This show was my first introduction to British accents as a child. I remember sitting there trying to figure out what the heck they were saying. This show was somehow very different from American soap operas, I'm not just talking about the different accents either. It seems to have a very different tone than American soaps. Ah, the joys of growing up with both British and American tv. Coronation Street is still on tv in Canada.

I think you Americans take pride in ‘not understanding’ other countries, because you’re waaaay too important to give a damn about what we’re doing. ‘Oh my God, how can I possibly understand someone who’s not speaking with a generic US accent!?’ People from non-English speaking countries can understand Coronation Street, but not Americans. Pathetic. Go and watch Days of Our Lives, or some other crappy American soap opera; much easier for you to ‘understand’.
