Jennifer, would you encourage Andrew Rodriguez and Joseph Nicolosi to test patients, those that are willing, before they begin therapy, and then at completion by using phallometric testing to determine if a change in sexual orientation has actually occurred? You could definitively prove that in men, sexual orientation can be changed through therapy. But it could also provide evidence that the therapy being provided is not effective, and therefore save a lot of time and money of patients. What do you think?

I think this is a very narrow definition of sexual orientation. I'm not aware of any of the professional organizations defining sexual orientation in this way. It is also intrusive and probably many people would resist doing such a test. However, I will give you this: it does have the advantage of being precise. Precision is potentially helpful in a number of situations, particularly since sexual orientation is becoming a legally protected class. I don't think society would want to create a legally protected class around something that a person could define themselves into or out of, without any objective standards. Very few people have thought this issue through all the way to the end. So, let me ask you this: would a person have to go through this test to claim any of the legal privileges of being gay? For instance, qualifying for a scholarship earmarked for gay students? Marrying a person of the same sex? A couple of guys in the military could just say they are gay so they can get married and qualify for better housing. What do you think?

Religion is a protected class one can define themselves in or out of… People’s religion can be static or change throughout a lifetime but is still protected. And certainly Dr. Sullins claims that LGBTQ community IS a religion. Would you be ok with LGBTQ rights being protected as a religious right?

@@claytonspeed Um, you know that they already are protected as a matter of law and regulation in the US, right?

@@RuthInstitute you said “I don’t think society would create a legally protected class around something a person could define themselves into or out of” Religion is a prime example of society protecting a class which people can define themselves in or out of.

@@RuthInstitute Jennifer, I'm confused why you wouldn't insist on phallometric testing before you would be convinced that sexual orientation can be changed. But anyway, I was just curious, do you think it is possible to be a homosexual but have absolutely no same-sex attractions? And do you think it is possible to be a homosexual, and to exclusively have opposite-sex attractions?
