Burch’s first time hearing ‪@sturgillsimpson‬ What a unique blend of 70’s and 90’s country styles. This is more of what you would consider traditional outlaw country music. We both had a lot of fun listening to Sturgill who is an country music artist from Kentucky. If you enjoy our video please like the video and subscribe to our channel. If you have any suggestions for artists you would like to see us react to, please post it in the comments section.

Can't go wrong with Sturgill. You don't know what genre he'll be in from one album to the next (bluegrass, classic country, hard rock, big band, folk, etc), but the songs are always killers. His appearance on SNL, especially the second song, Call to Arms, is a thing to witness. They tore the roof off that dump.

I can't wait to do more of him. Just read that he is currently having issues with his vocal chords I think the article says. Hope he gets back healthy soon.

What I love most about him is that he sounds about as country as you can get and does that extremely well. Then he goes and records a cover of Nirvana’s “In Bloom” that I like much more than the original. Along side that is a song called “Breakers Roar” that is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. That’s not enough though so then he goes and writes a few songs that sound like really good classic rock and uses them as the soundtrack for a crazy good animated futuristic Samurai movie. Before I can soak that in, damned if he’s not back on his riding mower singing country songs again. It’s exhausting!🔥😎🤘🏻

Good call on most of what you said - He sounds like Waylon and the young hank jr - his guitar playing and some of his cadence and phrasing sound like jerry reed - the meta-personal nature of his lyric content and some of his cadence are straight from david allen Coe --- i was born and raised in the south and raised with every kind of music - i can tell you for sure : sturgill is the real thing

I’m a 70 year old Geezer. Bravo Young One! Due respect JMO you tell Sturgill he’s “country” or that he sounds like anyone else, he’d probably tell you to “screw” yourselves. I saw him open for Jason Isbell about 10 years ago. At an amphitheater, I wasn’t crazy about Jason at the time. So My Dog 🦮 and I took a six pack and sat in the grass at the park across the street. My dog and I both love him! “Smaller venues” Ask & ye shall receive. You do know Sturgill has “retired” for now and I haven’t heard of him sitting in any where. However Sturgill also puts together GREAT bands. There’s a video of he and his killer guitarist Laur Joamets: “Sturgill Broke His G String Blues”. Also their performance on Letterman. Advice- travel down the rabbit hole chronologically starting with Sunday Valley. After “The Ballad Of Dood & Juanita”finish with “Call To Arms” on Saturday Night Live.

I’m guessing he reminds you of David Allan Coe because of the way he phrases his vowels. Johnny Paycheck did that a lot as well, and reportedly taught the technique to George Jones when he was Possum’s bassist.

I discovered him through my friend recommending the Netflix show "Sound and Fury" it is an animated music video for his album. The songs tell a story, and each song is a piece. The story is not told in order, and the final battle is in 3 songs and the final fight is after the credits. I feel in love with him after that and I am obsessed with the whole thing on repeat, and most of my music is late 80s and 90s metal. You should consider doing a long reaction to that anime.

I would love for y’all to react to Justin Townes Earle, the son of legendary country singer/songwriter Steve Earle. Justin was a truly amazing artist, after a decade of sobriety he fell off the wagon during covid in 2020 and got some shit that had fentanyl in it and he passed away. Lone Pine Hill kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jqdoZ7xjqc2dfoE.html And Harlem River Blues kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7J8pKl3nZ-5pIk.html That clip is from a Letterman episode and has a young still baby faced Jason Isbell on guitar. Also Charles Wesley Godwin, Seneca Creek, The Last Bite, Hardwood Floors Roger Alan Wade, Chillicothe Rain

@@flickeringboxofficial not only do I love Justin’s music it makes me happy to introduce new people to it to keep his memory and talent alive. There was a Justin Townes Earle tribute concert featuring Steve Earle & The Dukes and special guests: Shooter Jennings, Bonnie Whitmore, Amanda Shires, Willy and Cody Braun, Buddy Miller, Ben Nichols (Lucero), Dustin Welch, Elizabeth Cook, Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Joe Pug, Jon Langford, Lilly Hiatt, Scotty Melton, Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart that happened earlier this year at The Ryman. I truly don’t think if I was in Steve’s shoes I could have played my child’s songs like he did.

I built up a tolerance to country music after spending 9 months in Texas back in the '90s, but it was never really in my wheelhouse. That said...as a fellow "reformed"(?) metal head, you need to check out a more recent track by Sturgill Simpson called "Sing Along". Incredible blend of genres.
