For very pale watery mixes it helps me to mix them first, then dry my brush and pick up the paint again. That way the brush itself is not soaking wet and I find the paint is easier to control.

I had a lot of trouble with eye fatigue when I was in grad school, suffering under a mountain of reading assignments. My eye doctor taught me a trick for resting tired eyes when you can't get outside and look at lovely things in the distance ... which I couldn't at that time, since I lived in a crummy apartment in a sketchy neighborhood and studied late into the night. Anyway, with eyes wide open, cup your hands over in such a way that they block all light. Then repeatedly look as far up and down and side to side as you can.

Always amazing how much you can put in a short video! It would also seem common sense, but other than music in the l background, one best benefits by having their full attention on the art, as opposed to multitasking. I cannot watch TV or talk on the phone while painting , but I don't generally believe in multitasking. If one is tired or unwell, perhaps just watching videos or choosing reference pix would be something that could be done.

Great tips. "Don't paint when fatigued" is so true. I learned to stop painting when I start to feel tired. Coming back to it later is more productive and enjoyable!

Great tips Michele. You mentioned that painters should be able to see the tip of their brush as they paint. I would add, turn your paper around so that you can.

Obviously I better not miss a single video. You answer questions that would otherwise plague a novice like myself. I get a lot from a variety of KZfaq watercolor teachers, but it seems to me your background packs a wallop of knowledge in a small punch of a video. I'm more confident and prepared every minute.

Great video, as usual. I think one of the most important points you make is to slow down, then being able to see the tip of your brush, and also being able to see what you are doing with good light and magnification, if needed. I have seen so many people paint much too fast, resulting in sloppy work. I also like to "pull" my brush most of the time, not "push" it, but that is me..... I paint purely for enjoyment.

Thank you Michele. This video fun and helpful as always! I am a beginner, and really spastic when trying to do long (theoretically) smooth, shallow c-curve strokes (think would-be flower stems). A few days ago, I wanted some rectangles for color swatching, so I got out a pencil. Guess what? I can't seem to draw a smooth line even with my trusty old pencil!!! I laughed ruefully. It occurred to me that since I type all day at my day job, I am not really getting any practice re. old-fashioned penmanship. I vowed to use those old analog tools more regularly, hoping that will help nudge my fine motor skills back into gear. In the meantime, Hazzah for rulers and little bits of masking fluid?!! :)

I sometimes use masking tape for horizon lines which can be useful When I am drawing a straight line I always paint it horizontally and use the end point as my guide. One thing that really frustrates me is my vision. Worsening as I am getting older and I can only paint in natural light even with glasses on. Michele I just want to say thank you. I have learnt so much from you

Many thanks Michele. I learned that masking fluid tip the hard way unfortunately. Fortunately I was able to repair the surface enough with watercolor ground so I could save the painting. #2. Aha! Good to know it's just not me going old eyed blind when working close and I then can't seem to see the tip of my brushwork. I'm not tired but my eyes must be tired! Thank you🥰

Excellent video! I have also found that dragging the brush towards me, handle pointing at me, gives me a neater line and better control. I turn the paper around all the time - no idea what to do if I want to paint something really big :)

Very helpful tips, especially seeing the point of the brush and seeing, in good light, what you're doing. One can get wrapped up in painting so much that you do not pay attention to such basics needs until it’s too late. I’ve got two desk lamps I keep moving around for enough light and to reduce shadows. Thanks, Michelle, for these tips.

Great video! All the tips are great. The new one for me, which I probably do instinctively is to use a wrist support to help paint neatly. I just never thought about it..... If I were to choose a second one, it would be to have good lighting. I am a little color blind, in that I just don't see color well, and especially when the lighting is poor. My dad was color blind, as well as one of my kids. Good lighting is my friend when trying to achieve nuances in colors.

Great tips Michele. another thing I find useful in trying to paint a straight line is to focus on where you are going...the end point. It seems to help me paint straighter. However, this does not quite fit with keeping your eye on the tip of the brush, so it may not work for other people. But it cannot hurt to try it if you are having trouble keeping it straight.

As for the problem with the very watery colour, would it help to have an extra water source with a drop of dish soap in it to use extra for this application? For me the most helpful tip today is the one to use the masking fluid as kind of a barrier. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, especially to do it in such a pleasant way.
