That military machete for pilots is also used as a "canopy breaker" to bust out of the wreckage by breaking the plexiglass. Like Lars says, not needed for civilian survival use. GREAT channel!

Think about it for a sec :) Even a good Leatherman tool is like that. The pliers are pliers but not as strong as real pliers, the knife is "just" a folder, the srewdrivers are OK but try and screw out a really tough set screw and.. Yes it's still good,useful and handy but not really good at anything :)

So damn tru...i have never had more than 1 or 2 multifunctional things actually be multifunctional or good at shyt. My hennesy hammock is technically multifunctional and actually gets used in those ways and works well...seea to summit pocket shower doubles as an outstanding drysack...think my S.O.G entrancing tool is pretty multifunctional and useful also...but. Thats about it. EVERY other "multifunctional" tool that I have ever owned sits derelict and decaying...long forgotten, why, you may ask. Simply bc its not good at anything.

@It was ME , DIO I hope you are joking :) about drinking your own pee. Those "$urvival" shows also feature such things as a guy swimming under a frozen river . . . These are some of the best ways to creature a self made blunder and die very quickly. I knew a guy who drank his own and even he knew NOT to do it in a survival situation. This will make your body evacuate water and other toxins much faster than usual then, dehydration becomes a serious issue.

It's great that you mentioned not to leave cordage waste behind. Every time I go fishing I fill my pockets with discarded fishing line. It's so easy to just pick up and dispose of properly. What a great little tool .

Ender Z - This is of course quite true but it should be pointed out that it should only be used in a survival situation because the heating process releases the chemicals into the water. Non harmful short term and a worthy survival technique but just felt the point should be made.

The plastic bottle cordage is awesome. I usually did this manually using a razor blade but this is much much easier haha.

This is a really interesting video, and makes a point I'd never considered; due to the fetishisation of the military in pop culture, we always assume that soldiers have the best gear, but in reality, a lot of military gear is for emergency use only. It's like the option of using an emergency parachute or just buying a plane ticket.

Great video! And great tool. Unfortunally (or fortunally, depending on how you look at it), there are very little bottles and litter out in the nature of Sweden. Most of our countrys population is very strong headed about leaving garbage around - even aserbic, as it is.

Yes i know Swedish nature quite well. Like in the rest of Scandinavia you have a good habit of cleaning up :) Anyway on the banks of the bigger lakes it should be possible to find plastic bottles. Maybe not :)

There is almost no place to 'survive' in Sweden - or Europe in general - you just walk another couple of kilometers and buy what you need in a local shop. Or at least ask locals for help, or just dial 112 on your mobile (with good mobile coverage virtually everywhere). So the only 'survival tool' you actually need is a good smartphone and a spare battery or power bank. So you could either just call or - if you prefer - enjoy KZfaq for a nice survival video like this one. === I am thinking: after all may be this is wise of us - Russians - to through the 'survival garbage' everywhere around Russia and not to clean places properly. So a can or a bottle could save a life really ))

Loved the bottle tool, so I told the wife about it. She already knew all about it. Apparently it is well known in the crafting community. People make all sorts of things out of the plastic cordage it makes, from rugs to purses and more. Fascinating little device.

You can use the bottle bottoms for bowls and the bottle uppers for funnels! I have one of these devices that I can clamp to a table for pulling a bunch of cordage! This is an Excellent "Re-Purposing" of what most people see as trash/waste!

A real survival tool is a knife that is easy to sharpen.

It all depends. Generally a person needs other things than just a knife. As example, try to survive here in -30C or -47C with a knife easy to sharpen :) But yes, an easy to sharpen knife is a good start :)

+Survival Russia you might as well carry your entire house with you. If you are talking about one single item that you can take with you. I think a knife is a good choice as a knife could help creating other tools.

A knife is a good start! With it you can cut wood for a fire. If you don't have matches or a magnesium starter, well you're screwed anyway. But if you have matches and no knife, it's harder to make a good fire.

joining items together is one of the most beneficial things to be able to do. Think of the benefits. Any sharp tool can be made longer to keep you further from a clawed animal. You can make walls and roofs by making thin tree limbs Wiiiiiide. Also, traps, splints, dragging things with a yoke instead of you hands. I enjoy reusing trash. We should get out of our wildernesses as fast a we can . So, why not use it when we are there. I HATE SEEING Those grey plastic grocery bags. Those thing kill fish, birds and other small to medium game and non game animals. It makes me sad just thinking about those thing cloying up a small creak or run then causing who knows via the estrogens in the plastic leaching into the water. SORRY I'll stop. I wanted to say You can make rope out of those things. When the trip is over bring them back to your home and recycle them if possible.
