Glad to see another Real Swing golf video. Definitely worth the wait. Beginning with last year's golf season my swing thoughts changed to "Swing clubhead freely, fluidly, and fast" and "Strike ball with swinging clubhead". I am hitting the ball much straighter than I have in the past. Thank you for all of your videos.

GREAT video! Never saw your videos until today. I've been studying the effects of physic as related to golf. I found the club drops faster from the top if I DON'T try to make it drop faster....let gravity do the job. Then natural rotational movement "Oddly enough", brought the club naturally to the ball...no thinking. What I also found is my swing impact on the turf moved at least 2 inches close to my body....I found myself moving the ball position closer to me. The first main key is MINIMAL grip pressure. People don't realize grip pressure = arm tension = shoulder tension....all of which actually RUINS and slows an otherwise natural swing. Plus, folks don't realize that they will create far more lag without even trying because the weight of the club along with loose arms pulling, actually makes the wrists remain cocked naturally. I was at the range yesterday and just started swinging, blocking out mechanics, the "I DON'T CARE SWING". I hit a 21 degree hybrid perfectly every time. Funny thing is physics was doing the job instead of "me", I couldn't hit a bad shot. My buddy said on one shot that my swing looked like "Fred Couples" smooth movement. Fred Couple's? Good enough for me! (174 yd par 3, 5 feet from the pin). Your teachings run counter to a billion dollar industry that ignore the laws of physics and instead convinces guys into "buying" a swing, and runs counter to the ridiculous, never-ending excessive mechanical tips that only work against physics. If anyone swung a sledge hammer all-day-long, they would learn VERY QUICKLY that they better use the weight of the hammer because otherwise they would be exhausted after 3 minutes.

About 8 years ago I got down to a 9 handicap, in my quest to improve further I began focusing on every body mechanics possible and took some lessons. My game slowly started to deteriorate and I quit 4 years ago out of frustration. My buddy recently said we should start playing golf again this summer so I started looking at instruction videos and stumbled on yours. Wish I had found your videos years ago. Look forward to the release of your new dvd.

What is so sad is that the secret to the golf swing is so obvious. I knew there was something I was missing after hitting tens of thousands of balls and having countless lessons but never ever standing at address sure what was going to happen once my swing started. So often seeing my instructor always hit it well and hit it far with seemingly little effort made me sure there was some magic move that I needed to discover. After a weekend proving this method absolutely works (for both long and short game) I am shaking my head at the time and money I have wasted over so many years and how simple it actually really is to hit it well and confidently. Cheers to you for being so honest about the simplicity of the golf swing. I will buy your videos after I post this as a thank you even though I don't think I will actually need them.

Maybe you can’t hit it as far as people tell you you should. Try hitting your iron 7 100 yards (your 6 110, your i3 150 yards, your driver 180 yards). A 12 year old kid can reach those distances. You ‘ll go around (free, fluid and fast, relaxed, rithmic and reflective) under 90 and if you can put under 80.

Hi Ron, you are the man! Since I started using your principles I am playing the best golf of my life. More importantly I so enjoy it now. That ‘joy of life’ swing you teach is glorious! Imagine trying to teach your children to tie shoe laces by instructing them on which body parts to move and when. And yet we all fell for it where the golf swing is concerned. So wish I ‘d found your stuff forty years ago.

Ron, you are one of the instructors I've tried in the last 3 years. Unfortunately I didn't stay with you. In the last year I've wavered between "the Surge", and a couple others and by pure accident ended up with the Real Swing. With all the physical challenges I have as a senior citizen I can't do the rotational swing. However, if I relax and don't think about it I can play quite well. Thank you for your latest video.

It's all very interesting, I go to the range and I can slice it and draw it on request, hit it well when not addressing the ball with the club, closed stance, open stance, move the ball position around and still make good contact, but it doesn't translate on the course as we do all that with a 7 iron at the range from a mat and you always get another go, hitting a 5 iron approach from 170yds from a sloping lie, ball below your feet into a left to right wind to a protected green is a whole different kettle of fish. I do agree with what you say about swinging the club and leaving the technical stuff alone until you can do that, however golf is hard no matter what.

