This DR Brush Mower can really mow some thick field grass. I'm just basically out having fun with it here.

Those are great mowers. I've used several models and earned money for mowing ditches and fields that were overgrown.

The great part about using a mower like this is that there is no concern that you're gonna break the mower.

That seems to work pretty well. Although I do like the older style DR Field & Brush Mower's with their older style of brush deck with the side discharge feature and having much bigger engines.

I don't think DR sells mowers with flails. I would like to see some company make a mower with 2 rows of counter-rotating flails to see what the cut quality looks like.
@Boodieman72

It doesn't use flails.

That seems to be a prime candidate for a Kavli blade. If it were mine, I'd fill the rear tires with Rim Gard for added traction against some of the thicker brush or grass areas where the tires started slipping. Probably a set of chains too. Those snow hog tires are very common up here on 2 stage snow blowers, but they need weight and chains t really work their best. For 16 x 6..50 - 8 tires. RG will probably add close to 20 lbs per side.

Can’t beat the Kavli blades!!
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt Жыл бұрын
That would be a good idea. The transmission is extremely strong and can handle a lot more. It does need more weight at the tires. And yes, these tires have a pretty aggressive pattern, but not aggressive enough!

Hey Mike I’m gonna be moving pretty soon out in the country I bought some land I’m gonna build a new house in the area of the land that I bought has got a tremendous amount of weeds by watching this video I’m going to look at a DR equipment but I definitely want to get something like you’ve got there but Go as big as I can in terms of width and the engine options
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt Жыл бұрын
They have some with wider widths and much higher horsepower. The one I'm using is actually their smallest one. 26" and 10.5 horsepower. But you can see bigger ones here - www.drpower.com/power-equipment/field-brush-mowers

Honestly, I’d love to try DR, but I fear that most major equipment service centers would tell you they won’t work on it despite it having a mainstream engine. Does anyone have feedback on this?

Yea, you know, if you watch the Tractor Time with Tim channel, it really seems like their flail mower attachment works better than their tough cut deck. Guys? Am I wrong? Did you see him using that?

I know its not a finish mower but how short does it cut ? ( I heard around 3.5 inches ) how well does it mulch the grass compared to a regular lawn mower with a mulching blade ? we bought a 5 acre place that is mostly tall field grass and weeds. a tractor with a 5 foot mower deck is not in the budget.
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt 9 ай бұрын
Yes, the deck is fixed at 3.5" and cannot be changed. I don't think it's really trying to mulch the grass. Just knock it down. It is in essence a walk behind bush hog. What you can see it doing in this video is basically what it does everywhere.

Seems a larger cutting deck and more power would help, but it seems to do ok.

Oh yes, of course. A real bush hog would be better. This is just something that the average person can actually put in their garage.

What would be the job rate for something like this? It seems like a large area for a 26”. Taking into account hours, fuel, and whatnot. Plus the DRs aren’t cheap either. Would it be cheaper as an operator to rent a bush hog with a small tractor?
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt Жыл бұрын
Maybe. The idea is for if you have a large property with a few places that you only mow occasionally, you have your own machine. And for someone like me, a lawn service, it's nice to have something that I can take into extreme places without to worrying about breaking it.

That Dr did a pretty good job. Would like to see what your cheetah would do to that field with a set of kavli blades, but I suppose that would be putting too much unnecessary wear and tear on it.

There is one thing that they ought to do with those brush mowers put skids or swivel wheels on the front so they wouldn't catch on the ground where you are mowing it would make it easier to mow on

That thing needs another cylinder. It probably works better in brush and small saplings, but that thick grass really boggs it down.
@Something2LookAt

Indeed. This grass was much harder on it than even 1 inch saplings!

@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt Жыл бұрын
It's their lowest model. It's 26" if I remember, and that's a 10.5 hp Briggs engine. They've got some that are like 20 hp, and it really could use it.
@Andy-From-England

It always amazes me the power of those little engines but think its way the chamber is built to quickly get rid of cut grass.. you ought to make a mower Mike with a V8 engine on top that would be awesome Also tha image stabilisation of that camera on the 9 ft selfie stick is amazing
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt Жыл бұрын
I know right? Look at the way the camera is wobbling and bouncing around on the stick, yet the capture is relatively smooth. And I think the mowing capability is increased by the size of the pulley on top of the deck. It's a really big diameter. Which of course would reduce blade tip speed, but increase torque.

are you gonna come back and hit this with the cheetah after you knock it down with the DR?
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt Жыл бұрын
Not this time. I'm leaving it like this. The real bush hog will be coming by pretty soon to mow the whole field and then the whole field will look rough like this. But stay tuned! I filmed a loooooong video with the Cheetah yesterday. It will probably be an hour. A long edit to, so it will be posted next week.

You are asking that machine to do more than what it was designed to do. You are also doing full width cuts instead of the 3/4 width cut that does a much better cleaner easier job. 1/2 width width cuts in that field would have been preferable.

With the Kavli blades on it, yes, the Cheetah would have annihilated this. :) But, if this brush mower had a side chute, it would be more effective. I'll have to look at the deck and see if I can rig a way to open and close one side while still having strong deck rigidity.
