Real Time: How To Make Hinges for Jewelry

In this video I show you how to make a basic three-knuckle hinge for jewelry. This is only one method of creating hinges and if you'd like to see others, I recommend the book by Charles Lewton-Brain called "Hinges and Hinge-Based Catches for Jewelers and Goldsmiths."
Supplies you'll need:
Torch
Flux
Solder
Solder Pick
Jeweler's Saw
Bur Lube
Hand Files
Chasing Hammer
Bead Reamer
Brass Sheet/Bar - 3 pieces (2.4mm thick) this can be purchased at your local hardware store if you don't have it.
Brass Tubing - 2 pieces (2.4mm outside diameter & 2.0mm outside diameter)

So smart to take off the handle of the tube cutting tool. I always found the handle unwieldy.

Where did you purchase that bench vice you used to hold the brass plate? I enjoyed watching your video because you put the human touch in- slips, adjustments etc.- all part of the trade right? :)

I bought the stone setter’s Benchmate kit from GRS Tools. It’s probably one of the most often used tools on my bench. I love it because it keeps my hands free and is well worth the investment if you’ll be setting stones!

I love your videos! I’m going to try! But please though we love the sound of tools, not the repetitive music. I don’t know why everybody puts their choice of music on when it may not be the viewers choice. Please, please just let us hear your voice and the tools or edit.
