I always enjoy when Sheri joins you, Frank. Also, re the Led Zep comment, "In Through the Out Door" is my favorite LZ album, mainly because John Bonham's drumming on this one is so dominant. But each to his/her own, everyone likes what they like, and that's OK. These kind of videos are awesome.

Always good to see Sheri on the show! Now about the viewer opinions. Wow, some folks seem to enjoy trashing music they don't personally like. Here's how I see it. The great thing about music is there are many different genres and many different artists within each genre because not everyone likes the same thing. A person shouldn't trash an artist or a genre they don't like or don't understand. I listen to a wide variety of styles and there are certainly artists and styles I don't like, but just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Wouldn't music be boring and a waste of time if there were only one style and one band? There is great new music being made today. I love the music I grew up listening to, but I keep finding something new that I enjoy just as much if not more.

That was a goodun! I don't understand why, but it's a true fact: Most people stop taking popular music seriously after their youth. Most of us have fond memories of listening to music in the car, at the beach or a high school dance. Later, radio is background sound and the music collection is frozen. Those who do carry on that interest are "music fans." Most people are much more likely to be anxiously awaiting the next "Star Wars" TV series or "Fast & Furious" movie than a new McCartney or Foo Fighters album unless they are a music fan. I would not be surprised if that was less true in countries outside North America.

Genres are very necessary. A classic Heavy Metal fan that loves Judas Priest may not be able to handle Black Metal like Deathspell Omega, an old school Hip Hop fan might not like Trap or something like Death Grips or Dalek despite them all being types of Hip Hop. Genres and sub-genres create road maps for music and it helps people to know which roads they may want to travel down and which ones lead to musical dead ends.

Sheri is absolutely right. Back in my high school days I basically listened to pop ("Top 40"), hip hop and R & B. Now I listen to that plus hard rock/metal, classic rock, alternative, old school country, blues, folk, and heck even some jazz. But I'm sure Frank you've said "Sheri you're absolutely right" many, many times 😁

The main thing I liked about grunge was it brought rock music back. Before then, New Wave and disco were all over the radio and you just didn't hear very much new rock music. Bands like Aerosmith, KISS, Foreigner, etc. were on the outs, yesterday's news. On the other hand, I never liked Pearl Jam that much. They're okay, but I always liked Stone Temple Pilots a lot more.

Great video Frank and Sherri! It's great that we all have our own tastes. I remember well in high school that Kiss was not highly regarded. You either hated them or loved them. I can certainly understand how younger people born after say 1970 don’t see the Beatles as we who grew up with them did . 60 years later their game changing music gets lost in the vast landscape that came after them. But back then everyone was waiting for their next record including other artists to see what they did. But we revere those records because of what they meant to us. We also only had a couple of radio stations if we were lucky to hear anything new. Very limited.

They apparently are heavy users of Autotune which, while normal these days, I don't appreciate. However, I've seen a lot of people call them derivative and I have to disagree. For the present times they are a thing of their own to a sufficient degree. Diminishing returns and all that.

This was such a fun video! I think sometimes people buy something newly released or re-issued in an attempt to have some sort of 'cool' factor - like as if to say "Look At Me!" (especially in regards to social media posts) but I would agree most buy to reclaim their youth and the associated nostalgia in some way. I'd agree about U2, I think they had maybe one or two songs that I ever liked. I think Queen and The Beatles are overrated but they both had several good songs.

Hey Frank, great video, interesting to hear folk's opinions, we are all different and I don't judge anyone on what they listen to, it's so personal. I never did like The Beatles or the Stones, and always liked Kiss, even The Elder. My tastes have definately changed over the years since highschool which was was nearly 40 years ago.....holy smokes. I've gotten even heavier with bands like Disturbed, Queensryche, Dio, etc. I've started to repurchase new pressings of all of Aerosmith's earlier albums and truly now appreciate the music. we dip our toe in the Jazz scene a bit, and Love Diana Krall, a fellow Canadian and great performer. Cheers from NS and keep on spinning.

As a boomer, I feel I have to stick up for The Beatles a little bit. Folks who did not live through the period when Beatlemania hit don't fully understand their cultural signifigance along with their musical talent. They llifted the world out of a very dark time. Britain was still trying to recover from WWII and America had just seen a president assinated. They brought joy and lifted sprits and brought confidence back. The also wrote some of the most covered songs in the history of music, Yesterday, Somthing, Let It Be, etc. Listen to the second side of Abbey Road and tell me that they are over rated.

That said, Streaming is where I discovered the Swedish Rock band GHOST! I would have never discovered them otherwise, I now own all but 2 of their Records /CD's (Prequelle sold out on LP) so I had to get the CD of said album. ABSOLUTELY loved the episode and the topic. It shows how diverse we are! Without music I would not have a heartbeat. Music is my difibrillator. I agree with many of the comments: the Mic Jaggers and Paul Mccartney’s voices of the music world weren’t very good imo - but they worked with the music. Music, melodies, lyrics will hit is all differently. For me, Garry Moore, Tommy Bolin, Dave Meniketti have “feel” that hits that spot for me… Eddie Van Halen? Not sure many can play the way he can and have the feel, though Akira Takasaki comes to mind. Keep on spinning folks. Be well, take care of each other.

