I don't care how overwhelmed the mom of 9 is. The older kids SHOULD NOT lose their childhood to being mini parents for the little ones. That's cruel.
@amandab8433

Parentification is what it's called. I Homeschooled (secular) my children, and there were several families in our group who had 10-21 children. They all belonged to the same church. The oldest were given charge of a young sibling/siblings who they had to "help" look after. DAILY! I knew the families well on twenty years, and got to see the outcome and the toll it took on the children. It was quite sad to see them not given the opportunity to be children themselves. The girls were partnered off with "suitable" males in the church starting when they were 16. To be married off once they reached legal age, only to complete the same cycle that they were born into. It was all completely legal, so no amount of calling CPS did anything. 😥

Yeah I agree, find it absolutely ridiculous that parents CHOOSE to have children but expect others to raise them. Don't fall pregnant if you're not prepared to actually parent every, single one of them by yourself.

I can’t believe the psychologists talk to the mom and the two oldest kids as if they are ALL adults. Instead of talking to the mom and making HER tell her son what to do. Supernanny would have set the mom of 9 STRAIGHT right away. Why have 9 kids and then not really parent them? Yes, they are fed and loved, but no rules or structure. It’s more like she treats them like friends.

Julie is not a mom . She is acting like she is on vacation. Jade , Summer and Cameron do more than she does. Cameron was not shown the proper way but was scolded. He does not have ADHD. Anger issues and too much responsibility. They need to be kids . Jade will not leave because she knows her mom would be lost. They need to pay more attention to the poor baby.

Cameron shouldn’t have to act like the dad of the house, he’s only 14, he’s a kid himself. He and jayde had to grow up too fast. Even though he was extremely rough with sonny, I’m sure that was done to him as well and the mother probably did or if she didnt, did nothing to correct it being done to him. As regards to his behaviour with cheekiness, when you grow up in a place like he has, and I have that’s normal and I’m not saying it’s right but it’s normal.

When she said the oldest 4 have nothing to do with their dads and "that was their choice" I can't help wonder if that's another example of her unstructured, undisciplined approach to life. If she's been to Family Court in most cases there's recommendations that children spend some regular time with the non custodial parent as well as compulsory financial support imposed on the dads. If she'd put in more effort in this issue maybe the household wouldn't always be so full and the parentification of the older girl could've been lessened.
@altariia

I will never understand people who blame mothers for fathers that don't show up. If the dad wanted to be there he would be, especially since the children are older. It's not the mother's responsibility to make it work for the father. Ridiculous.

Nine kids? In this day and age? I’ve been an ECE teacher for over 20 years, I love the techniques the Dr. uses. Sadly, when a parent or parents decide to have more kids they can’t deal with, the oldest kids become the parents to their siblings. The oldest don’t get to be kids. And the parents or parents continue procreating knowing they have live in childcare, which are their first born. Sorry for the run on sentences.

these children are very comradely and genuinely look out for each other, there's nothing wrong with this. They'll make better parents themselves by having the experience of this large family and having to share responsibility. Surprising for a family with 9 offspring and children truly seem left to run amuck that the individual children are not as unruly as expected. Obviously by their response to rules about the kitchen or being more respectful of the property we see they are not accustomed to being denied much. Cameron immediately was back out on that swing after being told a short while previously to not be. Cameron, the oldest could watch his mouth and his Mother could perhaps attempt to correct the swearing and inappropriate talk. After Laverne explained the structure of the day he stormed back into the living area and called her some nasty names to the empty room. He's very rude and has a sense of entitlement that makes him appear boorish and lazy. His refusal to meet with the Tutor being fine and dandy with his Mom shows she is not expecting much from him. I am aware of the ADHD. He bullies his younger siblings when asked for assistance with younger children. Thank the good lord our psychologist hostesses intervened. Mom appears defensive to me. Any misdeeds brought up by Elizabeth and Laverne, she immediately defends the children. And their noses jerked when any corrections in parenting are requested. MOM, daughter and son, all three sat on that sofa with pissy looks on their faces when once again Elizabeth and Laverne had to intercept at the end of today's show. Cameron insults them as soon as the ladies leave the room and I didn't hear him corrected for that display either. How does one feed, house and cloth nine children on her own? I apologize for the long rant but the older family members really irked me today. I cannot complain today's episode was boring.

I am going to have to apologize right up front but how did this relatively young woman end up with nine children and on her own? Was she never educated on birth control? And don't think outside spectators don't have the right to criticize this mom. She has gone for outside government help & is on this TV show which leaves her open for criticism. I have no respect for this mother. If she had no education on birth control (which obviously was the case), did it ever cross her mind to keep her legs clamped together? Cheez!! I also have plenty of thoughts about Cameron but I'll leave it at I'm glad I'm not in charge of "helping" him

@@robincenter382 She probably was educated on birth control but was so selfish that she didn’t care that her children would not have a relationship with there fathers. 1 maybe 2 children can be a result of a lack of education on birth control but after that you can’t use that excuse anymore. It would be interesting to know how many of the dads pay child support.

THANK GOODNESS THIS EPISODE WENT BACK TO THE OLD FORMAT!!!! Cameron’s doesn’t have ADHD it’s called being defiant, disrespectful, and rude. Mom said it herself she’s afraid to give him consequences because it might set him off. She’s scared of him and just doesn’t want to deal with it, so he does what he wants when he wants. The end of the episode showed that. He believes he is the father of the household and mom lets him get away with it. She’s too lazy to parent. The mom and older daughter seem like they don’t even want to hear what the Drs are saying. They actually appear to be offended. Sadly, this family will not receive the help that is being offered and things will continue as usual.

I also parented 24 special needs children, while working (journalist, etc) ALLOWING LEADERSHIP AMONG SIBLINGS requires instinct and supervision, it is not ok for a parent to ignore their responsibilities. This show is useless if it doesnt lead to social services intervention (i.e. Cameron perhaps going into care, to allow him to be PARENTED, taught how to interact appropriately, etc). I had as many as 9 children at one time, but despite work, etc... never abdicated my role. My children felt loved and often followed me around from room to room, always came together for group conversation AS I PREPARED MEALS, and most had housework, kitchen and meal clean up assignments. This exercise was CHAOS, AND NO ONE (except the mom with the sleeping issues toddler) was learning anything... PERHAPS THERE IS A PART 2 WHERE "CHANGE" is incorporated...

The language he uses i would wash his mouth out with soap. 9 kids isn’t very smart when you don’t have a husband. I’m a bit old fashion but it’s ridiculous. How does she support nine children. Taxpayers probably do.

I just can’t understand why nobody believes in birth control? These parents haven’t said they have religious reasons to not use birth control, but a single mom of 9 kids???

What l hate about this show is the negative comments the Parents have come on to better their parenting skills. We should encourage not discourage. Saying all that kids should drink water.

You are right in theory. Many viewers question the mother with nine children's motivation. A holiday was mentioned as this mom's expectation and she did not welcome suggestions from her psychologist hosts. Their guidance seemed to be brushed off without consideration. Am I mistaken? Perhaps they are hoping for their own TV Show - 9 Kids & Counting.

There are other places to have private time with a partner than your bed. How long are they babies? Separation at this age is so sad. They just want safety, and to be cuddled. What other mammals put their babies to sleep in separate spaces?

After my divorce from my children's father my 3 year old had separation anxiety. I kept him in my bed for years after. Once he got to a stage where he was kicking me in his sleep I put him in his own bed beside me where I could hold his hand till he falls asleep. Maybe that was not the best way of doing things but my intend was to comfort him and I felt more safe with him by my side. Nothing felt unbalanced for me back then.
