We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and the buiness/work related side of our life can be found on our secondary channel "Josh and Erin- The After Show". Here you will see us renovating our Cafe, opening/operating the Cafe with goods from our farm, building/furnishing/running our short term rentals, finding/operating our other real estate investments and more.

Josh/Erin, today on our trip from PA to NC(home), the wife and I stopped at the Wild Roots Cafe for breakfast and the food was delicious, I had the breakfast burrito and I was blown away. The wife had egg/bacon Sammy and she loved it. Also we had some of the peanut butter sea salt cookies and they were delicious too. The girl that brought our food outside even gave a piece of bacon to our dog 😁. Great place and wish you all the success, take care.

Erin, I have said it before, but your cinematography is so awesome. I love the story that your filming tells while having the interactions and narrative make it that much better. You two are awesome partners in that build. I am amazed at how you are able to move those 2 X 12's so well on such precarious platforms.

After all the years we've been watching you, you're still the inspiration we need to get the jobs done on our homestead. You were one of the reasons we decided to take the chance (even at our ages) to pull up stakes, move and build our own home on a nice piece of property. It's just the two of us old farts doing almost all the work (we had a little help from our Amish friends here), and we're weeks away from wrapping up all of the little details on the home build (we've got to, the final inspection will be due before August) and now we've got all the other fun stuff ahead of us. We've been building all of our own furniture and making everything we can ourselves. But for our 30 acres of forest, we'll have to start thinking about purchasing some heavier equipment. Anyway, thanks for giving us the gumption to get up and do it all. Seeing what you accomplished so far has been a life changer for us too.

Not only by how well you appear to work so harmoniously together in the sea of love that surrounds you, but the beautiful, attractive young couple you present yourselves being together. You definitely were made for one another, defined by anyone's book!

A welding tip from a welder. One man to another. Don’t bounce around back and forth with your welder stick. Start the spark, then drag it while pushing in. Don’t pull back. When you pull back you contaminate your weld with slag. If you drilled the galvanized decking panel 1” with a mag drill type cutter. Then drill one of those self tapping screws through the galvanized decking into the I beem near the 1” hole you just drilled, to keep the decking tight to the I beam. Then weld the rebar straight to the I beam. This way you are not trying to burn through the galvanized panel. I think it would work. Welding galvanized (zinc) can make you really ill. Be careful welding that stuff. Keep your head away from the weld. Your house is looking awesome. I love the design. Great choices throughout.❤

BUT house was not done (thank goodness for us) and they are always building something new so I think we may need to wait for Erin on skillshare for a while. Honestly the biggest safety related things I can say is 1. Get those plastic caps for the top of the rebar so no one accidentally gets impaled, that's pretty cheap insurance, and 2. You really should use safety glasses, also another cheap form of insurance. You can buy them at any hardware store for just a couple dollars. Can't do any of these projects if you can't see

Thanks for the Leon reference. I have to agree with moplum. I work at a steel plant and along with zinc there is hexavalent chrome, nickel, lead, etc. in the galvanizing process. You really don't want to be inhaling the fumes from it while welding. Keep up the awesome job though. Your house is what dreams are made from and I look forward to seeing it complete.