Ditched months of mechanics today and played using your ideas - worked hard on not working hard [at it]. I'm a 10 Hdcp'r BTW. Had a 9-hole stretch of the best shots I've EVER had today. Several Wow moments today: I've hit many, what I thought were, really good shots before, but these strikes were...different. With this "Getting outta my own way" I realized: the clubhead was accelerating through the ball instead of decelerating (I could feel the difference for the first time, as I've consistently seen the latter on video, to my constant frustration). An no, for those of you reading this, I didn't suddenly go from a 225 drive to a 300 yard drive. While there was some distance improvement, it was more of a 'stronger' ball flight feeling. On several shots (Driver, long iron) I found myself just standing there after the ball left, gazing at the trajectory, like I was watching a movie, in slow motion, of someone ELSE swinging a club. Odd, but cool. To me your ideas are the 'glue' that holds it all together (I intuited this before in the context of Tempo/Timing but wasn't able to feel it). Will need to re-program my brain, and my attitude, but looking forward to it. And yes, many people don't want to work at it, they want to buy a golf game (over-engineered hunks of steel and titanium for instance). PS: I bought your e-book and found it well produced and beneficial. I really hope you are successful because this stuff is "it"

You are 100 percent correct about so called PGA professional teachers. Just on reviewing on you tube their take on the grip and the hinging of the hands; they haven't a clue of what they are talking about. Hinge the hands this way? What the heck did I just see and hear? When we are told to hinge the hands we do it; and a doomed to bad golf for years. Just say yes or no if you know what I am talking about. At 71 years old and after looking at Austin Matin swing the club and they revealing in one sentence how his swung it sending a 500 yards; I finally figured one particular exercise that I do as a warm up with out a club in hand. It's easy and it works. Finally at 71; I taught myself how to swing the golf club. Out of respect for you I will keep this secret move to myself. But to test my belief out I approached a young worker at Planet Fitness and ask him if he ever played golf or have interest to play golf. He said no; not really. I let him know I was not a PGA certified teacher. I then ask him if he would give me 1 hour of his time to learn how to swing a golf club. He said absolutely. I then said great and told him I would give him free additional lessons if he request it. Best deal he and I ever made and we will be video taping the experiment this spring. Can't wait to do it. Cheers!

since high school, I've always had this feeling golf should be more instinctual. I shouldn't have to remember a bunch of trivial things to do to swing a club, something that in reality is simple. I wasn't particularly good then though, and after years of practicing, lessons and watching KZfaq training videos I'm: no better than I was back then. You've put into words what I've always suspected, and next trip to range I'm going to try it.

Great listening to your thoughts Ron. Your honest approach may not be 'politically correct' in the golfing world but your thoughts are so 'on the money'. I've been studying "The Inner Game of Golf' by Tim Gallwey and your ideas I believe are totally in synch with Gallweys, except you are also a PGA Pro' and understand the technical aspects of the swing far better than TG, as he freely admits. It's a pity you didn't get the Golf Channel position. (Maybe they're not ready for you yet).

If you never make great improvements, if you believe them when they say "this is the most difficult game in the world but I can help you get better" why should they change? @LearnTheRealSwing 5 жыл бұрын
You're right about the 'old paradigm' instruction locking people up. Speaking of Bobby Jones, here's a very wise observation on his part: "Apart from the intention to deliver the blow [the striking skill] in a proper way, there is nothing more important to the golf swing than that it should have the qualities of smoothness and rhythm [the swinging skill], and I can conceive of no reason why it should not possess both these qualities so long as it is not interfered with by the conscious effort to pass by rote through a series of prescribed positions." - Bobby Jones "...the conscious effort to pass by rote through a series of prescribed positions." That describes the 'old paradigm' of confusing, body-focused golf instruction to a T.

I'm sure some of the monstrosities built within the last 20 years haven't helped either. Courses over 7k yds, with huge bunkers and super fast greens. The average golfer hits the ball about 230 yds off the tee...and if healthy, strong and a good athlete...260 is about the max for 98%. Golf is hard....but it's also fun. We need some courses that meet people in the middle...that would help IMO. Thanks for the vid...great input.

great video Ron ! About not wanting to give away free content: its understandable but you are competing with instructors all over the world now who are. Pre-internet, the teacher (any subject matter) was a source of information but now everything is out there for free and the teacher's role is to provide context to that information. Beginners start with too much knowledge these days. The modern model seems to be give away everything to create an internet following and promote your inperson lessons and clinics. Maybe you've considered that, but think about it if you haven't. You have the right idea, golf is a hand eye coordination sport. Its only a matter of time before someone else gives it away and takes credit for your idea and teaching methods.

