My Cambridge personal statement lol. In this video I read and break down my UCAS personal statement, which got me 5 offers from Cambridge, UCL, Bath, St. Andrew's and Durham. Some of my advice is specific to psychology and Psychological and Behavioural Sciences (PBS) at Cambridge, but in general my advice applies to all subjects and universities.

I'm Francis, a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at Oxford University. I previously did psychology degrees at Cambridge (Undergrad) and UCL (Master's). I upload videos every few weeks about psychology, university life and occasionally self-improvement.

I think your channel is particularly useful for those about to apply to a university, particularly Oxbridge, having attended a state school. Whereas public schools may have role plays and feedback for interviews, most state schools don´t prepare their sixth formers well enough.

although this advice prolly came a year late for me (already rejected from cambridge for PBS, firmed my offer at kcl instead), i still found it helpful and informative :) realising all the things i did wrong in my personal statement now... i remember i had a paragraph about psychologys place in the world as an intro too but my tutor struck it all out saying it was a no go to tell the admissions tutors about their own subject :'))

Sorry it was late for you Lisa! Congrats on gettin an offer from king's though:)) And that's so interesting your tutor struck that bit out? I can see where they were coming from but also.. ofc you're telling them about their own subject, you're applying to their courses🥴 I think it's about what in the subject specifically strikes you

Thank you for this video, Francis. I have graduated as ranked #1 from my psychology undergraduate and now I'll be applying to top unis in the UK, USA and The Netherlands. I'd appreciate it if you can give some tips for applying to masters' programmes as well!

I honestly admire you for putting so much effort in all these videos. I am studying my last year in the high school and going to finish it at 17 (I am not from the Western countries). I am very interested in studying in the UK and being an international student there. I have 2 years left before the actual application time, since I’ll need to end my high school and study for a one year foundation programme, but I began putting the first bricks of the building so called, as a “uni preps”. Sounds weird ik xD. Sooo I just wanted to thank you for the precious information provided. Hopefully I’ll get in touch with you when I’ll complete my personal statement. Cheers!

Hiii ! I find your video veryy helpful! Just a quick question, for applying through UCAS personal statement section, i saw that there is a word limit and line limit, but i also realised that spaces between paragraphs would also count as a line. Do you recommend deleting the lines between paragraphs (the entire essay looks like 1 paragraph) to save more lines for the writing, or delete some of current writings to keep the spaces between paragraphs. Thanks!

Already rejected from Cambridge too ;( but got in UCL and St.Andrews!!!!!! This video is really helpful and I think I can share it for people who will apply next year! ( BTW I am so struggling choosing uni lol, I love the atmosphere in St.Andrews as well as the opportunities in UCL :( Any suggestion?!?! Thx very much!!!

Congrats on getting UCL and st Andrews! Back in the day I chose st Andrews as my insurance over UCL butttt now I'm at UCL it isn't so bad😌 I think you'll be happy wherever you end up

Perhaps! But I think for my master's I talked less of the flamboyant stuff about the place of psychology in the world/my extra curricular activities

I can't believe I got a better score on the Hemingway APP than a Cambridge Grad. Also think it's a bit rubbish as it's wanting me to cut out important information.
