted to those cm! Otherwise it is still not making sense to me on the units there! However his explanation is still wonderful!
