HOW GOOD ARE HYUNDAI'S NEW HYBRID'S??
Today, we're testing out the new i30 Sedan Hybrid and my long-term Hyundai Kona Hybrid to see what is their ACTUAL fuel economy. It's Daddy Matt vs Daddy Jacob, across a variety of different driving conditions - urban, city, highway, performance and more! - to see:
- What is our fuel economy in each car?
- Where do the Hyundai Hybrid systems perform best?
- Who is better in general - Matt or Jacob?

so the manual calculation for fuel usage is 5.2L/100kms for the Kona and 4.55L/100kms for the i30. The i30 trip computer is showing a bit more discrepancy looks like. But great job guys, fun and informative at the same time 👍👍

@@30harbakshsingh45 Morgan Stanley reported on Wednesday that BYD launched its fifth-generation DM hybrid technology in the Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i, each priced below 100,000 yuan, aiming to increase its market share in China......in Australia that's like 21k Aussie dollars.

The Kona, while not as efficient, is a brand new model that gets the newer infotainment OS and wireless carplay. It also has an arguably nicer and quieter interior. Still, it's great to see how efficient Hyundai hybrids are with a normal transmission. They can surprisingly keep up with the fuel economy of Toyota and their more efficient CVT. Would love to see real-world testing of the new Tucson and Santa Fe. They use a similar setup too, so would be cool to see the difference.

Why use 2 way radios when you can use the hands free phones connection in the cars. Is it legal to use 2 way radios while driving? I would guess no. Silly to get into trouble seeing as you could use the phone, and there wouldn't be range issues.

Problem is BYD's DMI 5.0 2.9/l real world fuel consumption, with 2000+ km real world range and cheaper (if not similar price if it makes it to Australia) make these cars a total non-starter.

@@RodneyWpeople done the test real life traffic, normal AC, 2400 km till the car stop moving. Anyone questioning BYD’s hybrid is like questioning the capability of Jason Wong’s chips AI adaption.

The sedan is enough for me and most people. People just buy that suv for "ride height" or joining the rest who buy such vehicles, not really for practicality. A VW Golf does what it can do, except for the styling which is relative.

Not so much the ride height as it is the ground clearance. Some places damn near require you to have something >150mm, lest you end up sanding down the underside of your front bumper.

@@tren133 no they won’t cuz till this day mega cities in China don’t give free license plate to plug-in hybrid. Only BEVs enjoy free license plate. Plus if you run Didi. It has to be a BEV.

That’s because they are plug in hybrids, though that are good, most regular hybrids do between 600-1000km on a tank

@@robertbruce2182 The version tested during BYD's launch event had both their fuel door and charge door taped shut, so after the 80 km of pure electric range ran out, the rest of the 2300 plus km were all from the 65 liters of gas in the tank with the car in hybrid mode. That was the crazy thing about the new plug-in hybrids BYD just launched. Furthermore, that 2400 range was done at near highway speeds of 90-100 kph average speed. BYD also did lower speed urban runs with a depleted battery, and were getting consumption rates as low as 2.2L/100km, which is frankly insane.
