Im a young 21 year old hunter I scouted some great buck bedding and found a very nice shed this spring thanks to many tactics I’ve learned from this channel and your DVD’s ! The best buck bedding i scouted is along a small marshy opening along a creek through surrounded by hardwoods a “thermal hub” and by no means do I feel like I got it figured it out but I think I got a pretty good idea. There is almost no sight advantage to the bed because it’s so thick but due to the high pressure I understand why the bucks are in this type of spot. I had the “awe” effect. I believe to get a crack at the buck I’m going to have to stay back from the transition so evening thermals don’t pull my scent into the toilet bowl effect of the opening. I’ll have to back off and hunt em off of exit trails I know are his because of the tracks and rubs I seen from spring scouting. We’ll see if I can figure this coming fall! Good luck to everybody this coming deer season.

One thing my gramp taught me was when you come across a track kick next to it in downward angle and compare the dirt color to the track that also tells you how fresh it is. He also would grab deer shit and feel if it's warm which I do both of these lol

Tracks will always be bigger and show the claws in mud or snow, especially old track in snow where the edges have melted a bit. But ya the 4 finger rule is what i use, especially on dry dirt, and if you get the claws on dry dirt it’s definitely a beast no doubt about it

Good video. An idea for a future talk is about whether deer, especially mature deer, recognize faces. Dogs recognize us. They will run up to their owner in a crowd. So it makes you think that mature deer can recognize our face from previous hunts. if so, how can their recognition impact our hunt?

So interesting! I've always used my method. Pointy toes. It's a buck. Rounded toes, it's a doe. Have had plenty of arguments with people over years over that. But I believe what I believe, because I've proven to myself over the years it's true. But the inside outside technique. It really never dawned on me. Damn. How could I not see that?!! I'm sure you've gone over little details like this, through a boatload of videos you've done. But for whatever reason, and there could be many, people didn't pick up on it. That's what I was saying, trying to relate to you, regarding buck bedding and doe bedding thing. You got a boatload of freaking knowledge there. I think you just need to, rehash your experiences. Break down these tidbits of information, that are not tidbits, because they offer so much knowledge, but have been kind of glassed over in the past because, people want to get to the kill shot or whatever. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. For me personally, I played the inside outside, three times. Then wrote it down. Just saying. That's the type of s*** I'm talking about when I reach out to U. You know your stuff's totally addicting, right? Sometimes I got to stop watching, because all I want to do is, sleep, dream, s***, scout, prep and hunt. It consumes me. Lolol. It's easier to blame you than myself. Lol😮

I have been able to locate a lot of bedding the past couple months by watching your video. Thanks for passing on your knowledge. When I find the beds, I look for hair and confirm they are beds. I have found some down to the dirt and others with small vegetation in them. So I assume when they are down to the dirt they are active beds and the others with vegetation are not being used or not being used a frequently. I would like to see a video on how you know what time of year a buck is bedding in a particular bed and why? I’m assuming they change beds during the year based on food source, the rut and pressure so if I’m summer scouting and find a bed I think is being used will that help me come fall? How do I find fall beds in summer? Thanks again

Do you typically look for tracks at creek beds, tributaries and other moist places to give you an idea of what section of woods to hunt or scout? I have a hard time developing an eye for tracks in hard woods. It seems they’re hard to see apart from a heavily used trail being beat down and no snow. Thanks

Hey Dan! Thanks for all you do, I’ve got a question about doe behavior right now, I’m in Vermont on 50 acres, my house looks over about 20 acre field so I watch the deer feed and whatnot everyday, dense woods surrounding the field, there’s plenty of feed but right now I have one doe, prolly last years, chasing off every single deer that steps out, for last few days, today one mature doe came up the hill and this doe came out and promptly ran her off, then about 30 minutes later another two stepped out and the aggressive doe came all the way across to run them off then came back out and fed a bit then walked into the tree line which is bedding, my question, why? 30 years I’ve been here and have never seen this, should I be concerned because I work hard to manage this property for deer, would this be over a fawn she’s protecting? I have seen one out a couple times but never with her.... thanks for all you do, I cannot tell you how much I say, well Dan says... to everyone and how much you’ve inspired me to turn my property into a hunting haven for my son.
@jessehoward8676
@jessehoward8676 3 жыл бұрын
As I wrote this, three doe showed up one with the dawn and two others seemed to be harassing the one with the fawn, and the one with the fawn looked like the aggressive doe I spoke of, I’ve never seen this, just wondering if you have and could shed light
@thehuntingbeast

@jessehoward8676
@jessehoward8676 3 жыл бұрын
@@thehuntingbeast I’m glad to hear you don’t know cause I’ve never seen nothing like it, in regards to personality we named the doe with the fawn spazzy a couple days ago cause she’s just over the top, my theory is, on one side is a primary doe bedding, then up too behind me is another, it almost seemed like the last couple days she had been trying to keep the other doe away from the lower bedding then today had enough and cleared out the other doe, went back got the fawn and moved her to the upper bedding, still doesn’t explain why the other doe were so aggressive towards the fawn and mother, my concern is her clearing the property of deer but tomorrow will tell, I wish I got video of today because it was nothing like I’ve ever seen, still sitting here trying to figure it out