Maybe this opinion will be more controversial, or interesting, than my last one: musicians or bands are not beholden to their fans; by that I mean they should feel free to do what they want with their art. They don't owe anything to their fans, even though quite often we fans think they do. But of course this works both ways: fans don't have to like whatever a band creates, and bands shouldn't have such an expectation of their fans. Ah crap, is that actually controversial? I'm not good at this.

To me, when someone says the Beatles are over rated, it makes them sound a bit silly. There's nothing wrong with not liking the Beatles of course, but if that's that case and you're going to talk about it, then say why. Say you don't care for the lyrics, or the music is too simplistic or whatever. Any legitimate reasoning to express your opinion will do fine....But to say they're over rated is just laughable. Are you really going to tell Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Dave Grohl, Brian Wilson, Billy Joel, Springsteen, Joni MItchell and dozens and dozens of the worlds greatest musicians that they over rated the Beatles?

I think the problem is they’re judging the Beatles based on todays standards. Not in the context of when it came out. A lot of what is standard now was innovative in 1967. Kind of like people who say Laurel and Hardy aren’t funny because they’ve seen the gags a thousand times. Well yah, but they did it first.

The Wall- Poetry & Literature for 15 yr old boys, written by a 40 yr old. 'Album' was a term usurped by vinyl collectors, it originated with 78's, which you stored in a book, just like a photo 'album'. The78 album is hard cover like a book, the pages are like record inner sleeves. An album held 10 records I think? 78's were sold in paper sleeves, like a record inner sleeve. The book was an album of songs (as most 78's were 1-2 songs per side). 78's were not made of vinyl. Vinyl in modern terminology distinguishes from tape, cd, etc- which can all be 'albums'.

Sheri's just the cutest thing! 🙂 As I get older I find that I prefer older music, i.e., Classical, Big Band Swing and Blues. I agree with Ronny Wilson, Grunge was cool for it's time, but I have a hard time listening to it today. Frank, you should totally have a gossip segment. I totally agree with William Huf, Do away with the damned genres and let's just enjoy our music (why does everything have to be labeled in this life? Can't we all just get along and be free)? Shame, shame, Chris Goudy! Queen was an amazing group with amazing songs for their time! Anyone dissing KISS is out of their realm! Kiss took an awesome concept and made it work and it still works today! They had several good albums back in the day! However, I do agree with Dan concerning the Rolling Stones, I never saw the appeal myself. Streaming isn't killing music, it is killing the business of music for artists! WOW chop... I mean, by definition, "Record" is a song (Record of the Year), "Album" is a collection of songs (Album of the Year), and vinyl specifies the format (as opposed to stream, mp3, cd, etc.) All that being said, when I want to buy vinyl, I go to a record store, so there's that.

Throughout the years my taste has changed in high school it was all about rap an hip hop. Now I've gone back in time with a lot of soul and funk. There is a great record label out of Ohio named Colemine records, and their coming out with soul music that sounds retro but modern at the same time and it's really good

@@williamhuff5641 I don't have that one but I do have a lot of Colemine artists records. Like Kelly Finnigan, Monophonics, Say She She, Harlem Gospel Travelers, I have Pale Jay's record on pre order right now, and I've been listening to The Ironsides right now. Agreed though, so much good music coming out of Colemine

What got me into vinyl was when bands put extra tracks on vinyl not on cd and now it's nonexistent...sure as hell isn't nostalgia...I sure as hell am not spending money on shit I listen to before metal!

I have a couple of CDs of the Strokes and I like them. Unfortunately negativity I would rather not deal with. You, Frank should stick with Sheri for things like this about every other month. KEEP ON SPINNING!!!

There's some truth about people who stop listening to new music after high school, but not everyone. I listened to Alternative Rock, Punk & Metal in high school & into my 20's, but by my late 20's i began listening to some Electronic music, in my 30's Orchestrated music & even World music equally as much as the other genres.

Allright this video got me talking. I thought I was taking crazy pills but hearing that other people think the Beatles are overrated is refreshing. As a Queen fan, my son feels THEY are overrated because of the saturation of their music in media as of late. And last but not least I use to think KISS was a glorified garage band!! But when my daughter became a fan I gave them a chance and now I don't hate them. 😅

The best music in the 70s was any rock,or heavy metal music you could listen to in the dark with maybe a blacklight or a Spencer multi colored disco ball. Lite one up and crack open a beer. The Who, Zeppelin, Frampton, Aerosmith.

I would use the term vinyl if the spirit of the conversation warranted it. But I never refer to my record collection as vinyl, I even have some shellac records that are almost 100 years old.

I guess the problem is they don't any better name. Talking record counts in your CD's as well. So does albums, and that leaves out compilations. LP stands for Long Play record, that leaves out your EP's and singles, and CD is actually the modern long play record if you want to be literal, so that's not good either. Vinyl is simple term that counts in all your vinyl records. I think you'll get from context if I'm actually talking about my floor😅

I'm not gonna say bands like the Beatles, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, etc are overrated. But they were so overplayed on local radio that I got sick of hearing them. (Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is an exception)

There are some songs from back in my day that if brought out now, the artist would probably be arrested. Little Peggy March's, I will follow him, sounds like a stalker song. loved it back then.

Being labeled as overrated is the result of a relentless marketing campaign. Madonna comes to mind; there to tease but never to please. She can't sing very well, but she is everywhere.
