The original Navaho Pro was a 1971 only radio and has the trademark of Allied Radio Shack, a merger broken up by the Nixon administration. The FCC complained that the manufacturing sector wasn't making monitoring channel 9 as much of a priority as they wanted, so they responded with radios like the Pro Niner. Only problem is that the FCC needed to get Puerto Rico off channel 9, because the channel was (is) unusable due to the Spanish language chatter. The channel 9 monitor radios were so unpopular that they were only sold for a few years before disappearing. Curiously, the channel 9/19 switch on many modern radios is an anachronism, because far more people have phones than CB radios and will seek aid via 911. The concept of channel 9 as an emergency communication channel is obsolete, and the incessant Puerto Rico shootouts just drives the point home.
