Thank you for sharing. It's too bad Ronnie Truitt wasnt alive for this reunion. He was my principal at Jersey Village High School near Houston TX. He passed away a year after I graduated. He was a very nice man and well respected by the teachers and students. He was modest and never let on that he was on this team.

Thanks for mentioning Ronnie Truitt. He was a Head Coach at Cy Fair High School. He won a big school state championship in 1972. Taking down Houston Wheatley!

Cutter was my HS counselor. We always talked about his ring when I was in his office to schedule classes.

Those players unsuccessfully fought against the Indiana High School Athletic Association having separating schools by divisions based on size. Back then all the schools faced each other.

rockvilleraven that's when the state championship actually meant something. It was always cool to see a small school play a big school. Now it's like giving trophies to so many teams they don't get the recognition anymore.

ReviewsTechNow there used to be one, now there's *four*. Teams are getting less recognition because there is less connection between the school and the community than there was 70yrs ago. There's also a lot more entertainment options in rural Indiana. When my high school is gone at the end of the year I have no reason to ever watch a game again. Look at how many schools have been closed since 1954, I'm not the only one.

So a little school plays big schools in Indiana? Or has that changed. Where did Larry Bird play?

The little schools use to play the big schools in indiana. I think in 1982 they changed the rules. Now small schools do not play the big schools so they will always hold the record as smallest school to win state championship in Indiana high school basketball.

Bird played at Springs Valley. His team had some success his Jr year and won sectionals his Sr year. Apparently they had a guy who couldn't hit free throws and the other teams knew it.
