I started using hand sanitizer on any animal injury I get. It hurts worse than any alcohol or peroxide, and you have to rub it into the wound but I have never gotten an infection once I started using it. It was a sudden reaction one day when my cat got me real good on a vein, and I panicked and it was the first thing I saw so I used it. Like I said, you have to rub it into it, pull the sides of the wound to get the sanitizer actually inside the wound and not just topically. And just grit your teeth and breathe through it. Those rooster spurs are as nasty as cat claws. I started cutting my roosters spurs because I had one attack me and I was like nope! Y’all aren’t doing that ever again. I’m so glad you’re better! And I’m glad you went and got it taken care of because it was clearing causing issues that could have gotten wayyyyy worse. ❤prayers girl!

For anyone making fun of this you have never been stabbed by a rooster... Their talon is incredible and it stings like nothing else... We don't take this lightly with our roos.. There are plenty of good roosters.. Nothing but the stock pot for a roo like that....

Or chunks of flesh torn off down to the muscle from a freaking evil rooster... Happened to my mom. It was awful. He was quickly sent to another person's house who ended up eating him. eff that bull crap.

My daughter got it in the ankle once and she said it was incredibly painful. We now have her rooster because she got rid of her chickens. I don’t go in the run without tall boots and always have something to hold between me and the devil rooster. Usually the bucket I use to clean the coop. I keep telling her he’s gonna end up in a stock pot if he doesn’t stop!

Back in 1955, (I was 4 years old) we were visiting the Family Farm, in Ohio. A rooster flew up into my face! Scared me to death, but only got a small scratch on my arm. That night my Great Grandmother cooked him for dinner!

I am a Country girl and had chickens and Turkeys for several years. I was never attacked and am thankful. I never noticed how huge and long those spurs are,. Those spurs can easily cause blood poison. Glad you got help and are doing better.

it hurts so bad..... I have been thinking since I started watching, that sweet girl needs some boots for when she is out with animals or in the garden. Im glad it's healing, it could have been a very nasty infection if you would have continued to wait. Take care.

I saw on another homestead video that the owners cut off the spurs. Something to think about doing, so you don't get attacked anymore. That looked so painful. Glad you're doing better.

4” angle grinder with standard grinding wheel. Grind down 1/8” at a time. I stop at 3/8” stubs. No blood because the wheel cauterizes it.

My partner was attacked by our rooster a couple of weeks ago, spurring five deep wounds all around the knee. Urgent care next day due to red, swollen & extremely painful and difficult to walk. NP said cellulitis already starting. Basically same treatment protocol. Strange thing, though, NP said this was the 2nd rooster attack that week! Oh, the rooster was relocated and replaced by a younger one!

Sorry Chrissy you experienced this. I know what it's like to be bitten. My Cat was attacked by 2 dogs. I intervined to help my cat, and when I did that my cat latched on my arm with his mouth and wouldn't let go, he was in shock. He would not release my arm until someone came to my rescue. I wasn't mad at Tux but my arm was hurting so bad. I rinsed it squeesing my arm to bleed and then peroxide. My conscience told me to go to emergency. The emergency didn't give me a Tetnis shot but Moxicillin. I was good within a week. Take care on that farm. You might want to invest in some kind of leg and shoe armor for more protection.....lol So glad your doing good. Take care girl!

I agree with so many in the comments, aggressive roosters are best in the stock pot. For what rooster cost you at the ER, pharmacy and follow up care you could have bought more than one replacement.

I feel your pain and know exactly what you’re going through. My copper maran rooster got me today too. He’s mean and I’m going to have to separate him. He’s got me too many times and it hurts bad. I hope you heal up soon.
