B Stoker's Dracula is very much a mixed media approach to story-telling. It uses diary entries, newspaper articles, bills of lading, and the like. That was the late 19th century. I don't know how much there is before then.

I loooove mixed media, this vlog was so fun!! If you haven’t read any of her books, Janice Hallett’s books are all mixed media and they’re sooo good. The Appeal is FANTASTIC and so hard to put down, and Alperton Angels was super fun as well!

I recommend Hidden Pictures. Great book and I think it’s mixed media because it has illustrations. A young boy starts drying scary pictures and the book has the pictures. They get more and more troublesome. I think it’s a mix of thriller and horror.

Murder in the Family was really good on audiobook- I would have DNF’d the book in physical form but it really worked on audio

Murder in the Family is the only book I’ve ever read that I would say you NEED the audiobook to enjoy it.

Really? That's so interesting to me because I want to read this book but I figured you'd NEED the physical book to see all the pictures and stuff. I'm not a huge fan of audiobooks, I find them more difficult to follow because I find myself zoning out. I was actually thinking that maybe the reason Gabby didn't like it was because she prefers audiobooks to reading physically. Huh.

@@agstah I recommend reading it with the audiobook but having the book open for the pictures. It is cool because every character (even small side characters) have a unique voice. It also makes the conversation flow like you are actually listening to a documentary.

I just finished Penance by Eliza Clark. It is a crime/thriller told in interviews, podcasts and on-line message boards. Quite a compulsive read!

true crime story was my favourite book of last year! for me it was the perfect mix of mixed media/true crime/thriller writing. i really loved how the ending played out and i think it felt scarier and more memorable leaving it the way it did. i also dnf’ed murder in the family quite early, the screenplay style writing felt overused and just didn’t really suit a book format for me unfortunately 😔 love this concept for a video and i’d love to see you read more mixed media books if you find any!

i had very similar thoughts! I love mixed media thrillers in theory and concept but those 2 didn't quite work for me either (murder in the family had such a DUMB ending too). janice hallett's are the only recent ones i've enjoyed a lot because she does a lot more character work

I DNF'd Murder in the Family mainly because it was difficult to read some of the parts with my glasses! Also I agree with you that I would like some conventional text with the mixed media.

Ohhh, did you read The Illuminae Files? It‘s two books. Mixed media, like security camera feeds, interviews and normal plot. Takes place in space and I looooooove them i wish I could read them again for the first time!!!!! Really,really, if you haven’t… check them out! Love your summerween!!!

Ok this is not a thriller buuuut it's an amazing mixed media sci-fi serise. It's called the illuminae files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. It's about these people living on a giant space ship that gets infected with a zombie like virus. It's told through text messages, emails, posters, AI chat logs and more. I recommend the audio book for this serise as it turns the book into a movie with special effects and a full voice cast

Anthony Horowitz does a brilliant job with inserting himself into his books, but they are far more cosy mystery than thriller. And they're' VERY funny.

btw: I got a couple of steamer/strainers the other day so now whenever I do something like broccoli or asparagus I place one of them in a few inches of water in a large pot, then put a lid on it and steam for five minutes or so. So much better than boiling.

For Murder in the Family I think you definitely need to have the audiobook to go along with the physical book. It makes it more interesting and easier to get through. It has a full cast too.

I just finished The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels which was all mixed media. The story was OK but the format was really engaging and made the book fly by!

What you said about the two confusing names, made me think of my English final where one of the characters was called by their official name, rather than nickname, that they really had only been called once for most of the play. I had to fake who the teacher was talking about, LOL!

Mixed media can be really hit or miss, I couldn't get on with ones like The Mysterious Case of the Appleton Angles

Please try ' The anatomy of desire and 'With a kiss we die' by L. R. Dorn. Both have a compelling story peppered with mixed media stuff. The former is written in docu-series style and the latter in podcast style. And the bonus is that, the audiobook is full cast for both books. Would love to see your opinion on these books❤

I recently read Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie which, I think, is classified as Horror? But it's about a ghost hunting show and is told entirely through video transcriptions, journal entries, emails, and text messages. I really enjoyed it and would love to find more things like that.

I loved the vibe of The Heiress. Solid 4 stars for me. Sort of Evelyn Hugo vibes in some way. TBH, I was very surprised to see a 3.91 average on Goodreads because I usually rate somewhat below the average. None of This is True ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you enjoyed the self inserted author trope, you may enjoy the Hawthorne and Horowitz series by Anthony Horowitz. Admittedly I am aware of this British author’s work as I love the Alex Rider series and although I never watched Foyle’s War I am aware of it. Every time he mentioned either of these or other bits in the publishing industry I didn’t know if it was real or just for fiction.

Apparently, books written in diary/letter form are called Epistolary novels not mixed media. Sorry, I had to check it out myself.

I found that listening and reading Murder in the Family worked further be. Reading for the articles and listening infected script parts. I enjoyed it.