Hi Ron -- I took some lessons from you by Skype link a couple years ago, and they are very helpful. I recommend your method to anyone and would tell people it's a good investment to get personal instruction beyond the KZfaq content. I just want to make a comment about your method and your comments about paradigms, etc. I have been interested in how learning occurs for most of my adult life. I wrote a thesis on it in college, and did animal experiments as part of the project. I can't say I am an expert in how people learn, and I'm not sure anyone has figured out a surefire way to teach motor skills. Many things work, but to different degrees in different people. While I think it is undeniable that there is no mechanically perfect golf swing, I think it only takes one look at the modern pro tours to support the idea that there are desirable and advantageous swing mechanics, beyond simple rhythm, timing, freedom, etc. I agree that no series of prescribed mechanical "positions" will produce effective results without freedom and rhythm, and I further agree that many so-called mechanical fundamentals in golf are not really fundamental, but are fashionable trends which change with the times. And for an adult trying to learn to hit decent shots that get us around a golf course, I've never come across any method that's close to as good as yours. But.....I think it is possible for people to learn to be better at golf by improving their positions and mechanics. A very successful Chinese junior player years ago apparently learned golf by mimicking the positions he saw in the Tiger Woods video game. People can learn things many different ways. What I MOST agree with about your comments on paradigm is that a critical element in learning to hit good golf shots (or ballroom dance, or play pool, or shoot skeet, or whatever) is __Proper Focus Of Attention_. I think this is the most important thing of all. Too many golfers focus on irrelevant things, simply because they heard or read it somewhere, often denying "data" that they see before their own eyes. Whatever you are trying to do, you have to believe in it and do it, and then allow YOURSELF to learn by reflecting on the feelings created and the results obtained. We can be given guidance by teachers, but to really learn a motor skill, you have to focus your attention in a way that allow your brain to figure out what is successful. OK way too much commentary here. Anyway thanks again, it is nice to see you on KZfaq again, and I hope life is treating you well.

Agree with you with everything you assert. However, I wonder just how many people are born with the hand-eye coordination that is necessary to be become proficient at golf? With fairly good mechanics I can get a golfer to hit the ball with their eyes closed. But regardless, when a student (mostly juniors) get the mechanics down, it is the hardest thing to transition them to even think about what you talk about. I look at what you are saying as the 'artistic' side of golf. Only the absolute greatest players are able to become true golf swing artists. Bottom line, I am rethinking the whole order of things that I teach. Thanks!!!

I was an inner game tennis teacher to. Transferring it to golf, wich he did to, i come to the following method. You fill up a cavity back club with a construction kit to make it 20 grams heaviër. Say TOP when you’re at the top of the swing, say hit when you make contact, and you will learn incredibly fast. In the beginning students will say the word hit far too late, because they try too hard. Ass Timothy Gallway teached us. Saying hit at the tight moment is the only thing they have to learn.

Thank you thank you thank you. But what do we hear when we listen to the broadcasts on TV. "Well his hips are moving at least 1 to 1 1/2 inches forward before he hits the ball." I would add a 5 thing to think about. I have to be willing to have it be "my swing." Not Rory's, not Tiger's, Not Brooks, Not Dustin. And that is what keeps the golf industry in business, in my opinion because if the instruction said this is "your swing." Well what fun is that? Everyone now wants to talk about the short backswing of John Rohm. Gotta swing like John. Well Harmon won the Open so now what are you going to do?

I would simply ask if they're willing to spend 4 evenings after work and two half days on the weekend practicing every week, especially inside 60 yards. Unanimous "Nope", my response then you're really far from 'killing" to play like me, them then claiming it's still fun to hack around 95-105. No. No it's not. It is indeed a mighty hike to come and see me from Malaysia and that is likely not feasible. If you have the time and financial resources to make the journey, I won't discourage you from doing so. However, as a more practical option, I am also available for live coaching over the internet. You set up your tablet, smartphone, or laptop somewhere where you can hit balls and connect to wifi so that I can see you swing live in real time via FaceTime or Skype video. Jack , always hovered his club, started doing it because of fairway conditions and just kept doing it. Also, if ball moves. You can't be penalized, unless they changed the rules but i don't think they did.

Yes I have, and it is a great book. He is actually a tennis guy and he taught himself to play decent golf just using the mental focus strategies that he employs in his book the Inner Game of Tennis. Although the mental game is very important and I help my students understand important mental strategies and focus on it in their lessons with me, I haven't done any mental game video for KZfaq yet. I may be doing that in the near future if I can find the time...

So I disagree with position that golf decline is just about difficulty of game. The game has gotten easier than it was due to easier equipment. What has changed is the social conditions. People are social animals, and their actions revolve around social activities and esteem dynamics. They engage in activities where they gain esteem, find friends, interact with people, gather entertainment. Making golf engaging, easy, entertaining, social is key.

