Summary of my workflow to create realistic trees.

We are using first the awesome speedTree to generate the tree. This allow us to export a realistic tree model in no time with sweet textures and more importantly Leaves as particles.
Part of the tutorial is trying to figure out a procedural way to animate the tree (no simulation/dynamics here !) and take advantage of the "leaf particles" to optimize the result and drive the animation.
If you wanna use a tree of your own, maybe bought on internet that doesn't have the "leaves as particle" that's fine I am showing how you can extract the transforms using some VEX scripting. (assuming the leaf shape is a plane...)
Once we are happy with the animation we are making a custom shader with Redshift to import speedTree textures in the easiest way possible.

Im sure now you can revisit the animation problem by using kinefX and mixing ABC, points and the FBX joints as source to rig and animate branches easier

Hi :) I would appreciate tutorial of speedtree with dynamic object collision. When the tree is fall to ground, or something hit the tree branches...etc

Yes. Animating by hand is ok, but it's not working if some wants to add trees in simulations.

Purchased ! thank you for the the lesson. I was curious if you had any tips for realistic growth? I have tested with speedtree but it is not very accurate

Thanks ! I have never tried speedtree growth system so wouldnt be able to help. I have heard of a houdini plugin for vegetation called growInfinite that could potentially help you though ;)

@@AdrienLambertvfx I was actually able to create some amazing growth inside speedtree. But the leafs do “leaf as reference” for exporting animation. I took your tutorial 2.5 and extracting transform but when I copy to points the grids have no orientation / transformation.

Hello Adrien when I import the tree into houdini and create the blasts it works, but when I unpack node the houdini crashes, do you know what could be happening? thanks... (I bought your course, it's great)

Same question, have you found a solution? Using speedtree 8 doesn't crash for some reason

hi ! I just bought your course I'm stuck here, When I try to unpack leaf particles Houdini crashes ..even I tried different versions ..I encounter with "Segmentation fault error" and Houdini closes . Please help me out here,

Hi, is it possible for you to create project based tutorial or tutorial series on procedural systems for absolute beginners who has no experience in Houdini ? with really basic procedural projects....so not only beginners like me could learn Houdini but also learn procedural system in it. Absolutely like your tutorials btw

Some artists alreasy made some course/tutorial about that I think. That's why I was more interested into procedural approach. But will defintely make my own version at some point :)
