List of expressions: 1) chinwag: to have a chat. "I was having a good old ching wag with this person" 2) full of beans: someone who has a lot of energy. "they are full of beans today" 2) under the weather: when you're feeling sick or low spirits. "I'm feeling a bit under the weather" 3) to be right up your alley: we say this when there's something that would be of interest to you. "I went to a restaurant the other day you'd love it, it's right up your alley". 4) the bee's knees: great, amazing, fantastic. "this channel is the bee's knees" 5) Bob's your uncle: there it is, there your have it, when something is done or completed it. "Bob's your uncle fanny's your aunt" (UK's extension). 6) Pardon my french: when someone is going to curse or had said a swear word. 7) Cheeky: To be mysterious or naughty. 8) Cat got your tongue? : when someone is fairly quiet (for example when you're having a conversation or discussion). 9) Gobsmacked : so surprised that you can't speak. "I'm absolutely gobsmacked". 10) Gutted: extremely disappointed. "I'm gutted" 11) Cream-crackered: to be knackered, exhausted. 12) it's gone pear-shaped: it's gone totally wrong or has failed. 13) Costs a bomb: very expensive (in American English the equivalent expression would be: it costs an arm and a leg) 14) it's a shambles: it means that something is really unorganized. 15) Bagsy= dibs= (in the US would be shotgun when people are walking to a car someone say shotgun it means that the person is going to ride in the front of the passenger seat ) - when you want something first

This is interesting because I'm from the U.S., and I've never heard some of these expressions! "Cream-crackered," "Costs a bomb," and "It's gone pear-shaped" must be common in the UK because I've never heard them here in the U.S. Another reason it's hard to learn English--so many differences between American and British English!

In Argentina we use an expression similar to A cat got your tongue when somebody doesn't speak or not answer a question. The traslation would be El gato te comió la lengua? It's very common. Thanks for teaching English in a funny way

I heard a lot the expression "pardon my French" but I thought it's when someone isn"t sure how to say a word or an expression he says "paron my French" now I got it thank you. You know what's funny, in Quebec Canada as you know people speak french over there, they are speaking in French and when they want to say an expression or like a cote in English they say "en bon français' which literally means "in a good French" and they say it in English, very confusing for a nonQuebecois !

Andrea I hear a lots of different british accent in movies and tv shows, now I got used to your accent and I would like to know which part of the UK are you from so when I hear someone speaks with your accent I will know where he is from, I got used to one of the X factor judges accent and she is from Esses now when I hear someone speaks with the same accent I know they are from Essex, I like to recognise where people are from juste by leastning to their accent, that is the reason I am asking you which part of the UK you are from, and you don't have to answer my question if you don't feel confortable to, thank you.

Just so you know, "Voilà" takes a grave accent on the a and btw, accute accents do not exist on a in French (can't even type it), but then I'll - literally - pardon your French on that one :) About "Cat got your tongue", I don't know either where it comes from, but we have nearly the same one in French (although we don't use it very often, considered a bit childish) : "Tu as donné ta langue au chat ?" (Did you give the cat your tongue?). Well words and expressions going back and forth between French and English is quite documented... But who invented this one?