Have to say I think this is all a tad disingenuous. No one is saying that swinging a bent stick at a stationary object isn't instinctual to an extent and that filling your head with half a dozen swing thoughts is the best way to proceed, but, in order to hit that stationary object a long way and in a direction that you desire, consistently, you need to understand the mechanics of the golf swing and what has to be done to deliver the clubface to the ball optimally (in terms of your desired outcome). It 's a difficult skill that has to be learned, understood and practised assiduously if you ever want to be any good at it.
@tinafeyalien
@tinafeyalien 5 жыл бұрын
Do you think Tiger understood the mechanics of the golf swing when he was nailing shots at 3 years old on the Mike Douglas show? Have you seen the swings of Bubba, Furyk, Montgomerie, Trevino, even Nicklaus? How dem mechanics? Yes you have to practise, but not mechanics.

@@tinafeyalien It's a bit of both. I come from a basketball background. Sure you can hand someone a ball and tell them to put it in the hole. But after awhile they'll need some instruction on the optimal way to get it there. Where I think golf instruction goes wrong is that it breaks it down into TOO many components.

In 24 years of golfing I never learned how to hit. Traditional lessons, group clinics, oodles of swing gadgets; 100s (1000s?) of Golf Digest swing tips, Natural Golf, Heard Super Swing, Gravity Golf, AJ reveals the truth about golf...never has so much been said for so little benefit. After AJ and his "truth" I got worse than ever! I gave up in 2015. I'm SO HAPPY I did!!!! If it was easy people could practice and do it. They don't. Every public driving range shows how severe the problem is. The people I know who hit well started as *children*. For those like me who took it up in their 30s -- I know dozens who did -- only 2 or 3 learned to strike well. They did it through years of intensive traditional lessons. Only 1 still golfs. Golf is misery for most.

Fidel M Flores Fidel, I began playing golf in 1967. I didn't play at all in 2017 because I was tired of playing poorly. 2008-2016 I paid over $10k for lessons plus greens fees, equipment, training aids, books, etc. I never improved. Not by score. Not by distance. Not by impact. I barely break 100. My goal is to break 90 once, just to say I did. I am considering not returning to the game. If I can find a swing that will get me 225 off the tee and over 150 with any other club, then I am back. Otherwise, I'm done.

Hi Fidel, you are definitely correct that golf can become a misery for most. But there is that "one great shot that brings you back for more!" - that accidental good shot that hooks most back in for more torture... I'm presuming that those once in a blue moon good shots kept you going for a while but eventually even they weren't enough to keep you from quitting the game. It sounds like of the three reasons most cite for recreational golf's current lack of growth and a steady exodus of players like yourself leaving the game -- time, expense, difficulty in learning the game -- time and/or expense didn't play much of a role in your decision: Was it primarily your difficultly in finding any degree of consistency or skill development that lead you to quit? I say, "Hey, why not try one more method, the Real Swing Golf Method®?" Eddison said he just kept eliminating the ways that didn't work to invent the lightbulb so consider all those other attempts as one more step of eliminating all the ways that don't work for you. Here is my offer: Have a live, over the internet lesson with me for an hour to two hours. No charge and no obligation to take more lessons. I have resurrected many a lapsed golfers' games and kept many from quitting out of frustration, as you did. If I can put you on a path that will lead to consistent ball striking skill development and a much higher percentage of those 'good ones that bring you back for more, great! If not, oh well... it was worth a try. What do you say? (Please note that there is just one proviso which I will discuss with you if you agree to do the lesson.)

The golf industry must hate this guy, he’s very wise though, I’ve been a feel golfer my whole life and have hated golf culture of teaching, skipping stones on water as a kid is pretty simple! So golf can be aswell, I’ve probably not focussed on my finish enough tho, sport science backs up ‘finish position’ in any sport movement, so that is definitely correct.

Like most golf professionals/instructors, you have no clue why golf is declining. Time is a factor. It is not that people play too slow. That is true because they see how long professionals take and they want to emulate them. But the issue is really with the courses as they try to push more people through. They send out people to watch and push golfers along no matter how fast they are playing, sometimes causing arguments. Cost IS an issue as equipment and greens fees have risen significantly over the last 20 years. Therefore people do not play as much. Difficulty does not just involve learning the game. The courses being built today are way to difficult for most people. They are built that way because supposedly the equipment is that much better making older courses obsolete. So, the bottom line is that there are several factors responsible for the decline of golf. I am sure there are many more that I have not mentioned. As far as your methods go. I have watched several of your videos and truly believe that you are on the right track. Loose is best, but hard to do if tension has been part of anyone's swing over many years.

The other main reason that golf is declining is that it's seen as a stuffy, conservative game in a world that's increasingly informal. I associate it with gin and tonics, dress codes and exclusive clubs with snobbish entry conditions. Plus it's often financially impractical for working class kids, who will be drawn to more accessible sports instead.
